Just gotta say that your tactics have helped me a lot! Especially the throw ins. Never been in a CHL semifinal, but scored a goal after throw in to clinch the semifinal vs. PSG! Thanks, and keep up the work!
The long throws immediately started having a big effect for my matches. 10/10 recommend. Sometimes they head in off the throw, sometimes they volley or header pass it to someone else and they bang it in.
THE THROW INS REALLY WORK!!! national league north play off final just had two long throws both create opportunities. the second one headed in by our best aerial threat. absolutely lovely
I finished watching this video and tried this. In the very next match, in the very first corner we scored. It was less than a minute of game time! Thank you for this!
I watched this video having very rarely scored from corners or throw ins. Played PSG in the second leg of the Champions League semi final trailing 1-0. Parked the bus (couldn’t afford to concede an away goal) and nicked 2 goals in the last 10 minutes! One with a tap in from a near post flick on from a corner then a scrambled toe poke after a long throw 🙌 thank you Zealand, Blackburn Rovers are European champions (beat Real in the final) because of you!
Zealand you are insane! In german i woud say Ich küsse dein Auge :D Just watched this and instructed my set pieces and it gave me more chances in 3 games than I had the whole season. Ad in th 3rd game I got 2 goals from corner and throw-in!!! They send me to the german cup final with Stuttgart!! Big thank you from Germany :)
Thank you so much!!! I manage Ajax and bought Anel Ahmedhodzic from Malmö FF in my first season for €6M. Now, in my 3rd season, I brought in defenders that are just better than him in almost every way. I was looking to sell the guy after this season. Then your video came along. First game the guy played, he scored a hattrick from set-pieces!!! After 3 weeks and a couple more goals, Ahmedhodzic signed a new 5 year deal. Thanks dude!
I've set up my attacking routines exactly like you've said, just before title deciding match. First half I'm winning 0:4 against second team in table, arch rivals too. My CB scored hattrick. 2 goals from throw-ins, 2 from corners.
INSTANTLY started scoring more from set pieces after setting these! From the throw ins my players seem to not be able to get it in the near post, but the lurkers around the box always get it and cross it. Got some 3 or 4 goals in 5 matches from this tip! Cheers Zealand!
Dude, you are the best! Just scored on a corner at 48th second in the first match after applying the routine. Also scored a goal on a throw-in for the first time ever in FM in the same match. Thanks!
I have been doing a save with Celta Vigo, I am a season and a half in and have never scored a corner on FM21, 19 minutes into the first match after rejigging my set pieces my attack near post scores! Brilliant stuff Zealand.
Excellent stuff. One thing I noticed today. For each role there is a list of attributes a player should score highly in. For the role Mark Keeper, you don’t need to be good at Marking.
You freaking legend! I had no clue you could go this in depth with set pieces in my Milan save even with Zlatan and Giroud I can’t remember scoring of set pieces watched this video tweaked some things and boom very next match score a header from a set piece
Wow!!! Just wow... I wasn't a believer, but after just one game, we scored two goals from long throws, the first time we've scored from a throw in ever!
I remember few FMs ago there was a brilliant corner trick, where you put all players on near post except one - with best long shots - who waited in front of penalty area. For some reason game AI completely ignored that lurking guy and if he had long shots at least ~13-14 you got yourself a top scorer :)
I watched this video two days ago .... yesterday I started new season with new set pieces smae that you advised... and guess what?..... first goal of season was from throw in ..... I played three matches so far and I have three goals from set pueces two from throw in and one from a corner .... this technique really took my set pieces to a higher level ..... thank you and happy new year 🎉
This is an absolute game changer. I'm managing Chelsea and I decided I needed a star CB so of course I went for De Ligt. But even with great set piece takers on my team, it's March and he hasn't scored. First game after watching this video, Fati scores the winner directly off a long throw in the get forward role. Next game, De Ligt scores from a long throw and two corners. Hakimi's long throw deflects back to him allowing a pin point cross for the assist. Another long throw draws a penalty as Abraham gets pushed in the box. I win 6-0, with 5 goals coming at least partially from set pieces. I'm legitimately in awe of how effective this tactic was immediately. You're the man Zealand
I started an unemployed ex-Semi Pro career and managed to get the Wigan job after relegation to English League 1 meant they'd sold off almost their entire squad. Signed the 18 year old Taylor Harwood-Bellis "The next Tony Adams" on loan from Man City and implemented this corner technique. Omfg does it work wonders! XD
I'm using these set piece tactics in FM21, in 1st season during pre-season i trained my team fully to my tactic, i also trained Corners everyday. I played 4 league matches,i'm using ''only critical chances'' setting for match engine, i used approximately 7-8 critical corners in these 4 matches, ZERO goal. I did exactly what you did in attacking corners (best header standing near post, second best header attacking near post etc.). Let's see what will happen in future matches...
