  • “How do you negotiate?” I finally have the answer! Well, a packed video full of tips and tricks to turn Football Manager into your stomping ground. FM20 has added even more layers to the ever-more-realistic negotiation dynamic inside it, so I knew this video would be a help to many more than usual. Unlike most of the things I talk about, negotiating cannot be avoided (unless you really love Directors), so these tips will raise all boats.
    FM is about setting yourself up for success. Financial stability allows you to do everything else in the game, negotiating is what directly contributes to this bottom line. Take your time learning, know your options, stay patient, then be decisive when you’re sure. Wonderkids await - or maybe your old captain stays for another year in a reduced role, either one can make or break a season. Long live the tips that hopefully help you get there!
    Much love as always,
    FM Senpai

    On contract renewals, especially with your top stars, on the first page you can select for their contract to start at the end of the season. Most players are normally happy with this and it means you've saved a decent chunk of money as you don't have to pay their new wage until the end of the season.

    One feature I find very useful when negotiating contracts with players from my club is clicking the "use current contract" button which will set everything to what it is at the moment so you can then kinda try to meet in the middle with your player and also make sure you are not increasing anything wildly. Also, keep in mind that if you're talking to an agent, they definitely care more about their fee than the player's loyalty bonus or sometimes even their wage, that's probably why he accepted Valentini's offer that easily haha

      I've not seen the whole vid so I might be jumping the gun:
      If you offer a player better terms than they're expecting they will accept quicker than otherwise. So if there's a player with lots of interest but no offers, or you don't want to risk being swooped out of nowhere putting in an 'above initial demands' offer (but still below true market value) can actually be better than the Levy approach in the right situation. This is particularly true in the case of bosman players or wonder kids who typically have a low asking wage (e.g. Asking for 300, give them 1000 to get the deal fast).

      1. Make sure your starting 11 are well rested and match fit (you can go to the responsibility screen under matches and set first team players that aren't match fit to be automatically available for your reserves and U19 so you your rotation players are always match fit)
      2. Try not to play players that don't enjoy big matches
      3. Try to play players with good determination, bravery, workrate
      4. If you know your tactic works don't change anything pre match even against stronger opposition
      5. Watching the first 10-15min in full highlights or comprehensive to see the pattern of attack and defence of both your team and the AI and then make adjustments if necessary
      6. Know that you could have done all of the above and still lose
      7. Pray to the FM gods

      9.) in the training tab/schedule you can select big match preparation , this is really good if your starting 11 isn't the most determined or composed for big matches, otherwise it's not THAT necessary.
      10.) if your team has been massively overachieving , use the press conferences to speak about not being complacent. If you are not on good terms with your squad, make sure you handle the conferences and just 'No Comment' any question

    20:29 cancelling previous lower offers for Stroud is fine but you also need to be aware of what he thinks. On his transfer page, it'll tell you who he prefers to join if any. Leaving him just the option to join Minsk will only work if he's open to the move or you go into the 'convince him to join' option (which is sketchy at best).

  • @NUFCSuraj

    just a little amendment which is worth mentioning: the player contract clauses do come out of your wage budget in a way. You can see when offering the contract what the 'wage budget contribution' is. It changes slightly depending on how high the bonuses/clauses are. I only know this because I was doing a lower league save where I needed to make use of every penny in my budget. I worked out the basic salary in my head for my transfers but it backfired because I hadn't counted in the bonuses which can add potentially 1k a week extra onto the wage budget contribution (a small figure to most clubs but it's a big deal when you're dealing with players on like 1.5k a week)

  • @simonspencer5159
    @simonspencer5159 4 года назад +1

    Great vid! One note though, when negotiating contracts the bonuses do come out of your wage budget, sort of. Depending on promised playing time and position a percentage of things like appearance fee, goal bonus and clean sheet bonus will be added to the wage budget cost of the player. So a Star Player forward with a wage of 10k per week, a goal bonus of 1k and an appearance fee of 2k would come with a wage budget cost of something like 12k per week. A squad player Defender with a wage of 10k per week, a goal bonus of 1k and an appearance fee of 2k on the other hand would come with a wage budget cost of only just over 10k per week.

    • @simonspencer5159
      @simonspencer5159 4 года назад

      Notice when negotiating with Rodriguez (Starter, forward) he wanted 1.02Mpa plus 3.9k appearance fee and 2.5k goal bonus your payroll budget cost was 1.18Mpa, around 3k per week more than just his wage, this extra 3k comes from the expected outlay from appearance fees and goal bonus.

