How to Read a Birth Chart: Identifying the Basic Components

- In this video I provide an overview of some of the different components of a birth chart, and show you how to identify the main features in the default natal chart diagram from Astro.com.
The purpose of the video is not how to interpret these placements, but instead the first step is just learning how to identify them, and figure out what exactly the chart diagram from Astrodienst is showing you.

@The Astrology Podcast This is just superb, I've been looking for "what does a natal chart tell you?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Riyharlotte Cerebral Rule - (search on google ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to discover your destiny using your cosmic natal chart minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got excellent results with it.

@@heyyou6830 Dotted green lines are the quincunx aspect, and smaller dotted lines in black are other minor aspects. Mainly important to focus on the major aspects indicated by the blue and red lines.
It doesn't let me use whole sign for house.

Question- scientifically how do planets affect personality? I used to be very interested in this type of stuff but I don't know if it's true I definitely think my personality is very accurate based on my placements but it could be a coincidence 😎👍

@@kingadjust6201 There is no such thing as “scientifically” within astrology. Astrology is not recognized as a science. But as an astrologer I can say that placement of planets in signs do HUGELY affect personality, especially those of personal planets and luminaries (sun, moon and internal planets - Mercury, Mars and Venus). Signs AND house placements define a huge part of your personality. With social (Jupiter and Saturn) and transpersonal planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) houses and aspects to personal planeta usually give more info than signs, since those planets are slow and your whole generation has the same placements. Do not forget the axes: rising sign and Midheaven are very relevant, and any planet conjunct there has a much bigger impact than other planets in your chart. Some astrologers we do also apply this criteria to the nodes

Hi Chris! Lots of great info. Can you (in a future video) explain about the North and South Node. I know the North Node is supposed to be your "reason/what you should be doing in life" (I think), but what about the South Node? I'm also interested in knowing more about the rising and descendant signs.

Yes! This is so informative and easy to follow. I've been watching tons of videos trying to learn to read a chart, but all of them pretty much talk about what things mean (ie, mercury in Aries) rather than how to read an actual chart.

My question that I've been wondering for YEARS: Every time I search houses, I get he same info: '1-aries-self, 2-taurus-possessions, 3-Gemini-Communications' etc. but what I'm really looking for is this, say in this instance, house one is obviously located on sagittarius. But I thought Aries is always the 1st house? So in this case what do you do? Is Sagittarius now the 1st house of self and Aries now the 5th house of pleasure?

Question, so does the degree determine how much power each planet has within that zodiac sign?
Power ? No. more so how it expresses it’s energy. Earlier degrees usually have a younger energy; and there are also decans which add an additional influence. No placement is more “powerful” according to degree
Traditional Astrology uses the Essential Dignities of planets to assess the strength or debility of a planet in a chart. I find that this technique much more useful than just focusing on a particular degree of the Zodiac, especially it depends on whether you use the tropical zodiac or the sidereal zodiac. Useful authors are Kevin Burke, John Frawley, and Lee Lehman. Kevin Burke's videos here on RUclips explain the technique clearly. My chart really began to make sense when I used this technique, as it explains the freedoms and limitations a particular planet has in its sign placement. Why this is important is that like icing in an icing bag is shaped by the nozzle used in the bag, how a planet expresses itself is shaped by the sign. Generally, planets with Dignity have more freedom of expression and can do more, notwithstanding any aspects it receives. So, Jupiter in Sagittarius or in Pisces, is more expansive, enthusiastic and adventurous, as it is the traditional Ruler of the Sign. Jupiter can get more done and has more influence in the personality in these signs. In contrast, Jupiter is in Fall, the most severe type of debility in the signs Gemini and Virgo. Jupiter's status in these signs is of an subject ruled by and over by Mercury. Literally, Mercury will lord it over Jupiter, and the expansive energy of Jupiter will be misplaced or misdirected in the areas ruled by Mercury. Most, clearly Kevin Burke's analogy of the planet's being members of the board of directors running your existence. The comparative Dignity or Debility of each planet defines their ability to set the agenda of your life. The most dignified planet will be the Chairman of the Board, and the other planets will either go along with that agenda because that planet is the final depositor of all the planets in the chart, or there may be several planets who are also just as strong and the board will have power struggles when setting the agenda. When we look at the future, the movement of the planets through the signs in a progressed chart, will see the power balance shift. Planets become stronger or weaker as they move through the signs, and your agenda follows those flows and ebbs, as aspects show who or what is aligned and working together or in conflict. It is a pretty significant component, so I'd try as hard as you can to find it if at all possible

My chart aspects are all triangles...there are no squares. All my aspects are smushed together so it’s hard to see what’s connected; my chart is super condensed compared to yours which is spaced out across the charts. How do I go about trying to read this more clearly?
