  • I was lucky enough to attend an adventure bike riding clinic with ‪@ChrisBirchNZ‬! It was held in Richfield Utah. This video is not meant to teach what Chris teaches, but to show my experience in taking the course (TLDR: it was amazing). This video is Part 1 of 2.

    What ride mode settings did Chris have you use for that terrain?

      we were in Rally mode, street throttle and traction control set to 1 (basically off). I was using TC of 3 though because im bad

    New sub here. Love this video, blocking and tackling. Repetition should be a close friend to us all! Muscle memory, neural & physical conditioning don't happen automatically. Do these drills so you're more comfortable on the bike... and can ultimately go faster, be more confident, and be safer overall!

    Awesome training terrain, not to mention having CB as coach as a bonus. Just a point on the narration volume. For future videos any chance on increasing your base volume. Ambient sound (exhaust etc) was fine. Often I had to strain to hear what you were saying.

      Thanks for watching! On the audio volume, was it the whole video? Thats not feedback ive received before but id like to look into it. Usually i lower the other sound tracks when im narrating for that exact reason.

      @@FeathersOffroad it was quite a lot. Live feed pickup might be softer vs voice over. Understandable. Do you use a chin mount GoPro?

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад

      it was a chest mount cam and it is definitely hard to hear over the 890. On my dirt bike engine noise doesn't get picked up as much. I need to get a different mic setup when riding. Maybe the voice over audio is ok, and the GoPro audio is the too quiet stuff

    • @seanfrench1029
      @seanfrench1029 Год назад

      @@FeathersOffroad I considered a chesty mount before but POV too low as it cuts out too much of landscape. Top of helmet is nice but on enduro rides (on my 300) low branches are a regular hassle). My Dango chin mount is happy medium for immersive feel plus landscape but, prone to bump handlebars or GPS. Always a tradeoff. Chin mount good for mic sound though.

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад

      Hey Billy! Hope you are healing up. I didnt have any video of your crash but it was crazy. The red bar is because my dealer half-installed my heated grips. They were missing the HCU controller and so i get a lovely check engine light every time i start the bike now. HCU parts are on backorder too (of course)

      Thanks! This was the advanced class. There was an optional day ride on the next day following the class but I had other stuff to do at home so this was just two days. Back injuries are no joke. I cant imagine having any injury and doing what we did on those two days.

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад +1

      I took the advanced class, but I wouldn't consider myself advanced. they cater to a wide skill range, even in that class. You should definitely sign up. I was considering it again, it was that good. I don't think I can make the dates work this time. Wheelie is coming! I'm not riding them out yet but I can pop the wheel pretty consistently and controlled. I need to do an update video on that 😀

    Coming off of 500… Just purchased my first adventure bike… KTM 890 adventure R. Definitely gonna watch these videos to help with the transition to this big beast of a bike. Also looking at the tires I’m very concerned these continental TKC 80s do not look like they will work off-road very well. Curious what you were running or what most of the guys are running in that group.

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад +1

      In the US there is a recall on TKC 80s. because of that, my dealer replaced my front with a shinko, and my rear was still a semi-worn TKC 80. They both really did well. i did need to drop the pressure a little in some of the terrain. I know a few were running MotoZ, but I couldn't say what the majority were running. The 890 to me feels a lot smaller than it is (I also have a 450)

      @@FeathersOffroad yeah I’m so lost at this point only because I have never owned a big adventure bike like this and I’m just now getting it ready to take it off road. I’m gonna leave the stock tires on for the moment and just try to get familiar with the bike before I make any big changes to the tires. Since I ride mainly SoCal desert the multis desert HT seems like a good way to go but I’m sure there are a multitude of good tires. I would say probably 90% of my writing will be off-road as well. Thank you for your feedback

      I run Motoz tractionators on multistrada. Pretty good on pavement for a knob tire, and excellent off road. It’s 80% and 20% on road. Great tires, highly recommend them.

    I came over after watching your part 2 video, i'm now very interested in attending one of CB's course as well. That been said, i've looked all over your videos and couple of CB's websites, youtube channels, etc. and didn't find some sort of bike requirement. So do we need to own/rent a ktm 790/890? Or can we bring whatever is on par with that model and or something we have confidence in finishing the course with. From the look of itineraries you guys have gone thru, a modest medium sized adv bike should do, right?

    • @obstinatejack
      @obstinatejack Год назад

      actually nm, i think i saw a yamaha tenere 700 in the mix, so i guess there's no hard requirement on which exact bike to use for the course

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад

      no hard requirement. in my class it was several KTM 890, one Tenere 700, one KTM 1090 and even like a 650 something I think (can't remember). The 1090 guy definitely had his hands full but did great. There were no rentals that I know of.

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад

      This was the advanced class. I actually talked with them about how they distinguish between skill sets. They said that is the biggest challenge: people who 'self-rank' as advanced, but arent. I would have self-ranked as maybe high-intermediate. The intermediate class seemed pretty basic based on description. I rolled the dice on advanced and felt just fine in that class.

      @@FeathersOffroad That's super helpful, thanks. I don't consider myself 'advanced', but I think I'd be comfortable on everything I saw in your videos, so again, that's really helpful to know. Great videos.

    What are you using to mount your quad lock on the bike?

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad  Год назад

      Ive got the NiceCNC gps mount that fits in the OEM spot but has an AMPS hole pattern. Then a Ram AMPS to 1 inch ball, then the quadlock 1inch ball + stabilizer. You can see some of it here ruclips.net/video/yXiFNQkO8Bk/видео.html, but i dont think i added the quad lock when this video was recorded.