  • @Thekowalonet

    I feel like u missed some things. Always, when you try to buy a player first offer should be 0$, when they counter just counter offer*0,498. Works 100%, but if they don't want to make a counter offer it means that they will only sell on 50-100% sell on fee, then offer like 60% and wait for counter offer if they still refuse to counter it means that they will probably only sell on sell on fee. Then you can try to unsettle the player. Also while loaning out you can make some extra $ by monthly fee. I've managed to get even up to 10 mln from loans, then after season you can sell that player for even more. When negotiating contracts you can offer rise after 1 international cup and you can save about 30% of diffrence between original wage and rise, but I would say that this one is an exploit.

  • @OCDean73
    @OCDean73 4 года назад +5

    19:22 setting a player as unavailable for loan doesn't stop clubs asking to take him on loan, it just reduces it a little. You have to also set it to 'reject all loan offers' for some stupid reason

  • @V8Murder
    @V8Murder 4 года назад

    I have a random tip, if you make a counter offer and they aren't playing ball, look at the text top left, it's happened before that the agent says "things will go a lot smoother if you give my client such and such." Basically, they seem to sometimes prioritize one or two aspects of the contract and it can be easy to miss and overpay.

    I always remove unused sub fees, lock in promotion wage rise at a limit of 10 or 15%, no more than 10% yearly wages rise for younger players.
    When selling players (younger), 50% of profit on next transfer is locked in from the first negotiation.
    Over a 5 year period, I might have one year where I spend more on transfers than I make, but I'll generally only make a signing if I don't already have a kid coming through who I think could step-up, or I'm buying the finished article to move up that next level once I'm already in the top flight (otherwise it's free agents and experienced cast-offs from bigger clubs).

    "All of these other bonuses are not counted in your wage budget"
    I used to think this but I don't think it's true. If you adjust the bonuses, you'll see the "Payroll Budget Cost" change. It even takes into account the playing time agreement, so a Star Player will see greater impact in the payroll budget for appearance fee compared to unused sub fee. This is opposite for an impact sub or fringe player.
    I have found this useful for knowing how much I need to adjust the appearance fee bonus to make up for a reduction in the guaranteed contract for players that I maybe don't want to pay as much if they're not playing (often injury prone ones!). Of course, because the bonuses aren't guaranteed, they are less persuasive and I often need to "over spend." But the wage budget does seem to take the player game bonuses into account from my experience.
    I haven't noticed any shifts for things like milestone goals or end of season achievements however.

    Players also show what they think of their potential next club. So I get offers in for a player and I accept those offers but my player is like I want to go to team X. Now specially if that player your selling had a good contribution but he does not fit the standard anymore I do look at it and even be willing to accept a lower offer. I had this on my Nottingham Forrest save. I had a player played 2 good years for us but did not meet the standard anymore so I sold him. I had two offers, one from Blackburn and one from Bristol City. He told me he was very interested in going to Bristol City. They offered a half mil less then Blackburn but he had been a good servant to the team so accepted it. Another thing is I get a loan offer in I accept and two other teams do a loan offer for the same player. I accept the one I think is best but I stall the other two. In case the first deal fails you still have the other two to fall back on.

      The only issue is I usually have to wait more than 2 years because the paperworks usually take 70 days which means I don’t have time to register them.

    You have some great advice in this video but I will say that the optional future fees are very stupid to put in. It basically just scares away some clubs so you get fewer bidders and you have ZERO gain from putting it in. If he plays great and his value goes sky high then it’s much better to just sell him after his loan is over to the highest bidder.

    Do you have any tips for pulling off loan deals for players that are not listed for loan by their club, ie. fringe players/squad players that aren't getting the game time they want. Lots of players are reportedly 'very interested' in joining the club on loan but the club most of the time seems to automatically reject bids if the player is not a youth player. Is there anyway to convince clubs to loan you a player and is there anyway you can tell if the player would be allowed to go on loan before you make an offer?

      It’s always possible to ship a player out of the club if you anger him enough. If there’s a player you sense won’t move clubs then simply put him in the reserves or youth team. If he’s a first team player then he’ll get so mad that he’ll accept pretty much any club that can afford him.

    Sometimes I've tried increasing the agent fee without any others, wondering if the agent's self-interest will make them influence the player signing but as I can tell, it makes no difference.

      I did it with a player. The agent wanted like 250k and the player wanted around 90k a week. The max I could offer was 69k and I just upped the agent fee and loyalty bonus to 2.1m each. He ended up accepting at that wage without adding many more clauses. It's also helpful because the more you pay an agent, the more he likes you so it can give you a good relationship with them and make future demands with his clients cheaper.