I can't stress this enough, but you don't need 2 people at the back. Just try this out: if your corner is on the right side, leave the left full back with no instructions. He will lurk outside the corner of the box and catch any clearance because the ball normally drops on the opposite side of were the corner is taken. And he will have enough space to either cross again, shoot, or build up the play patiently. You really need to try this out!!!
Should save the Setpiece Routines and upload them for us poor plebs to download and use. I also still think for things like setpiece routines a big improvement SI could make to the game would be instead of using pitch positions is to allow us to specify players. Sure in Zealand's Corner tactic he has is DCL attacking the near post, because he says this is the Best Aerial Player. However what happens when that player is not being played in that position because squad rotation or lineup changes? You have to manually remember to go in and set the player's new position to fill that spot, so if for example he's playing in a match today as a DM, you need to change your tactic and put the DM on the attacking near post position. I think you should be able to fill positions at set pieces with a list like you do with throw ins, free kicks and corner takers, where you just drag players onto a position, and if they are on the pitch that is the position they will take up at the set pieces. This would let you correctly assign the correct players to the right places in the routines completely regardless of what position they are playing on that day.
I set up defending corners and throw ins leaving three players up top for the counter (both wingers wide open and my fastest striker down the middle, playing a 442 diamond wide). I have better than average headers, including one of my strikers, and my attacking midfielder will be on the edge of the box to collect rebounds and get the ball forward. I have received very few goals from corners (none from throw ins, I don't thing the AI do long throws very often) and I've scored a ton on the break, as the opposite teams usually leave two at the back.
Just used this for the first time and scored two goals from corners in a 3-0 win! interestingly the goals came from my NP (who got a brace) and NOT the LNR. Good routine this thanks!
Those corners are epic, got millwall promoted to the premier league in my first season with jake cooper grabbing 12 goals, 4 less than jed wallace my top scorer lmfao! Millwall are beasts with set pieces, 3 great set piece takers and jake cooper a 6 ft 6 beast with high heading
The biggest thing I learned was SAVE ALL SET PIECES. Been playing this game for 10 years and never realised you could just save a 442 set piece collection.
In the lower leagues in England, Chris Bush is pretty ordinary at left back (my 5th choice LB according to team report!) but he is 17 at long throws and gets loads of assists and thus a high average rating.
My Fiorentina save is kinda nightmarish right now. One of the club’s cultural expectations is “making the most of set pieces” and I haven’t scored a single set piece goal all season, despite having crazy aerial ability in the squad. Turns out I haven’t set anybody to lurk at near post. I thought they just kind of stood there. So my donnie attacking the near post was all alone out there. I feel so bad for him. I let the lads down. I’m sorry. I don’t deserve to manage at this level.
Might as well ask it here. In FM 20, how do I get my wingers to cross? Like seriously. They will take a shot from impossible angle (even with shot less often instruction) instead of crossing to a player in a goal scoring position. It actually ruins a game for me. Any tips on how to fix this?
@@tomedwards4292 I do that by default. But thank you for trying to help. I googled this, and it turns out that I am not crazy, they actually screwed up the wingers. I am now back in FM 2017. Training is still basic and it uses old tactics screen, but other then that, to me it is a superior FM. Plus it's ton of fun.
