I'm thinking of buying a 14ft dory would it be big enough to go on Lough Ree. It has a cabin which I like but should I go for a traditional lake boat safety wise if I plan going on lakes
Hiya,hope you dont mind me throwing in the 2cent advice here...if you fishing on a big lake I'd advise using a 19ft lake boat,much safer in wind and when churn is up.I have an Anglers fancy and i love it.
@@kieran3237 I already have a 14ft cabin boat which I use on the Shannon but thought the dory might suit. But I think I'll stick to your advice and wait to get a sheelin or something similar Thanks anyways
@@GameCastCubed senan has a sheelan,lovely boat as well,i was in the same situation as you a few yrs back when buying a boat,i owned a shetland 17ft which i used on lough derg..i changed to an anglers fancy 19ft and i love it,i have a yamaha 9.9 hp on it and its safe and great for fishing. The Sheelin would be the same.
I’m sure you would be fine in a calm day but Lough ree is probably the wildest lake in Ireland, it’s so open and exposed the wind can pick up at any moment, whatever you decide on just make sure you’re happy with the safety of it first ☺️👌🎣

Jay I don’t think you understood that this was trout fishing gear hence the 0.10mm braid, pike were not the target species, hence loosening the drag, you have to do these things when you hook a big fish. No need for stronger tackle than I used in this video, it’s perfect for trout trolling, maybe you’re not used to big Lough fishing so you might not understand. If I wanted to catch pike I would have used my pike tackle.

Been on dergh a few times now. Never caught a trout. At what speed do you trawl for them? Greetings from belgium.
So there’s no right or wrong speed for trout, but you do need to go fast, constantly accelerating with the outboard gets them to strike at the lures 👍

September is a super time for the trout, that’s one of my favourite months to get them spinning on the lake ☺️👍

No need to take so long playing it. Fish strong enough tackle so you don’t loose them.
