Haha. Some love it. Some hate it. But unfortunately it had cracks and random patches of concrete all over anyway, that the previous owner had used to patch up work. So it had to go!
I love it when they work with the history and patch the patches with like materials. The landlord reno bummed me out too. Airbnb vibes. Edited to say, to be clear the house looks great. Just the bathroom bummed me out. lol
Some people like terrazo but it wasn’t to our taste. It wasn’t “original” as it was put in maybe 15 years ago.. and also unfortunately had big patches of concrete filling some gaps and cracks. So we decided to get rid of it 🙃
Thoroughly enjoyed it and subscribed can’t do more as I’m an 80 year old pensioner that has to watch her cents as yes I don’t live in the UK but in Italy coming here way back in 1969 when I was 25. Keep the good work up it’s all looking great. It’s also a big achievement having a young baby to look after too.
We didn’t mind how it looked but you couldn’t see anything on it bc if the pattern… bad for baby cleaning. Also there were random patches of concrete in it 😬
The house has a solid foundation and well-built. Good decision in buying it. So glad that they kept the original works. Both of them are so skillful in rebuilding their beloved home.
😊😊😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍👍👍Es estupendo ver como la familia progresa y hace un buen trabajo,, sois un ejemplo para muchas personas,, enhorabuena seguir así!! Saludos desde,
The bathroom seems a little lost. I love that you went the more natural/original look for the walls, but then a sleek, modern mirror and fittings... I would have gone with something more rustic to fit the era of the house
It’s a shame you both think so. But we mentioned in the full length videos that this is not actually going to be our final bathroom fit - we’ll probably redo the bathroom properly in a year or 2. We just wanted something to freshen it in the meantime without spending too much money. Something clean and bright until we can do the full reno in the future, while we work on other rooms in the house first. 😊
Really admire your hands on spirit. There is nothing that you guys won't do!. Just curious if you teach yourselves as you go along or do you have previous experience in the building trade. I'm in Valencia just down the road. I bought a boat near tortosa, know roughly where you are. Love the show!
Can you please tell me the name of the product that you used to go over your tiles in the bathroom walls shower area as I will be able to see if they sell the product here in Australia. The Reno looks amazing.
Thank you! 🥰 The one we used was called “Masilla cubre azulejos en pasta” by the brand TOUPRET. It is a fine paste material designed specifically for covering tiles. Hopefully you can find something similar for your project 😁
Unfortunately it had cracks and random areas of concrete all over the floor where the previous owner had done patch up jobs. So it had to go. It was only laid about 15 years ago anyway so wasn’t an “original” feature.
I presume you think it was made from stone or something? It wasn’t, it was just a conglomerate concrete. If it was stone we would have been much more careful to keep it!! 🙂
Yes. It worried us at first too! But we had an electrician check all the wiring in the house and it’s all safe and it’s just how it is done here. No neutral. 🙃
How far from the big city did you buy this house? Did you look for a long time? Did you contact realtors? We, a family of Ukrainians with children, are also thinking about moving to Spain, but we like the Zaragoza area better. We would like to buy a house in a small city (in terms of money, it seems like the same as paying for a year of rent for an apartment), but so that there would be at least a school (junior and senior) so that the children could study. Or better yet, a small farm. But we don’t know how to choose who to contact. For us, the most important thing is the availability of transport links to Zaragoza, so that our eldest daughter can go to university, and that there is good internet, since all our work is online.
Where we live now is about 2.5 hours drive from Barcelona. Our village has a small nursery and school, and the senior school is in the next town (with a bus that transports the children each day). I think that’s how quite a lot of smaller towns/villages are set up. We used websites like buscomasia, kyero and Idealista to search for different types of properties and budgets. You can see which estate agents are representing the properties and contact them to arrange a viewing. They usually have more properties than they advertise, so you can talk to them about what your needs are, and they can help suggest suitable properties. It’s worth saying that having some level of Spanish is important for more rural areas, as the agents don’t necessarily speak other languages. But saying that I’m sure you could find someone set up who works in English or Ukrainian, as there are many expats searching for places in Spain now. Internet is a simple fix - starlink. It works perfectly for us, installed on the roof. Good luck with your search! We’re sure you’ll be able to find something suitable 🥰
@SmithsdaleFarm we speak spanish because we live in Argentina since april 2022, but now we have idea to move to Spain because of economical situation in LATAM. Thanks for your reply. 👍
It was only laid about 15 years ago.. so it wasn’t “original”..! And had lots of cracks and random patches of concrete where the previous owner had patched up a few bits. So it had to go.. 🤷🏻♀️
For any major renovation or adaptation to the house (for example, in this case changing our windows and building a new kitchen). We’ll be making a video very soon about it, as all the info can be a bit hard to find and piece together. We’re going to share what we’ve learned from 4 years of off grid and town based projects so far
This is very sad man, because people like you buying cheap houses in Spain leave young spanish people with no choices and sites to buy or rent,,,😢😢we have 1.000€ salaries
I’m sorry you feel like that.. but we have lived and worked in Spain for 10 years, paying our taxes and contributing to the economy as any other young Spanish person would. 🤷🏻♀️ We have bought a home in a very rural area that we want to live in. Not something in a big city to turn into an Airbnb… please don’t group us with other people you might have those opinions about… 😒
@ Yeah, and I have lived here since always and I have not a Job either a house,,,My parents paid taxes all their lives, and spanish government is supposed to bring us a future. There isnt. You are lucky. Most of young spanish people are in the same situation like me.
I died inside, when you painted over the black & white floor lol

Painting the original floor? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?
@alidabotes6264 “Original” ? The house is over 100 years old. That floor was only put in about 15/20 years ago.

Would love to see the old ceiling beams sanded to original finish. I bet they are beautiful. But quite a job , I’m sure
@hstan5589 Thank you. We’re trying our best 🥰
@valerieann2751 watch this space…. We’ll be sanding them back in the kitchen!! 💪🏻
It's got some lovely original features. I particularly like some of the floor tiles.

So glad to catch up from Valencia province. I’ve done this with babies and it’s seriously hard work. Well done.

Amazing video. Really shows what you can do yourself. I think I would have kept that lovely old stone kitchen counter, but hey, it's your home!
Thank you. The kitchen counter was not stone (we would have kept it if it was..!) it was just made from concrete.

You have made a good choice using lime plaster. Its the best for old houses.
Yes we are happy to have used it, something we wanted to learn. Thinking to go over the existing stuff in the kitchen with the same stuff.
The bathroom seems a little lost. I love that you went the more natural/original look for the walls, but then a sleek, modern mirror and fittings... I would have gone with something more rustic to fit the era of the house
