What I like about the Prequels is that they highlight political oppression's psychological roots in the individual: individual human weakness lays the ground for dictatorships and mob rule to take shape.
People criticized the prequels because of politics, and miss the point. Apparently politics are so easily taken for granted that it flies over our heads even when talking about it.

This Documentary really makes me (a big Star Wars fan) appreciate the franchise and the story as a whole so much more. You truly get to see how the story unfolds. Very cool. Try attempting to resurrect not one but TWO deeply beloved, fanboy franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. He did a better job than most, and he did it twice. You utter ingrates.
@@That2J So having a standard of quality and that not being met equals being an ingrate? Sure.... And you use that word "resurrect" as if everyone, everywhere WANTED them back and weren't content with what we already had. This is the main M.O. of major studios today: Member Berries. That South Park reference might be used constantly, but it doesn't make it any less true. Here's a nutty idea for the so-called creatives making movies today: take the things you grew up on, like Wars and Trek and use them to spur your own creative ideas and characters. Like George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry did when they came up with their respective creations. Except ol' J.J. doesn't have any creativity. If he did, he'd be able to finish a story. Mystery Box = no real plan or answers. People like Abrams are all the same. They claim to be a fan of something, but if it means a paycheck, they'll take that thing and do as lazy a job as they can with it. Star Trek '09 was an attempt to turn Trek into Star Wars, by their own admission by the way. Into Darkness was a hatchet job on Wrath of Khan, Force Awakens was a remake of A New Hope and Rise of Skywalker was a sloppy attempt to tie off a trilogy that never had a plan, again by Abrams own admission. The Prequels were far from great. But at least they had a mapped out story that didn't trash what people had seen already. No one will make a documentary one day called "The Sequel Trilogy: The Legacy Revealed". Because it is now just another thing that was once special and twisted into a generic product. But by all means enjoy. You can eat McDonald's all day if you want. Just don't insist it's gourmet food. Because of people like Abrams, the soulless suits at Disney and FAR too easy to please "fans" that just accept anything with a particular logo on it, that's all Star Wars represents now.

The man is wrong about the Cold War analogy. George Lucas himself is a socialist and was reportedly sympathetic to the USSR; Lucas was actually comparing the Rebels to the VC and the Empire to the US.
51:32 it could also stem from starting out as a slave and having no control of your destiny. Then he is inducted into the Jedi order and is expected to conform to their way of life. And of course he rebels by allow yourself to fall in love with Padme and the frustration of having to keep that relationship a secret only adds to his disdain with the order and its rigid codes. Palpatine is also in his ear inflating his ego and planting seeds of doubt in the sincerity of the Jedi.
I love this documentary but find it kind of funny having all these politicians on here discussing the significance of Star Wars. But thank you for this, all I have is a VHS copy I taped off the TV when it was first aired.
One must remember that a good majority of politicians were scholars before they became politicians. I feel they chose the ones they did because of their scholarly expertise not because they were politicians.
Awesome Star Wars documentary along the lines of the phenomenal Empire of Dream Star Wars documentary.I. love how the commentators bring up the women of Star Wars & how they are not only integral to the story & the hero’s journey, but are strong individuals who maintain the femininity & maternal aura without being overt. They aren’t the insufferable in-you-face Girl Boss like Brie Larson IRL or her factuous on screen persona Captain Marvel. The Star Wars females are smart, clever, industrious & beautiful without being propagandized detritus. Modern directors & writers could learn a thing or two from Lucas who was always ahead of his time & a few steps ahead of others in myriad ways whether it was filmmaking, marketing or strong female characters.
Not gonna lie, the fact they got Jim Raynor's (StarCraft) voice actor to narrate this was pretty amazing. From one sci-fi space opera universe to another!
2:58 - 3:16 One example, from me and from a historical viewpoint, of what she’s talking about is this… Lucas may have based the Ewoks, taking on the stormtroopers, on the Vietcong, but I see from that scene is the Dayaks of Borneo and the Moros of the Philippines giving hell to Japanese troops in World War II.
I'm still having a difficult time coping with Lucas selling to Disney. So much promise in this original made of mythology from this one man's brain. In Disney with all of their various executives and writers can't get a damn thing right. You're the one Lucas! You are the best.
If you've not watched it, watch the Adventures version of Young Indiana Jones. It helped me so much with the grieving process. It captures the wonder and love that Star Wars used to have.
I watched the video you linked. It was a fascinating discussion of the similarities between the Hero's Journey, as described by Joseph Campbell, and the Star Wars films. Campbell's Hero's Journey is a universal pattern that can be found in myths and stories from all over the world. It tells the story of a hero who goes on an adventure, faces challenges, and ultimately returns home transformed. The Star Wars films follow the Hero's Journey very closely. Luke Skywalker is the hero, and his journey takes him from his home on Tatooine to the Death Star, where he faces Darth Vader and saves the galaxy. The video also discusses how the Star Wars films have been influenced by other myths and stories. For example, the character of Darth Vader is similar to the Greek god Cronus, who ate his own children. Overall, I found the video to be very informative and thought-provoking. It gave me a new appreciation for the Star Wars films and the Hero's Journey. Here are some additional thoughts on the topic: • The Hero's Journey is a powerful story archetype that has resonated with people for centuries. It is a story of hope, transformation, and redemption. • The Star Wars films are a modern retelling of the Hero's Journey. They have brought this ancient story to a new generation and helped to make it even more popular. • The Hero's Journey is a reminder that we all have the potential to be heroes. We can all go on an adventure, face challenges, and ultimately return home transformed.

Star Wars Tech is on the Blu-ray collection, right? Is it also on Disney Plus?
@@sambridgers9543 Yes, it was included in the 2011 Complete Saga set.

Yeah op, this most definitely should've been released in the Blu-ray set. It's a real nut-scratcher as to why it wasn't included.
I love seeing JJ Abrams pop up in this opining about the depth and meaning of a story he would go on to help dismantle and cheapen.
@@Voltar Agree JJ was planning to put Luke in the force awakens more but refused saying he would up stage the new characters but that just shows he a terrible story teller.
@@jaieregilmore971 Indeed. Just ask any Star TREK fan.
Very cool. Try attempting to resurrect not one but TWO deeply beloved, fanboy franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. He did a better job than most, and he did it twice.
You utter ingrates.
@@That2J And both times he fucked up. L take
@@That2J So having a standard of quality and that not being met equals being an ingrate?

I love this documentary but find it kind of funny having all these politicians on here discussing the significance of Star Wars. But thank you for this, all I have is a VHS copy I taped off the TV when it was first aired.

Disney should be "Me Too'd" for what they did to Star Wars 😢
It's George's fault
I love this documentary… can never get enough of it 💯💯
This documentary is one of the best things I have ever watched.
Real fans realize that this is the true Star Wars documentary, and that the story ends at return of the Jedi.
2:58 - 3:16
One example, from me and from a historical viewpoint, of what she’s talking about is this…
Lucas may have based the Ewoks, taking on the stormtroopers, on the Vietcong, but I see from that scene is the Dayaks of Borneo and the Moros of the Philippines giving hell to Japanese troops in World War II.
It's incredible, every single time that I re-watch this wonderful documentary on this part (47:47) gives me the goosebumps of awesomeness.
My favorite part is 57:23: the speech and music go too well together.
Here are some additional thoughts on the topic:
• The Hero's Journey is a powerful story archetype that has resonated with people for centuries.
