In fact, I forgot to translate this, but part of the reason Xu was able to get the Master to show up was he put up some money. He basically told Master Gu: if you can beat a student of mine, you get 100,000 RMB of money. So Xu basically put up the money he was saving for his arm surgery to get the Master to show up. he wanted to test his art, and he took away a lesson from it. I give that Tai Chi master mad respect, he was humble and confident even when he was losing, he also seemed thankful to be allowed the opportunity to test his martial art
Notice how quickly the tai chi guy changed his stance. He starts copying the MMA guy half way through the match. I think that stance works well because its so intuitive and makes good use of the body's movement.
It’s the fact that nobody learns taiji’s actual combat anymore because so many people are obsessed with theory and fantasy other than actual combat and lose, I’m a practitioner of Wudang wushu or Wudang taiji and Wudang Quan, and I know it works but I don’t fight like people think it is used. I use it with common sense. Every martial art has there strength and weakness. That is why we must mix styles together and create our own mma. People mistake mma as specific style but in reality it is a idea of multiple styles, that is why Bruce Lee’s philosophy Jeet Kune do is the father of MMA because it was the first idea of mixing styles
@tom3413 for real, RUclips is full of cringy comments or videos about street fights and how you can never prepare for one. Then what follows is pseudo expert conversations about nothing but romantic ideas of what a street fight is lmao. Also always at least one guy who makes a ‘no one can defeat my gun’ comment. About football players I do think they can make decent fighters though. I played rugby only a couple of trainings and that gave me an edge against my non fighting trained friends. Jon jones even said that he’s lucky his football pro brother never joined the ufc or it would have been over for him. I’m Not saying there aren’t football players that overestimate their abilities but they have potential imo. There’s a lot of people who overestimate themselves. Have seen footage of soldiers poorly fighting civilians on the street in their day off. False confidence is everywhere. On the other hand potential is everywhere as well. Have seen footage of cricket players fighting really well on the streets in self defense.
I met Xu a number of times - and the Leech and Jiang Wei Li too. Trained with them at a few seminars. Hung out a bit, did a few dinners at restaurants etc. I'm surprised Xu is still alive, it was pretty scary there for a while. He himself was quite sure the CCP was gonna take him out. Great to see he's doing well.
Well there's not such thing in China called CCP, that name only exists in the west. Westerners are pretty clueless when it comes to China. China isn't the way the media makes it out to be. Maybe Xu Xiaodong realized his initial approach wasn't working and he matured up. MMA market will grow in China but it will be slow.
Traditional martial arts from China have been obsolete. Why do you think Bruce Lee abandoned them 60 years ago and incorporated more western boxing in his fighting style?
No thats not how it works, he learned tmd first that is his foundation before creating his own JKD. Essentially you have to start somewhere, you have to understand core principles before you start applying them and developing them.
great to hear xu has become more diplomatic. this is the correct approach. when the facts are on your side, the fastest resolution is patiently and methodically working through the issues. younger people trying to navigate these conflicts tend to look for a quick solution, while also failing to realise they're not very good at negotiation. they also tend to be unnecessarily defensive, which manifests as aggression and fake confidence. xu has realised that he's holding all the cards, and it's a lot more fun to be nice to people
His skills were obviously not what he thought they were. But respect to the older gentleman for getting in there and testing himself and his art. Takes guts.

They should go gloveless, as the gloves give an advantage to the boxer for both blocking, and hand protection; it would likely still go down the same way, but it would show technique vs technique more readily. The self defense version of boxing is bare knuckle, and requires different techniques so you don't break your hands, which happens to a lot of boxers outside of the ring.
Without practice the boxer will break his hands but still demolish the opponent, hitting him full strength with broken hands. I have seen it. Boxers hands will heal but its bad for the boxers career. Opponents face will be every shade of purple you can imagine and very bloody.

