Another crackin' video, mate.Always makes me day when I get a notification that you have a new vid posted. I really enjoy all your content, but especially your TD5 stuff. It's always really informative, and you make it look so easy, mate.Best hours telly I've watched in a while, much appreciated 👏👏👍
Thanks mate, it means a lot to me too hear that pal 😃 I enjoy doing them and good to know they’re enjoyed too 👍 I really like working on TD5 more than anything and find them easier than most other stuff. Thanks for your support mate 😃👍👍 cheers 👍
Great vlog as alway, keeps me learning about mine hope I don’t have to dig that deep, but if I do I know where to refer back to good stuff cheers again 🍻 Wiganer in Cornwall 😂👍
Super job Shane , I have very limited knowledge of engines but it’s great viewing I just pretend I know what you’re doing 😇 those 15p cams are cheap ! did I really say that !! ( anybody reading that was a joke ) 😂 that’s a cool landy ready for a good few years action again 👍
Thanks mate 😁👍 I just pretend I know what I’m doing too 🤣 😜 and yea them 15p cams are cheap but not as cheap as the 10p ones 😂 mate we all do better in life with a sense of humour 😁👍 thanks again for your support pal 👍👍 cheers
Them head bolts do take a fair bit cranking up ill give your Idea of leaving them overnight if i ever have to do them again ,think had a bit too much oil on the washers the last 5 degrees they actually sprung back on a couple of them
Yea they’re scary aren’t they on the last couple of stages 😂 I do get that spring back too especially the last 45* but do find the lithium grease on the threads help a little. I know it sounds crazy but it’s freezing here now and last time I did one was summer and can’t remember it being as bad so temperature could be a thing too. I do rate the Victor Reinz bolts though 👍 cheers mate 👍
Absolutely brilliant thanks brother. What oil have you been running engine was clean. My opinion on the vw spec oil...I dint know reason is a lot of HD diesel engines use those type op injectors and fuel system and the are fine on a heavy diesel engine oil. I think we are better of with a heavy diesel oil over a petrol oil. Only my 2c. My td5 on 300000 kilometers no cam issues on shell rimula 15w40 heavy diesel oil
Thanks brother and thanks for watching 👍 yea I think your right as I’m pretty sure I used Shell Helix and that’s light being 5w30 but as it’s been using oil due to the head gasket I’ve been topping it up with different oils and left it far to long between servicing 😂 Yea I know the Scania and Volvo use similar injectors in the HD diesels too mate so probably better with a heavier oil cheers 👍 the VW spec thing is because of the P.D. Injectors they use too as they’re similar. Thanks mate 🔧😃👍
Hey mate great video as always. Got some work to do on my td5 ! Got some oil getting in the coolant i think it's coming from the oil cooler. Coming close to 300'000km and still on the original water pump could you recommend me which make of pump should I go for ? Thanks mate, cheers from Switzerland
Thanks mate 🙏 appreciated 👍 yea the oil coolers can rupture but could also be the head gasket but I’d do the cooler first 👍 this water pump is OEM and are a good pump PEM500040G 😃 to be honest if it’s had good coolant in it may be ok, I’ve used tap water in this and that’s why it’s so bad, but I’ve just took a pump off another high mileage engine I’m doing and it was perfect 👍 cheers mate
Gday mate great video how many kilometres on that engine and are they reliable and long lasting could you expect to get over 300,000 kilometres if it’s been well serviced ? cheers
Hi mate, thanks 🙏 😃 it’s only done about 100k but I’ve give it a hard life and not serviced it in a very long time 😂 but I’ve known people who have 400k on them and just serviced them with no problems, they’re amazing engines as long as you take care of them so should easily get over 300k 👍 cheers
Sorry I should of mentioned they’re synthetic and not old school rubber as yes you are correct petroleum based grease would indeed perish natural rubber O rings 👍 thanks for the heads up mate 😁 cheers
@CarJunkeez no probs I was thinking wtf I have a td5 been sitting for years on the refurb list so was just watching you for some tips as I e never worked on one only 300 TDI but I pulled my 300 out and put an m57 in unreal would never go back to a 300 ever will most prob replace the td5 in my other one and my 300 auto half built county that prob get m57 in it too it's night and day with the way it drive and power is unreal
@@graham-martin5847 yea M57 is a good conversion and good engine even in standard form. 300 are just gutless standard and not to much scope modified. I just really like the TD5 engine as they’re really simple and easy to work on, and can give not to bad power tuned, just difficult to match that lowdown torque from the M57 👍 cheers
@CarJunkeez mines got loads of torque to be honest I've got disco transfer box on it with auto box mapped to 300 on 33 inch wheels I love it can't stop driving it and fuel economy is amazing too

use rubber grease on rubber parts as far as i am aware normal grease nacks the rubber up and oil on the o ring of your oil filter
Sorry I should of mentioned they’re synthetic and not old school rubber as yes you are correct petroleum based grease would indeed perish natural rubber O rings 👍 thanks for the heads up mate 😁 cheers
