  • Film review of some of the elements in the film Power Of Chi where world champion athletes and UFC fighters strength and stability is tested against the power of internal Taiji skill ! With Morgan Freeman giving us some of his famous commentary about what's happening.
    I'm reviewing and discussing the segment with world strong man champion Brian Shaw who has been instructed to not let Taiji Master Adam Mizner move him and then being subsequently surprised at the power a man much smaller than him can have over his balance and stability just by using his Qi to displace him.
    You can watch the full film at : thepowerofchi.com

    I used to use this party trick after 1 year of Tai Chi. It's real but it doesn't make Mizner good that he knows the very basics of the art. Frankly it's sad that this is what they're showing off.

    no bro, I followed you up to 9:24 and it was all right to have an interesing demo of internal taichi training. But after that, your conclusions on fighting, bro, they're complete bullshit. Mr Mizner woudnt stand a chance against a trained fighter. He'll go down broken legs after two rounds on low kicks, and maybe strangled on submission after a hook combo. It's so obvious, he would not know how to move, where to be and when to act. Stay on your ground and sell your art for what it is: meditation, healing, breathing and core strength. Differently, go in a cage with Jon Jones and prove your fantasy

      Honestly mate, don’t waste your time.
      There’s a reason Tai Chi isn’t used at all high level of combat sports and training, because as you rightly said, it doesn’t work. If it did, we’d see it in action.
      We all know it, these tai chi guys know it deep down but they’ll live on delusion that is has credible use in a fight - even though the only evidence we have is tai chi masters getting beaten by hobbyist Muai Thai and MMA Hobbyists.
      I wouldn’t recommend you waste your time as you’re just talking to a brick wall. I’ve literally had a Tai Chi practitioner tell me they can beat someone if they have more ‘sun/san/song’ or whatever it was. Completely dreamland and fallacy and honestly not worth your time. They’re literally in cult mentality land.
      All the best

      (He would be like the Juggernaut character from the X-man comic books.)
      We do have examples of kung fu men over the last three hundred years who made real progress. Adams progress is what I aspire to, but it is not, in my opinion, the be all and end all of internal development. There are many different avenues of progress one may take. If you could be an X-man which one would you be? Many different Jin's one can develop, the important thing is the development of our mind. Kung-fu is deep.

    Thank you. I look forward to Heaven Man Earth doing a seminar in Vienna Austria sometime this year. (Please) After 45 years of chasing Tai Chi it is about time my own skills deepen. There are really only a small handful of teachers on the planet that teach to the public. We are lucky to know of them. If you don't believe in this sort of thing too bad for you. Such skills are real, but just because you trained for ten years does not mean you made progress. Practicing "internal martial arts" and developing kung-fu are two different things. The onion of our being has many deeper levels. Don't give up. The only thing thats stopping you is your thinking. Good luck. Looking forward to you guys paying us a visit. (The worst thing that could happen to you here is you might get fat. 😆) All the best.

    as a practitioner of internal arts, i can tell you there are a few misconceptions about chi that create this sort of dichotomy amongst observers. one side believes in magical chi, the other thinks its BS. but chi is neither magical nor BS, just miscommunicated and lost in translation. i wont sit here and explain it all but suffice it to say if most westerners truly understood what the chinese word chi is meant to convey, they would know chi is real but not magical. one side note about abilities that may seem to be magical, they are simply internal skills trained to mastery, as an example Brian shaw would be considered a master at what he does, and if we werent accustomed to strong men, some may not be able to comprehend his power, and thus label it magical or extraordinary. Theres so much more involved here but ill let anyone ask the questions they may have

      I wonder: what is your definition of magic? Everyone is so keen on claiming that none of it is "magic", but nobody every says what that magic would mean and how it is different from "normal". If magic means "outside the mechanical paradigm", then much of modern physics is plain magic.

    • @agelessone
      @agelessone 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@brucefree8 magic is simply the placeholder word for the force we have yet to discover, behind the phenomena we are observing. like most words it can be context specific, but its general use is a placeholder. from that perspective nothing is truly magical, yet everything is. I didnt use the word "normal" but that would be a force we have discovered and understand already behind the phenomena we are observing. though physics the way you put it could be percieved as magic, the main difference for me, is the physical practice that goes into attaining forces like chi versus the accumulation of information on the subject of attaining forces like chi.

    On the 4min 25 mark. Mate, you can draw many lines on the ground. The one I would draw would be between Brian's legs and towards the third invisible bar stool....you know the direction Adam is vectoring to. It's a parlour trick, mate, and you drawing those lines is, in my view, designed to deceive and mislead. I don't know why this BS anger annoys me so much. Scratch that, I know precisely why. It is because it has lies and deception at its base and all in the pursuit of MONEY and FAME.

    You suggested he used no technique other than mobilizing Chi. I noticed he used many techniques like you would find in Wing Chun that have not too much to do with chi. It's noticing movement, angles and force. I am sure he is using Chi practises though I do not agree that he used no techniques other than mobilizing chi.

    • @heavenmanearthperth325
      @heavenmanearthperth325  Год назад

      Yes you are right. He was definitely following the subtleties of the angles of force etc. I meant he wasn't using fighting techniques as such. Or a lot of the push hands techniques that are used to gain advantage, like taking their back, etc.