Tai chi is an aerobic exercise…. It has nothing to do with fighting - it doesnt matter how good his ‘form’ is… the body mechanics are fundamentally flawed and will always end up losing to any conventional western fighting style… boxing and wrestling are true MA, everything else was MA fantasy with no context - For reference the boxer wasnt very good either… he was squared up 80% of the time, bad footwork, fell over himself and smothered his work - but the tai chi guy is so helpless… ive trained 12 year olds who could probably smoke this guy, honestly ive trained 15 year olds that will take out any guy trying to do tai chi - even with the correct ‘form’ - absolutely smashed.
I really wanted to see the original opponent fight him, he looked so offended that the so called tai chi master didn't want to fight an "older man" even though he himself is about the same age.
Semi draw? Basically he had the fight end with the timer running out just as Tyson was about to deal a killing blow -- he practically gave Tyson the win.
Ip Man lost in that movie. Tyson uppercut would have killed him whereas that flick kick to Tyson’s groin would have just given Tyson temporary pain (if it even struck the right place). Slack in pants can block groin kicks. Even kicking the wrong area of the groin would negate the kick.

A person who’s never been punched in the face before are usually in shock mode, and are either in fight or flight response, or don’t have the mental strength to continue. And this is from a jab. If someone was rocked from a punch, forget it. It’s 100% mental and emotional after that. The feeling is you don’t know if you’re gonna survive or not. In reality, people do. It’s just the mental challenge of feeling your brain vibrating is scary.

The other guy was too gentle by letting him rest while the referee wasn't stopping it. The master doesn't know how a fight works, or any tipe of combat. Imagine realizing that your entire career has ben so delusional.
I've never seen any of those ''masters'' display the ''mastery'' of their styles even in demonstration. Why do we call them masters? To make videos more catchy and viral? The quality of the defeated gives meaning to the victory. Where's the quality? If I show up and claim to be a master will I be on the next video? Why is there never any evidence of the lineage, the schools where they teach, the credentials, videos of demonstrations etc?

I am being honest when I say the master looks as though he is a random man from the street, I saw no martial arts being used. I watch plenty of content where westerners are in China showing how amazingly futuristic it has become, very safe too, now I mention this because you spoke of giving gifts, no I heard it is not polite to offer someone the small gift of a tip, I heard it is in a way suggesting you think the person needs money, that they have less than you and many take it as an insult, can you tell me more about it please? I'm also trying to understand some of the cultures for when I visit.
tips to employees performing their duties can be considered an insult, to them and the business they work for. it can be misconstrued as thinking the business doesn't pay them enough. people take pride in their jobs and have some level of loyalty to their employer. so they could be insulted by a tip. tips are not gift giving though. you don't "give a gift" in return for goods a service.
If a Westerner is filming in China it hightly positive that they are being monitored by the CCP, there literally a video breaking down each time a CCP member appear in a video film by Westerner.
I predict Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul will be a less conclusive fight than expected. A couple big conditions not being talked about much: the fight will be only 8 two-minute rounds; and they will be using big ol' 14 oz. gloves.
It's a freakshow fight and there's now way to predict it, which is the entire appeal. 2 minute rounds favor Tyson and 14oz gloves favor Paul. Tyson is obviously juiced to the gills. It's basically a fight between Paul and how much Tyson's reflexes and stamina have decayed(enormously) at age 57. Paul is basically fighting a name. The guy he's actually fighting doesn't have anything to do with the boxer Mike Tyson from 1986. I'm going to say 95% chance Paul wins a boring decision with a 5% chance Mike knocks him out in round 1 or two, with a 65% chance that I'm totally wrong. I don't think Paul will actually try to KO Tyson. People don't give Paul enough credit. Strip away his obnoxious personality and he's a green, cruiserweight prospect, which I think is still enough to beat an ancient Tyson. The quality of Paul's opponents are better than what most 10 fight boxers have faced.
Taichiguy has my respect for showing the worriors quality of not giving up easy. Being 50 he still has the chance to improve his actual fightingskkills to an average level or be honest with his own art and clear about its capabilities.

