I‘ve fished 25years spinning before I‘ve started fly fishing. So for me this is still a small lure 😂 my dropper fly is always a baitfish between 4 and 10cm or a bigger shrimp. I think the biggest advantage of fly fishing compared to spinning is the possibility to fish really slow and shallow and have lures that hovers in the water. I have a few friends that fish suspending wobblers to overcome this disadvantage and they catch a lot more fish than the „normal“ spinning guys do. I love both techniques but got stucked at fly fishing because I am able to present all kinds of lures (big streamers, small scuds) in a perfect way. For me the hardest part is not finding lures that work or getting fish (to land them is another story 😂) but casting with a fly rod after millions of casts spinning is still a competition for me 😅 I like this pattern and will copy it today 🎉 thx for sharing ❤
Brilliant stuff Robert. Really enjoyed how you are learning from watching a spin fisherman. As you said, Fly fishing is a journey and not a destination. If you don’t learn something every time you go out then it soon gets boring. Thanks so much for sharing.
Ja ja ja, another epic Fiska Tour de Gotland. I spin, cast and fly fish. I always catch more bigger with casting and spinning, but I love fly casting and am good at it enough to enjoy catching a lot of smaller fish with it. Robert, I will try your big bait fish streamer on Largemouth and Smallmouth bass tomorrow. Thanks for the expert advice.
I have also started fishing with bigger flies and lures after watching Daniels videos, and I have to say that I catch way more fish on the open coast now. Even the small fish seem to be way more aggressive towards the bigger lures.
Ok, I tried my version on this fly but with a cone head and caught 2 nice largemouth bass on it in very windy conditions today. I switched to a modified Clouser with bead chain eyes and could roll cast it easier since it was lighter…..got 4 more bass on it. Both flies had chartreuse bucktail in then. Ok…the osprey were active when I got to the local pond…I knew I was gonna catch some on Roberts fly. If I was a real witch …….I would have transported myself to Sweden to catch sea trout instead. ha de.
Hi Robert, many THX for your insights in fishing and tying for seatrout! Myself, I tied tried similar Baitfish Pattern for baltic silver. I also had some eyes under UV-resin. My Flies stumbled laterally when retrieved around and staggered around themselves without spinning. There was no straight keeling. I feel, that this could be a not appreciated motion. How does your Streamer behave? Did you experiment with much slimmer, tobis-style Patterns also? Keep up the good work, and all the best from Berlin! Ralph
Hello, congratulations on your videos. I am a river flyfisherman in Spain. I have recently started fly fishing at sea, in river mouth areas in northern Spain. I bought a 9.6 foot rod for line 7, and I use a 7wf lake line whose casting head measured is 12 meters and has the running line integrated. I can't make long casts since I'm using very heavy baits and lures and I need advice on which line to use. I have thought about buying a scagit casting head from the opst brand, they are very short (3.50m) and I have seen in the videos that they can be used with one-handed rods and they achieve very long casts. What I would like above all is a line that allows me to make rolling casts, and that I can flip really heavy baits. Could I also use this type of lines on beaches? In your videos I see that you achieve long distances easily, I look forward to your advice. A greeting from Spain. Thank you.
The shorter head length the easier it will become. I never used that short heads. I use 8, 5 meter heads primarily and that is a big difference compared to 12 meters with heavy flies especially. But it is also about technique. A long casting stroke is better and essential for long casts. As long as you can keep the rod path straight. The rod tip path should be like traveling through a long narrow tube in the air. The better you can perfect that the longer lines and difficult casting conditions you can master. But it is easier said then done. Ask me to cast with my wrong arm and I look like a beginner. It is a lot about muscle memory.
I tie these but i use silicone instead when the mullet come in its hard to beat , i even tie surf candies but with silicone you just work it with your fingers. I tie them down to size 1 you can put some red flash in or a blend it in and it looks just like a wounded baitfish in the water, and use them as a dropper behind a clouser minnow. Its a deadly set up in the surf stripping it in , you never now whats on the end of your line . We fish off deep drop offs in the surf over a 100feet deep, it goes from 2 ft to 50 ft to a 100ft and on outgoing and incoming tide the fish lay right there waiting for the bait big stripers 20 to 40 plus not uncommon all year.
Cheers Robert for getting back to me love seeing the videos. Nice lookinh fly wondering if it would work of the Irish coast. Might tie one and give it a try.
coastal sea trout fishing just isnt practised in my area despite being between the best salmon/sea trout rivers in england n scotland (whitley bay) i have witnessed fish jumping in the shallows while fishing for sea fish ... i have a small fly rod set up but i lack the basic knowledge of where to go! tides, winds, geology, etc
fished my local beach 2 days in a row , first day was cloudy and wet with small wind , caught 3 seatrout and saw none jumping , second day was bright sun and no wind , saw lots jumping but got no takes .they were jumping over my line ! can you recommend a fly for sunny , clear day and clear water ? the fish would not look at my fly , same fly i use the day before when i caught 3
I use Petitjean Master Vise 😬 One great budget alternative is “Danica Innovation Cam Vise” I used that vise for many years. The jaws wear out over time but I remember you could buy new jaws separately.