    • @Moodymongul
      @Moodymongul Год назад +1

      imho. He was 'in control' of Brian ..from before they touched hands ;)
      Then, a lot of defeating force using angles just off that line of force.
      Adam's structure was in that classic 'relaxed, but tense' state (often descibed as 'relaxed', when in reality there is subtle tension). So he was connected to the floor, in a way Brian was not. And could therefore push/pull Brian at will.
      At no time (really) was Adam in a bad position. Rather, it was Brian that was always in a weaker position. But, Brian never knew :)

    • @eclipsewrecker
      @eclipsewrecker Год назад

      @@Moodymongul it bothers me. Not because I’m against what’s being shown, but because what’s being implied is dishonest (whether intentional or not).
      It’s a demo trick.
      -tell them what you want them to do and to avoid
      -appear to do one thing and use whatever is necessary to accomplish the end results.
      This is charlatan setup 101. Control as much as possible.
      I would like to pay the guy a couple compliments still, or at least acknowledge his high level of skill: in both 1)his feel and understanding of the planes of balance, and for 2) his use of manipulation/suggestion/influence.
      Very art of war. That’s what he should be teaching.

    When Adam is pushing on this mountain look closely at his hands he is not just pushing the guy he is setting him up with a drawing/ leading motion then confusing his system by reversing the direction with a push, Mark Rasmus explains the technique here. ruclips.net/video/oSKlxpyynkU/видео.html&ab_channel=SifuMarkRasmus

    • @eclipsewrecker
      @eclipsewrecker Год назад

      Yeah it’s not what’s being sold. There are important principles at play here that are legit. And by the way: the square stance is stronger, but not balanced for the lateral plane; which the pusher does not need worry about with the implied parameters.
      I’ve never seen a boxer use a jump rope demo to demonstrate his boxing.

    • @EliteBlackSash
      @EliteBlackSash Год назад

      Exactly. He is leading him, and therefore he is one step behind. And therefore he is not really focused on moving or not being moved by Adam, but rather he is focused on keeping up with his movement. He says it himself, “When YOU’RE doing it, I’m thinking… how is this happening.” Against the second guy, he is focused because there is no leading just force against force.
      It’s a sort of a skill, but not to be confused with something you can actually used against a trained grappler - or if The Mountain simply was angry and steamrolling forward, ignoring his feedback.
      In Chinese or Mongolian Wrestling, you see guys beat other guys triple their weight often. And this sort of leading is used often, you lead in order to get his mass moving and then you redirect at the last moment. The claim is that he is demonstrating Chi, in reality he is demonstrating Timing.
      Another example is Tui Shou Chen vs Marcelo Garcia. That video demonstrates that Tai Chi has great stand up skill to be learned. However, once Marcelo starts pressuring forward and reaping the legs, it’s a different story. And that is against one of the most winning Tai Chi World Champions in Push Hands. To the point they literally renamed him “Tui Shou” (Push Hands) Chen lol
      Context is always the problem with Traditional Martial Arts demos. It’s not the technique, it’s the context in which the person is giving it. It’s like saying, pulling the other hand to your hip generates more power or a scorpion tail kick is for stopping a rear attack. Both are for grappling. Outside of that context it becomes ridiculous.

    There's an inconsistency here.
    3:51 - "Brian wasn't asked to push on Adam. He was asked to not let Adam push him."
    7:07 - Against someone else, Brian starts pushing - even leaning forward. His fists jolted forward once he lost contact - indicating that he was pushing back hard.
    So... those are two completely different experiments. There's no Control Group at all.

      Okay I'll say it another way. Brian's job in that partner exercise was to hold his ground, which he couldn't do. Then the contrast is very easily seen when he is able to hold his ground very easily against the fencer.

      Hi Steve, the solo elements of the training are the most important aspect. That is what creates the transformation and where the real benefits are. The partner training serves as a feedback to further correct and improve your solo training. Then of course for martial skill partner training is important. But for the most valuable rewards of what this art brings it is all in the solo training so go for it.

As in person learning is also invaluable for getting specific personal corrections. Or attend a workshop. Might even meet you at one some time. If so come and say hi. From Julius.

      @@heavenmanearthperth325 sifu Julius thanks for information. It's alot to take on, I'm still looking into it. The thing is i wanted to start using my gym i just bought and i lift alot of weights at work in everyday life but yet Adam tells us we can't go home and do press ups because it will ruin the training, so I'm very confused. I've been looking at sifu Mark Rasmus also and he's talking about doing exercises with weights so yes I'm very confused at this point. If I'm going to do this i want to be the best! Thanks sifu Julius 👊

      @@stevehulbert4690 It just comes down to what is important to you. Lifting weights will counter the Taiji training to the degree that you do it. You could compromise by doing less of it. Lifting weights creates contraction which will shorten the muscles and tissue whereas in Taiji we want to open the joints and open and lengthen the tissue to then be able to conduct Qi through the fascia. But that can't happen when the muscles are seized or contracted. So yes lifting will go against that process of transforming the body that is a requirement for internal Taiji skill. But in the end you have to do what you like to do. It just depends on what you want from it. Lifting will give you isolated hard force in different parts of your body and make you look good in summer. Over time Taiji will give you full body internal power, martial skill, great health and spiritual development. Neither are right or wrong, life is just about priorities and choice. Then we become the result of those choices.

    Two totally different examples. First guy is pushing the big guy and he's in turn pushing back no way he can push the big guy back head on. I guarantee you if the tai chi guy did the same he would also fail. The difference is the tai chi guy pulls and pushes the big guy in opposite direction putting him off balance by using his weight against him as the big guy tries to steady himself doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what he is doing lol

      That's what this documentary is all about: showing that this is real. If certified multiple MMA champions and a strongest man in the world champion tell you it's real, but you still don't believe it... You need to go try for yourself.
