    Hi wendy. I wish i could share pic of the Balchao i made following your recipe. It has turned out just so goooood. My family and friends just loved it and even asked for the recipe 😂.
    The only changes i made were...
    De seeding all 30 chillies
    Added 1 more extra tbsp of sugar and 1/4 cup less vinegar. The reason being our spice and sour tolerance is low 😊. But yeah an absolute keeper of this recipe, rest assured !! Thanks once again❤

    I am from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and I never heard of this and I love prawns and this reminds me of kimchi.I subscribed today and have viewed a number of your recipes and I am loving them.I will try to make some for my children and grandchildren. I am 67yrs and retired from teaching.

    Here comes a recipe on Wendy's Prawn Balchao.
    Kashmiri chillies, garlic and ginger,
    Go into the blender with vinegar.
    Marinated prawns are ready for frying,
    Oil is heated for seasoning.
    Prawns are cooked with the masala,
    Wendy says it needs time for maturing.
    Delicious and yummy,
    From the nostrils to the tummy.😀👌👌😋😋

    Thanks Wendy for sharing this delicious looking recipe .... I know the taste will be awesome .... Just some clarifications required ...
    1) You have used round cinnamon, so it is 1 and 1/2 inch …if we use the flat one should we double the quantity and use 3 inches?
    2) What is the ml of the cup measure that you use in all your recipes? …. Is it 200 ml / 240 ml / 250 ml? I think in the US they use 240 ml and in Canada 250 ml cup measure. Please clarify
    3) Do the prawns become chewy as we have to fry them till all the moisture is dried out so that the Balchao does not spoil? When I have bought readymade Prawn Balchao from Goa, the prawns are so chewy….
    4) The weight of the prawns is before shelling or after shelling?
    I know to an expert like you my questions will seem stupid … but please do not mind… this is the first time I am trying a Prawn Balchao Recipe and would not like to go wrong…Thanks for understanding and your patience….God Bless!!!

    Hi Wendy! You’ve brought back so many fond memories of my dad with this recipe. I wanted to ask, should we store the pickle at room temperature first and then in the fridge? Or does it stay at room temp for the 15 days? Thanks x

    Thank you for this easy to follow recipe. I'd been on the hunt for a good recipe for sometime now. Will assuredly try this, but before that I would like to know if the prepared Balchao should be left on the counter or in the refrigerator for its resting period and later too.

      You could go in with lime or lemon juice Mary. It may not give the exact flavour of vinegar but you will definitely be close 😊 Enjoy!

    I.mafd mistake I did not add vinegar while grinding. I put it on when I put the ground spi es and prawn will it make a difference I only used about 1 pound shrimps.

      @@PlatinItWithWendy Yay! Thanks, Wendy… but it has to be soft melt in the mouth with a slightly sweet resonance to it and I am sure it will have curry leaves. I remember sitting on the table while she packed bottles of it wrapped and sewn in material to protect it to post it to my 17 year old uncle who was studying medicine at university in the U.K.! Poor guy having to open it up- but I am sure he loved eating it! Brinjal pickle sandwiches … to die for! Thanks Wendy.

Just one question, since I will definitely make this again, can any other vinegar which is easily available in supermarkets, be used in this recipe?

    What can v substitute for red wine vinegar ?is it common one to get at any shop ?can v make this in big size prawn?is red vinegar and red wine vinegar the same

      Apple cider vinegar or red vinegar can be used if you are unable to get red wine vinegar. It is usually made with small prawns.

    Tried your prawn balchao it was superb the kids finishes half of it immediately after it was made
    Wanted to know if I can add dried Bombay ducks to the same masala paste to make bombil pickle
    Please advise and how much bombils should I add
    Or if you could please share a bombil pickle recipe

    Wendy, in Kolkata the Anglo Indians put something known as (nappi) to get the smell of balchao, does it have to have that smell ?
