Great days fishing! I can feel your heart sinking there bud! That's rough. Makes for good viewing though. More drama than coronation street😂. You'll get him again🤜🤛
Thanks Stevo! Awh god the videos lately are full of drama, I’m trying to keep them as raw as possible this year, to show it’s never plain sailing 😂👌🎣 more interaction too because it’s more relatable
Thanks colin! Sometimes I use the 7kg wire leader , and other times I use 20/30lb fleuro, depends on what lures I’m using and if I think there’s pike in the area
When you're out there, would you rely more so on your fish finder or spots ypu've caught fish at before? If you don't see anything on the screen do you try trolling there?
Both Ronan. Local knowledge helps but understanding features that hold trout on lakes is vital. You have to be ready in the right place whenever they decide to feed throughout the day.
Great vlog and good that your club practices catch and release as well. Club I fish with does same but we measure girth as well and use that to calculate weight. Had a trout last week 4lb odd which was longer than a 5lb one caught but it was a very deep and fat fish. Different mindset to accept a lighter but longer trout winning?
Thanks Andy! So for me personally and I know it won’t apply to everyone else and that’s completely fine, I don’t care about the weight of the trout, I think for catch and release fishing it doesn’t matter. A simple length is fine and get the fish back as soon as possible, taking girths is just extra handling. I know traditional ferox anglers only care about weights, so I guess that’s just traditional. Pike fishing now from the lure competition scene is all length, weight doesn’t matter, it’s just added time with the fish out of water. My views are my own though, I’ve nothing against lads keeping trout for the dinner, or weighing them, I just find it more fishing time to get a quick measure and put them back 😁👌 there’s a scale online you can use for length and has conditioning rated as “fair, good, very good” that matches up perfectly to a trouts weight I find super accurate if needed.
I remember heading from Shannon Airport here in Ireland heading to Chicago back in 2007 . In our departure lounge a plane load of US servicemen were stopping over on route to Afghanistan. I sat and had some pints with a group of them . Lovely guys , they told me they were from the Home Guard . Not fulltime soldiers more weekend and par timers . They to a man were going for financial reasons. So young , I could think of the previous servicemen of Vietnam etc . Wars , bar the Second World War, really unnecessary ❤️🇮🇪
Ah lad, gutted for ya, I'd say there was few sleepless nights after that 😢very hard to net fish on your own on a windy day from the boat, I lost a pike which at the time would have been a pb in same conditions, now I always try to get someone to come with me, but not always possible, another great video, great detail and straight from the heart, well done 👍 👍
Thanks Pauric! I’m trying to keep the videos as raw and honest this year , more chatting to the camera when things happen and talk through the day, instead of just fish fish fish 😂 it’s easier to relate too, things don’t always go according to plan, as much as we want them too 👌
Yeah see the legal limit for keeping a trout in Ireland is 14 inches to the fork, so that’s where the club competitions take their measurement from, because most of the older guys kill the trout, and others take a photo of them on the board to release them, all the measurements are taken from the fork. But in general, the pike and perch are taken from the tip of the tail. Tbh if it was a big huge trout I’d measure to the tip of the tail too. The fork is only really for people who want to keep the trout.
@@senanstanleyfishing imagine the future of fishing when the older generation stops fishing. Most of the guys my age (36) and younger are catch and release.

Big trout are the slyest of foxes and will invariably test your ability to deal with curveballs and land under pressure. Scant consolation that you got to see and engage with a beautiful wild specimen fish. But I do feel for you😏
I’m not too upset as I meet fish like this all the time but it did hurt to see it swim off after coming so close to the net 😂 that nets gone in the bin, that was more so for 40cm size trout. I will bring the large net from now on, no more messing about 😂
@@senanstanleyfishing Yes a strange design to the net. Fair play - I'd be sick for a week to lose a trout of that size. My old man still talks about trout he lost as a young fella 😄 It can hurt that much.

Oh absolutely, I’m in the process of getting a new net. 🙈👌

It’s progress I guess 😂👌
Heartbreaking m8. Nearly in net twice 😭😭. Happened to myself with a monster pike at least you got a good look at it.

Brilliant video Senan! How have you the transducer for the fish finder mounted on the boat? Thanks!
I have it mounted onto a stern saver pad on the back of the boat Jason 🤝
Fair play. Some great fish.faitly sure you wernt on the corrib because there was no mention of salmon at all.lol
Thanks Patrick, yes this wasn’t Corrib, I don’t fish there at all really ☺️

No way, I was cursing myself when you lost that ferox pal 🙄 great day fishing, that perch was unreal 👌
I’m slowly getting over it 😁
Seanan, what do you mean when you say you got it on the "twitch",do you twitch the lure as your trolling.

Great job 👍. quick question the fish finder you have is it water proof
Thank you! yep all fishfinder need to be waterproof as far as I know. Have you had issues before with them? ☺️
Well seanan I have a question what is like braid or leader
I’m so confused with it
No problem man, What’s the question Luke? ☺️
I see people on RUclips putting I think it’s called braid or leader and I’m just so confused on what it does and if I should be using it
Your leader is what separates your mainline from your lure, it’s usually a length of fleurocarbon line which is invisible for trout to see
Thanks I was just so confused love the vids

Hard to watch loosing that fish! Great day out with brilliant trout but that makes them look small !

We say "to the fork" and "to the tips" when it comes to measuring them. Most people measure them to the tips obviously because it's a bigger number :)
