Practicing Hills and Off-Camber with a New Adv Rider
Ready to conquer any terrain? Join me as I ride with a friend and new adventure bike rider. This video dives into two essential off-road techniques for adventure bike riders: tackling hills and navigating off-camber sections. We'll break down the basics for beginners, then put it all together for a smooth, confident ride! The motorcycles in this ride were a KTM 890 Adventure R and a Triumph 800 XC.

Installing Hanguards on a KTM 890 Adventure R (and which ones not to use)
Просмотров 17021 день назад
In this video, I will take you through the process of installing motorcycle handguards on a KTM 890 Adventure R. I'll show you the steps involved in removing your old guards (spoiler alert, it's pretty easy) and then...well, the not-so-smooth sailing of trying to fit a specific pair. Let's just say, not all handguards are created equal! I run into some fitment issues along the way, but fear not...

    Funny enough for an analysis take, but I'd say you're overthinking it (but analysing in this way is of course good). Your brain suddenly flagged something beyond your perceived ability, so you reacted to it by applying more brake to basically take a precaution for a fall, resulting in the fall. Trust the bike more, keep your eyes up, and be aware without actually reacting. Hands stay loose, very slow application of the brake if necessary, and keep your speed up. All the "rules" I still break regularly 😂

    • @FeathersOffroad
      @FeathersOffroad Месяц назад

      totally agree. you always fall back to your training, and in this case it looks like im trained to hit the brakes unfortunately. More to work on!

      @@FeathersOffroad yep, I had good advice the other week: find a challenging trail and do it over and over again, rather than always riding something new. Some kind of off-road circuit, even better, as you'll push your boundaries a little each time. New routes tend to wind you back in constantly as you'll make other mistakes due to unfamiliarity which lowers confidence.

    Great job, just riding to learn. I get made fun of for analyzing good technique and understanding the physics of riding. In reality, a lot of skill is in the head. In a lot of situations, a rider wants to be cautious and slow. Three years into learning to ride, I can't count how many times I've been able to get through something I thought was impossible by giving it the beans. Even through rough sections (I'm not talking boulders that will hit the skid plate), keeping up your speed so your suspension is doing the work helps. Even with minimal traction, the gyro effect of moving wheels and forwards momentum is an amazing thing.

    • @FeathersOffroad

    As someone who changed to 50/50 tires and doesn't ride over 140 km/h, I think the rally shield is good the safest for off-road. I rode with the original and with the Puig shield which really helped at high speeds but they are dangerous. In case of falling forward the shield will be very close to the throat. The purpose of the hole in the shield is to let air in and break the bubble that may cause buffeting

    Great video and amazing view. Regarding the first fall- in the last course I learned a method for terrain with loose rocks. That's what always scared me. Tilt the motorcycle to one side and continue straight with the body in a counterweight. Riding at a tilt improves grip and stability. It's hard to explain why but it works. BTW, I've have a broken hand for 4 months now and haven't been riding because of a fall, it's unclear why it happened. I think I looked too far ahead and didn't see a small step on a steep descent with two ruts on the side. It was enough for my front to lock up and it ended badly. It could have been worse because I was in the middle of the desert but I was riding with a group. We shouldn't ride off road alone- not even on gravel trails. The case of Itchy Boots is not unusual. stay safe

      @FeathersOffroad Месяц назад

      @@orpaztron when I took a class a while ago the counterweight technique you are describing was so strange for me. I was able to immediately see the benefits from it though. I try to practice that one when I can because so much of this area has off camber side hills. Hope you heal fast 🤘

    Man there's a dirt road near me that runs parallel to a river, and it's not challenging but it gets a lot of use and it has a ton of potholes. There's a couple sections that have trees that just perfectly hide them and if you don't know about them then there's a couple deep potholes that will catch you by surprise. I've since started easing up when I see those shadow patches. It makes sense cause the shade means less sunlight which means snow sits there for longer and causes worse holes. I think you're right about the mistakes you made, the only thing I'd add is something I struggle with which is remembering to look as far ahead as possible