    • @speleokeir
      @speleokeir 4 года назад

      Forget the star rating, it's largely meaningless. It mainly relates to how good he is compared to existing players in your team. For instance you may have a four or five star player then get promoted bring in some new players and see that his star rating has dropped even though his ability is the same or has even improved but because the standard of players in your team has improved he doesn't rate as highly as before. Look at his current stats and if he's under 23 his potential to improve.
      If you're having trouble finding a decent full back search for players with the sorts of stats you want and consider training him to become a fullback.

  • @corpse6193
    @corpse6193 4 года назад

    12:40 some things - you should always shave off a bit from agent's fee and lock it. Here the agent should gladly accept 40K instead of 46.5K, probably you could take it a bit further (and often it will be more impactful that measly 6.5K). As long as you are not pushing it too far, this should not affect your relation with the agent negatively. When it comes to appearance fees and other bonuses, they are in a certain ratio to the base salary, based on the playing time and differing from league to league (though I'm not certain about the latter). I think it's a good practice to calculate these ratios and stick to them to have a better framework for the wage structure that you want to put in place.
    15:40 You mostly don't want to sign youngsters to one-year deals, especially the ones with no reputation, like this guy (mostly guys that expect one-year deals have no reputation whatsoever). After going to your team, their reputation rises, and the next deal you will have to offer them may be significantly more costly. On top of that you have zero control over their future, which is never a nice thing.
    One weird thing you may come across is when you suggest a different playing time is that for some players this will mean demanding more money and for some this will mean taking less or forgoing (not demanding) some of the bonuses (like the 20-goal-a-season bonus for the striker if he is a regular starter instead of important player). I guess this is based on the reputation, the players with a high reputation won't want to ride the bench and will demand more money for that and the players with lower reputation will accept the fact that their new, bigger club sees them differently and modify their expectations accordingly.

    • @frederikbrandt424
      @frederikbrandt424 4 года назад

      I highly disagree with your agent stance. Usually I find it a good idea to pay the agent as much as possible because their demands usually give you a lot of leverage which makes it possible to lower the players salary more. Since the agent wants less the impact is usually bigger by giving the agent 100k more in total than giving the player 25k more per year, which will ultimately lead to wasting more money.
      Pay the agent and make him happy, his demands are peanuts compared to what the player wants, there are far more important things to lock in such as years or removing future sell on fees/release clauses.

    • @corpse6193
      @corpse6193 4 года назад

      @@frederikbrandt424 As I stated, he will gladly accept it and it won't impact your relations. I'm not advocating for pushing it to the limit, but you can and you should trim it off a bit. Handing agent more money won't make him accept any offer you give to a player in the future, it mostly impacts his own demands. Everytime you engage in negotiations with an agent who likes you (and ones who I treat like I mentioned before do like me), they state, that because of the positive relation, they are willing to take less money for their services

    • @frederikbrandt424
      @frederikbrandt424 4 года назад

      Corpse I’m saying that I give the agent extra money so I then can cut a bit of the wages in that same negotiation, that’s how I’ve done it. Especially at a big club 500k extra is nothing compared to the salaries the players get. So rather than paying the agent 50k and the player 60k per week I give the agent 1m and the player 55k per week. It saves money in the long run.

    I play fm19 so i don't know will it works on FM20. You can actually trick the player's agent to make him respectful of you and get like the best deal ever right from the start. Find other players that the agent has ( really low value unknown players) buy them or approach to sign and accept the contract IMMEDIATELY( he will think working with you is easy and build up the relationship ) around 6-7 players like that and you will hit the maximum relationship. ( he is respectful of you or s.th) then offer the main target for contract, after you are done you can cancel all of the others 6-7 shitty decoy. The agent will hate you alright but the deal is already done and you lose nothing , you can even try to rebuild the relationship next time by doing the same thing but with like 13-14 players to make him from hate you to respect you . It can potentially save up like 50% all across the board.

I tested carefully , it just take a little bit time though.

    Locking the wage contribution in loan offers feels limiting to me. I often get loan offers where clubs won't go over 20% of the wages, but happily agree to monthly fees of 20 times the wage total. Why take 100% wages if you can get much more than that on a monthly basis?

    • @speleokeir

      I go for both. 100% wage AND a big monthly fee. If I'm not getting offers then I remove the lock on the monthly fee. Of course it also depends on what the wages are. For instance if it's a youth player his wages might be tiny so it's not a big deal, but if he's on high wages it is.

    If you know the player wont feature in your first team, just tell him that he can have a lot of money if he plays x amount of first team games.