They should go gloveless, as the gloves give an advantage to the boxer for both blocking, and hand protection; it would likely still go down the same way, but it would show technique vs technique more readily. The self defense version of boxing is bare knuckle, and requires different techniques so you don't break your hands, which happens to a lot of boxers outside of the ring.

it will be a tie.
This is like a Tyson vs. Paul. Young guy vs a senior citizen
Taichiguy has my respect for showing the worriors quality of not giving up easy. Being 50 he still has the chance to improve his actual fightingskkills to an average level or be honest with his own art and clear about its capabilities.
I doubt many of these masters have any practical experience, They think just because they have mastered the techniques they can jump in a ring and beat people.
Thats why in some martial arts schools, getting a black belt is only the start of the journey, meant to signify someone has learnt all the moves, but not skills.
Glad Xu is agreeing to such rules to accommodate "masters" that never trained for ground and pound. Levels the playing field.
If you want to be a professional fighter there is no excuse in the modern world, Join an MMA Academy a warrior always has an open mind and is willing to learn effective techniques.
Yeah effective techniques within a ruleset. People forget that martial arts came from war. From fighting for your life. Not sport where you try to flex your ego over someone else and try to be the best for short while.
@@ch5477 You know UFC 1, 2,3,4, 5 there's no rules right ?
@@ch5477, so you’re telling me that those professional mma fighters won’t tear apart most people in a street fight? Get real. Besides, war nowadays is fought with fire arms, bombs, etc. Hand to hand is almost never used.
I appreciate Xiaodong's new friendly attitude. While his victories might be less satisfying now, it's more respectful towards his opponents and will benefit him in the long run
It looked like the younger guy wasn’t too serious to fight, he was kinda bored of playing with his toy 😂😂😂
"Beat Mike Tyson". Not sure about that even using an sniper rifle.
Probably won't be able to carry the rifle lmaoooo
I practise taichi, but I also practise boxing, I practise kungfu forms, I also practise kicking as a system, and also practise very basic grappling. This Tai Chi master fails to realise he is in the wrong rule set. The training of each has different benefits. But trained together, each one is elevated by the others. None is better than the other, they support each other.
perfect answer
Agreed. He didn't even do bad in the beginning, and made a lot of contact first.
Really, I feel like he was just inexperienced. He did a great job for a guy stepping in the ring and putting on gloves for the first time.
If you're 50 or older, no matter how strong you are, you can't match the energy and speed of younger people. That's just reality.
Unless you're a freak like Randy Couture
Paul vs Tyson is likely a celebrity joke match like McTapper vs Mayweather, so we should expect a draw or decision finish. If it is real, Tyson wins by KO or TKO in the later rounds.
Tai Chi master hasnt hurt a fly in his life !! 😂
Tai chi has its fighting style. Putting gloves on is like you tie a taekwondo master's legs and hope that he will win when fighting with a boxer. That's insane.
He offered the guy to not wear gloves though. Taiji dude figured he could make it happen and he was wrong.
No kicks, no take-downs, and no ground-fighting, LOL…might as well just play a game of chess.
its a boxing match, why would you watch boxing ans whine and moan like a baby about them not doing MMA? Your comment would have equal validity if you were watching a chess match and you said "nO gRoUnDWrok, nO kiCks, nO TakEDowNs, mAy aS WeLl PlAy PoKEr"
@@dorianleakey since when have Taiji masters done boxing?
@@Averagebum21 ok, I think you are deliberately talking past what I said, never mind
@@dorianleakey how so? This challenge was on the superiority of Taiji over MMA, or the superiority of MMA over Taiji, nothing to do with boxing. Your example of a chess challenge was irrelevant because chess games don’t involve kicks, take-downs or ground work, but Taiji involves at least the first two.
Master looking great in diapers.
Respect to Tai Chi Master. He got balls to come in and test himself.
You can tell for the first 20 seconds Xu's student has his hands up, chin tucked and is carefully feeling out the Tai Chi Master.
Once he ate a couple of the Tai Chi Master's best shots and got a knock down against Tai Chi Master he just goes into play mode.
He knows Tai Chi Master can't hurt him and he can get whatever he wants.
His hands go down, chin in the air and just swinging freely (still nice footwork and head movement).
The clinches where his hands are at his side throwing wild hooks to the body would be punished by an instant uppercut or hook to the head by any 1st year boxing student, but he knows he's got nothing to fear.
The Tai Chi Master had good instincts to clinch each time he was getting lit up.
I give the Tai Chi Master credit for taking this fight even if it required potential money pay out.
He didn't show Xu or the student any disrespect and took his lumps and as others have stated has hopefully learned something valuable...