What a Stunning Fish That Sea Trout is! Caught in Stunning Evening Light!
Gratulation to this beautiful Seatrout!!! Its a good feeling to catch fish with your own fly. I love flyfishing ❤
Nice creative tie/fly. Adding this one to my streamer box, thanks!
Thank you for that awesome footage and please stay as likable as you are.

Awesome video! A massive trout. Well done!
Thank you for the great video. I think k maybe my flys are too big, you highlighted allot of fantastic details today. Keep them Coming
What a fish Robert! Congrats

Quality content! As always
Beautifull colored fish!! WD
Hi Robert, what a great fish and film you made. That fly is to be tested in Rogaland
Fantastiskt film som vanligt! 👍
Om 2 veckor är jag där, kan knappt bärga mig!!!!!! 😁🤪
great video Any lure fly used for ST needs to have a small 12 or 14 flying treble Tight lines
Great video Robert 💯💯🎣🎣

Great video! ... What's your opinion on 2hand rods for sea trout fishing? Does it save a lot of casting and also get some you some casting distance?
Hey Robert, how long do you fish with a fly when that isn't catching anything before you switch to a new fly?
I’d build up a bump thread before the bend of the hook it stops the tail becoming wrapped around the bend of the hook
Very nice!! Have you ever fished a mickey finn for sea trout on the coast??

Do you think the head and especially the eyes are important? Im always annoyed when tying with UV resin because that part takes so long 😂
What a fish! Amazing content as always! If you don´t mind me asking: what is your camera-setup? The images are just amazing🙌🏼
Are you fishing the swedish or danish coastal waters?
Great video again:) Learn alot from u video:) What kind of rod are u using? And what kind of line?
Thank you. You find that in the video description of every video 🙂

How do you sedate the fish so it doesent fight at all, i want to know because i have never seen it before.
Hi Robert just wondering if you ever fish 9ft 8wt or do u find the 7wt I'd as heavy as you go
Hello. I fished the majority with 8wt rod this spring actually.
Cheers Robert for getting back to me love seeing the videos. Nice lookinh fly wondering if it would work of the Irish coast. Might tie one and give it a try.

how far do you usually cast - 10, 20, 30m?
Fly looks like a sheepdog

Predator dubbing baitfish in the copper color (catch & tie ep3) or the fly in the video I release on Sunday 😉
@@FlyFishingbyRobert thanks ! i will give this fly a swim the next time the fish are spooky and jumping over my fly line laughing at me
What kind of reels are you useing?
You find that in the video description of every video
Yeah man, flash blends rule. Every time I put flash in a fleye I always use a few different colors.
Hi could I ask what vice you are using I'm struggling to find an affordable rotary vice I just cant afford £300-£400 for one
I use Petitjean Master Vise 😬
One great budget alternative is “Danica Innovation Cam Vise” I used that vise for many years. The jaws wear out over time but I remember you could buy new jaws separately.
I feel like soon the standard outfit for seatrout will be #8 rod
I’m fishing more frequently with a 7wt line on a 8wt rod 👌
@@FlyFishingbyRobert okay cool i am impressed how you get such big flies out with #7😁 or you just just top of the line vision rods🤔
Do You Selling of your,s flys by order.
