It doesn't matter how tall the windscreen is for eliminating buffeting, a tall screen will only eliminate wind pushing directly on you. To eliminate buffeting you need to identify the source of the buffeting and eliminate as much of it as possible from the source. On my 890 I found out that the source is 3 fold. The front high fender which vibrates at high speeds and causes wind to swirl in front of the bike, the side mirrors where my double take mirrors were definitely worse than the standard mirrors, but I found a position where the turbulence from the mirrors stopped hitting my shoulders and head, so the fact that you can play around with the double take ones in basically infinite positions really helped. For the front fender, using the S low fender helped a lot. The remaining buffeting which I assume comes from the design of the from headlight was mostly eliminated with a spoiler. Looking at how you put the spoiler on your windshield makes me laugh a bit. A spoiler is designed, just like in a car, to create laminar (non turbulent) airflow by trapping air between 2 surfaces, in our case the windshield and the spoiler, so if you want to see positive impact from a spoiler with regards to buffeting, you need to have a good chunk of your spoiler overlapping with your windshield, and not putting the spoiler over your windshield as that only creates more turbulence. Long story short, if you would have overlapped the spoiler with your windshield at least 50% and then play with the angle of the spoiler to deflect that "clean" air produced by this overlap over your shoulders or over your head, depending on your heigh, you might have gotten away with using the standard windshield + spoiler. The screen you bought does effetely the same, as that hole in the shield is acting as a spoiler which creates some laminar flow, that you feel as "clean" air, but be aware that the phone you have in that position might also create some turbulence in that airflow generated by the hole.
As someone who changed to 50/50 tires and doesn't ride over 140 km/h, I think the rally shield is good the safest for off-road. I rode with the original and with the Puig shield which really helped at high speeds but they are dangerous. In case of falling forward the shield will be very close to the throat. The purpose of the hole in the shield is to let air in and break the bubble that may cause buffeting
agree, ive dumped the bike too many times to want a big windshield pointed at my neck. Ive been really happy with this particular version, even on the highway its very smooth at my height.
KTM sells a similarly shaped one that I just installed on my Adv R Rally. I am not overly excited about it, but it works. I am much shorter (5’7) than you however.
Im trying to balance having some wind blocking and not being too tall. I think the Puig used offroad could get kind of sketchy pointed right at your neck in an 'over the bar situation'. this Chinese one seems to be a decent balance so far.

Glad you found somewhat of a solution.
I am having a terrible time with buffering on my S1000XR.

I have been having some issues with my growler build, how about you? I keep snapping the hanger and when that happens, the derailleur breaks
Hello, is it vibrating in offroad?
Not so far. Im doing a week-long ride soon. I will do a follow up video after.
I bought the puig touring windshield, light smoke off Amazon for $145. It’s still not big enough

@@FeathersOffroad it’s definitely not big enough for a “touring” windshield, check it out 👍🏻
There’s also California Scientific windscreens, if they’re not already on your radar. I’ve not tried them myself, but I’ve heard good things.
@@noahrobin1941 I bought the givi touring one off revzilla, looks good on other uploads

6’3 average build? More like 6’1 and scrawny bro!
6'3 and jacked on roids