The set pieces work great, thanks a lot. Though in my experience with these corners the player who is attacking the near post scores most of the goals. Not that it would matter.
Just tried in my save. At the second game(After i've applied your tactic) against Salzburg in Champions League Manolas and Papetti scored 2 goals, Just like Dias. Napoli-Salzburg : 4-0(First two by set Pieces) 🙏🙏 Zealand the set Pieces God.
One of my defenders is 6'5", has 18 jumping reach, 18 strength, 17 heading, but dreadful pace and finishing. Is that good enough to go for the full aggressive setup mentioned at 7:40?
Does anybody know why players marking far and near post are utterly useless? A handful of times they clear the ball but I just had a guy stand there and his animation was frozen. watched the ball go right by his head and did nothing. This game needs a huge fix.
I have a question on this. Do your set piece takers have freedom to just ignore your instructions and aim elsewhere? Or if it's going into the middle rather than near post is that because your corner taker is just rubbish at corners? Reason I ask (rather predictably) is I've tried something similar to this in the National League North and regularly seeing corners going into the middle of the box rather than the near post.
The XG let's you understand how they balance the engine, aerial chances are kinda weird rn and u have to create a lot of opportunities just to score 1... 5-10 chances per match. If ur striker goes 1 on 1 in the box and misses, ur XG will shoot up by more than 0.1, whereas when a header is missed from a set piece, despite it happening near post/ penalty spot the XG gain is much smaller. Basically 5 excellent chances from ur best header = 1 or 2 chances from open play. I guess they struggle to balance our ability to easily exploit set pieces, so just make our odds lower. That's why your best header misses 5+ sitters per match. Tbh set pieces is my biggest disappointment for FM21, it was already overdue an overhaul for the last few seasons, and with the match engine making major leaps this year, I wish they'd cleaned up set pieces. Maybe this is worse for players like me, who micromanage. Even with saved set piece routines, if I rotate a few players that's every routine out of wack and a couple of them will no doubt be glitched. Need to sub mid match? I'm too lazy to check set pieces and bam my CB has changed markers, left the near post and they've scored. It's such a time sink and drains my enthusiasm to do what I really want to do, experiment with tactics and manage as realistically as the game will allow. Maybe next year covid could have scuppered some plans.
I still play FM21, but my 17 jumping and 15 heading CD isn't scoring in serie A with this tactic. My attack near post player scored 2 goals with these tactics in the last 15 games. I make sure before every game everything is set up right, but for some reason it isn't working for me. Even when I play my long throw in backs (18) and wingers that have high corner (17) abilities.
Is it me, am I doing something wrong? Or am I just statistically unlucky.. I play the matches myself and sometimes I simulate them and let my ass man do parts of the game. I played 5 or 6 games myself, didn't score any goals with this tactic (conceded on throw ins twice). When I simulated the rest of the games I scored twice with my attacking and not lurking near post player)
Can you get your assitant to do the set pieces? What if you let him do they training and you fix the schedule on week days. Will he still pick corner takers/free kick takers? And do the tactic for set pieces? I just think its so boring. #Zealand
I set up the set pieces like Zealand did and what do you think? 1.01 minutes into the first match I score a header from a throw in. Needless to say I was surprised as hell to see results that fast.
I accidentally set Toni Kroos to lurk near post in my long throw-ins routine. He's now my top scorer.
There are no accidents.

What is your taker's long throw attribute?
Train your taker with the “long flat throw” trait

Using 2 pacey players on EA defending corners results in a ton of chances for me. Much better than 1 EA + striker staying forward
I have Giroud and Andy Carroll as my rotation for my left ST. Needless to say they both have 20 goals this season off set pieces and rotate minutes

Eric Baily is a secret weapon! Who would have known!!
4:24 MMA didn't work out for dave.
So Zealand you can't apply the near post routine for fm 20?
Do other teams work you out? Ie putting their best marker/jumper at the near??? I hammered set pieces for a season... then the goal variance dried up.
