I am on Team Gene regarding Brain Candy. I think it's a classic and a shining example of comedic writing. I watch it a few times a year and always find it entertaining. What I *do* agree with is Roger's implication that "if you get it, you get it and if you don't, you don't."
Roger's reaction to Brain Candy is one of the funniest moments I've ever seen on this show (I laughed out loud the first few times I watched this clip when he finished his rant by declaring the movie to be "BAD!"). I have to admit that I'm kind of right down the pipe between Gene and Roger on the film: I watched it on video and certainly enjoyed it more than Roger, but I didn't find it anywhere near as funny as Gene did, and for me I think it's a "not bad, but not really worth recommending outside of Kids in the Hall fans" decision. I also watched Getting Away With Murder a few years later on cable and agreed with both critics: it's damn obvious no one in the cast or crew wanted to be mocking or laughing at the Holocaust...but that's what came across, and it made the entire project something that just did not work.
I think what he's trying to say is A) people who hate Jews and love/like/have sympathies for Nazis would find the idea of a black comedy about a guy who may or not be a Nazi being poisoned by a liberal American adult (Aykroyd) enjoyable for vile reasons and B) trying to make a comedy out of this kind of idea at all is just a bad, bad, bad idea. Gene was disgusted by the film as a possible balm to Nazi assholes on their sick levels. I agree with him.
@@ryanloftis1125 I walked out of it to see Twister lol. I came back to it years later to give it another shot, and eh. Not really. It was kinda bland, boring, mean-spirited, confusing... I guess I just don't see the charm
Gene Siskel’s 3 favorite movies of ALL TIME-
#1 Babe
#2 Babe
#3 Babe
Gene always loves the children films that I found average as a kid.
He HATED the violent movies!
A few years later we would learn that Brain Candy is deadlier than regular candy
What Happened Was...is fantastic and just re-released on DVD/Blu-Ray

It's one of the most underrated comedies of the 1990's.
I was never a fan of Kids in the Hall. Didn't see what was so funny about their assholes.

Can anybody explain what Gene is saying during his review of "Getting Away with Murder"? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm a big Kids In The Hall fan and I am surprised Roger Ebert hated the film
20:12 On the dime, they replaced the word LIBERTY with A SIMPLE GRRAT RATE
One could pull off a comedy that involves the holocaust. So far, the best example I have seen is The Cremator.
James & Giant peach - pure delightful 👍👍👍
Jane Eyre - Wonderful entertainment 👍👍👍
Ebert put ....Murder on his list of the worst movies of the year but not Brain Candy?
They liked James and the Giant Peach. Hmm
Did you not like it?
