    I lost 20 kilos, but also a lot of hair . It's growing back thick now.
    I think it may have been because of the rapid weight loss.

    I only lost 2 inches and 10 lbs and lost half of my hair in keto & excessive 24 hr fasts. I would do 36 hr bone broth fasts. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking. Mentally I felt so amazing. I did blood work at the end of a 36 hr hour fast and all my hormones and thyroid were tanked. My white & red blood cells were flagged low.
    It took so long for them to get back into the normal range. My iodine was flagged low as well.
    This video is gold and Maria you know you’re stuff. Keep putting out your context regardless of the haters. We need you.

      So I lost my cycle for a year. I shut down my pituitary HPA axis. So I was no longer getting GNRH pulses to produce LH, FSH therefore no estrogen and testosterone. All flagged low and forced my body into a perimenopause state. I found a really really good Dr. James O’Hara from Gillett Heath. It’s all via zoom. He put me on Naltrexone to restore my pulses at the pituitary in combination with Estriol (for 1 month) when I got my cycle back after 1 month I discontinued estriol but am still on the naltrexone. naltrexone has been a miracle drug. It’s also covered under insurance. In combination with prescription I can no longer fast. I keep body fat down by doing Maria’s protein sparing modified fasts eating 3 meals a day. I do eat berries and some fruit. If i eat carbs I make sure i am moving my body.

    I was keto most of my 50s and I lost so much hair. I really didn’t think that it was because of keto. I honestly thought that that’s what happens in your 50s. I don’t have that anymore. I am 64 and I haven’t lost hair like that for about 3 to 4 years. And I’m carnivore now so if keto caused my hair to fall out, I should be bald.

    Ok, this is the first time I've heard a low-carb expert specifically explain the "why" of hair loss, & how water/sodium/protein plays a part~ really helpful Maria, thank you for this. Mine has thinned ever so slightly, yet I'm also just a few years into menopause, being 2 yrs post-menses. I know my estrogen & progesterone are low as I've not done any HRT, & am hoping not to actually. I'm not fretting over my own hair at this point, but I know a few people who are.
    *For those who suspect or confirm they have an absorption issue, would you suggest they lead w/hydrochloric acid w/pepsin, or perhaps give the collagen a shot first?
    🎯As always, a wealth of information in a very short 15 minutes~ not that I mind the longer posts, I like them because I'm also a lifelong researcher so I love learning new information. Especially as it pertains to health & wellness.
    Hope Craig is feeling good, or better? Strangely went to sleep last night thinking about how disheartening it can be when you're doing everything right that you know to do, & the body can still surprise you with disorder/imbalance. Woke up thinking about those who inspire- like your husband- in particular when life is kicking their backsides. So important that we keep going because the alternative is completely counter to all we aim for.
    Alright- I'm rambling on again. We are grateful for you both, & pray your efforts continue to be blessed.💓 ~Samantha Whitson

    Thank you so much for doing this video in an easy to understand manner. Other influencers have dismissed trying to explain why hair loss is so prominent in the Keto/Carnivore space. Your explanation hit it out of the park! I'm in year 4 of thinning hair, hopefully the follicles are still alive. I'd like to ramp up my protein intake to see if it'll help however I'm concerned about gluconeogenesis (too much protein turning into sugar). How much grams of protein should be limited in each meal to prevent gluconeogenesis?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Год назад +20

      You really do not have to limit your protein intake. The concept of too much protein turning into sugar is a myth. Chicken is not chocolate cake ;)

    Hair fall control tips that work for me:
    • Use mild shampoo for your hair like liiitlleextra cocconion shampoo.
    • Start with a pre-wash using a natural hair rinse green tea rinse.
    • Section your hair into sections and shampoo section by section: starting with the scalp, then the middle, and finally the ends.
    • Create a good lather with your shampoo thoroughly and massage with your fingers the shampoo into your hair and do the same while rinsing out.
    • Apply warm Cocoonioooon oil and massage it into the scalp and style your hair in a protective way.

Then I read about rosemary oil having same effect as minoxidil. So then I put rosemary oil in my onion juice for awhile. BUT onion juice is really smelly so now I just do rosemary oil in a carrier oil like pumpkin seed oil (or olive, jojoba, castor, any oil you like). Apply in my hair in sections. Let sit one hour and shampoo as usual. I now only apply 1-2 monthly. Most hair growth serums out there always hv rosemary oil as one of its key ingredients. My hair is thicker than before. Hi Maria,
    after reading book "Cure: your fatique" by Morley M. Robbins I found out that anemia which I struggled with my whole life is most likely due to lack of copper not iron I was told my doctors (when I used to see doc) . If we lack copper in diet and the iron is not metabolized even if we have iron in our system. Please read the book because you may be able to help those people who seek help and suspect iron defficiency (and may be copper issue).
    It sounds strange but according to Mr. Robbins (biologist by training) someone can have iron overload and be anemic, and the cause is copper defficiency. Since I started supplementing copper 3 times a day (each dose - 2 mg copper) tabs I feel so much stronger and of course thanks to your calculator I am eating correct amount of proteins I feel like I am 20 years younger and stronger as well which helps to motive myself to resistance workouts at home. I was undereating proteins all my life (eating only 50% of what I am suppose to eat) thank God that I found out about it in my late 50-ties.
    cheers my dear

    I’m 65 so yes I have low estrogen and progesterone. One doctor gave me some bioidentical estrogen cream but she said she was not going to screw with my progesterone. But I thought they had to be balanced? The doctor I see for my diabetes freaked out and told me taking any estrogen after menopause will cause heart attack and stroke. I don’t know what to believe anymore.
    My testosterone is high and I have male pattern baldness. I’m not losing hair anywhere else because there’s hardly any in my brush nor in the shower.
    I am using 5% Rogaine for this male pattern baldness. The Rogaine can barely keep up.
    I do take extra supplements vitamin D3, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and I salt everything to taste. I do have sugar free electrolytes just not the brand you show.
    My iron is normal but ferritin’s are high.
    If meat causes testosterone to raise in men wouldn’t it cause it to raise in women too? This is my theory anyway for my balding.

    Did I miss it? How much zinc should we be taking on a daily basis?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Год назад +2

      Take 30-50mg at breakfast. Please note that as you increase zinc, it can cause nausea so slowly increase. Start with 15mg a day for a week, then double it the next week, until you reach 30mg/day :)

    Interesting video on the effects of keto and carnivore diets on hair health. For anyone experiencing hair loss, I highly recommend DermalMD Hair Growth Serum - it's a natural, effective way to promote hair growth and improve overall hair health. Thanks for sharing this informative video!

    When eat high fat carnivore or eat grain.... I lose weight. The reason is I ate too much fat and carbs, and not enough protein.
    PSMF stopped all hair loss. Now when I shower, I watch the hair loss and up my protein if needed.

      Diarrhea can be caused by many things. Too much or the wrong form of magnesium, too much sodium in a short amount of time, fiber, dairy, eggs (if there is an allergy or intolerance), and a number of health conditions. I suggest my chronic diarrhea supplement plan if you have ruled out such causes as wrong magnesium (should be magnesium glycinate) or diet: keto-adapted.com/product/chronic-diarrhea/
