    The upside-down signs first appeared in Tarn, Occitanie, and have spread nationally, but it is in Brittany that they are the most visible. The act is a protest by local farmers to raise visibility of the challenges they face.

    Bonjour.
    Normally, old houses are naturally ventilated because doors, windows and roofs do not close very well.
    But it is highly recommended that, at least in the humid rooms (kitchen, bathroom,…) you install a VMC (French for Ventilation Mecanique Contrôlée or Controlled Mechanical Ventilation CMV single flow but with humidity detection)
    It runs 24/7, adapts the speed of the extraction to the current humidity and does bring confort by reducing the overall humidity.
    It is even compulsory if you change doors and windows to modern ones as the natural air flow through badly sealed elements will be no more there.
    Have fun.
    Do not forget that old houses do not like cement (Portland) as it is not permeable to water vapour. Lime and Sand in some places and Lime and hemp in other places are recommended. Cork is also to be considered.

    We are renovating a similar house in Normandy. When we returned to the house after 6 months, we also found mold. We treated it and then bought a big dehumidifier (costing around €175), which removed any remaining moisture from the air. Good luck - you've found a real beauty! • @carolleenkelmann3829
      @carolleenkelmann3829 26 дней назад

      Wisteria is a lovely looking vine but it is essentially an invasive plant from Asia and strangles and smothers existing trees. Due to its rapid growth and spread, some wisterias can become quite heavy, putting a strain on the object or structure that it is attached to. It can spread in very small nooks and crannies, so placing near a structure such as your home is not advisable. It is also associated with a fungus.

    Upside down signs are part of the farmer's protest. From what I have seen, the humidity is largely from the stone walls not being able to breathe. Not sure of course. For a large house it certainly has an odd layout. Everything obviously added on as times changed and needs were met better. It could be beautiful if layed out properly as the rooms are certainly generous in size. Best wishes from Australia

    • @oinatao
      @oinatao  Месяц назад

      A big problem with the humidity was that nobody was there and the house was cold all winter. after we started heating it with the only remaining wood stove (which will be replaced soon) it got way better. so we are relatively sure, that this won't be a problem in the long term...thanks for watching. Congratulations, you have found such a gem of a property! Gorgeous features all over. I'd say: don't take the mold problem lightly. Black mold is very, very dangerous and can create havoc with one's health. I can guarantee you have mold spores all over the place. If I were you, I'd buy an ozone generator and let it run for a few hours in each room. Because O3 is also toxic it would be best to leave the house during applicaitons, especially because of the kids, let's say while on vacation.

    A great buy. Just to mention that black mold is very toxic and it is advisable to wear gloves and a face mask which is suitable for mold removal when dealing with it. Mold spores are likely to be on parts of the room other than the walls too. The suggestion another viewer made to use a dehumidifier is a good one. I wish you well with your project and will be watching it with interest.

    Great house with lots of charm and potential. Looking forward to hearing about your renovation plans, budget, costs etc. Quick question - did you buy with your friend to share the house and are you planning to live full time there for just one year or permanently? Thanks for sharing your renovation journey!

      so the plan is to turn this in to a place where groups can share holidays, workshops or seminars, with probably around 14-16 people in the house and the option to have people camp in the garden. Our plan as a family is to live there for one year (basically one school year for the kids) and then move back after the renovations but come back for holidays with friends regularly

    Will you be keeping this as a holiday home? Or, is the intention that you will move permanently?
    Was the electrical and plumbing all set to go when you moved in?
    You actually did very well in setting up the rooms that you choose to use, already cozy.
    Love the ceilings, the wood, and of course all the stone.
    The settings of these older homes are generally all so beautiful....they definitely prioritized settings years ago.
    By Canadian standards, 303 years old is really old lol.

      Hi Eirene, so it is between Dax and Bayonne. The plan is to live there for a year, have the kids learn the language and have the experience of living in a different culture. the plan is to go back after a year and to use the house for holidays with several families, groups or even seminars and workshops. The electricity and plumbing are kind of working, although from three toilets only one is really usable. Thanks for watching!

    The roof is leaking, causing mold. You can see water marks on ceiling. Fix roof first.

    • @oinatao
      @oinatao  Месяц назад +1

      That's what I thought as well at first. so I went up on the roof, some of the tiles were broken and I changed those. but it turned out it was also the moisture from the open window below, which also explains why the walls had mould.

    What a magical house, very curious what your plans are and if they include separate entrances to the bedrooms. A fireman told me once the kind of layout you have now is dangerous in case of a fire. They will have a hard time locating these rooms that are at the back of another room. But maybe you already are aware of that.

    • @oinatao
      @oinatao  Месяц назад +1

      We want to add some new entrances on the ground floor, but according to the workers we spoke with it is rather difficult to add entrances to the upper floor (very expensive, because the walls are so thick, but potentially also not allowed by the municipality). However, we will make sure, that there are large windows over which you can flee in case of fire in these rooms. thanks for your concerns, Episode 3 will be all about our plans! Stay tuned.

    U hebt de schimmels verwijderd en schoongemaakt en opnieuw geverfd. Maar waarom is de schimmel ontstaan?
    Was er ergens lekkage?
    Is het huis met verkeerde materialen gerenoveerd? Of is er geen drainage rondom het huis?

    • @oinatao
      @oinatao  Месяц назад

      There are several reasons. One is that part of the drainage around the house has probably been destroyed by roots and the rainwater is therefore not draining well. The second problem is that we haven't heated and ventilated the house for eight months over a very rainy winter. The materials are ok, I think. After heating for a few days, the humidity was also normal. In the future, we will insulate the roof, install new wood-burning stoves and ensure that the house is aired occasionally, even if we are not there for a long time.
