  • @crazycarnut1313
    @crazycarnut1313 2 месяца назад +276

    The wood on the IS-2 isn’t used for protection. It’s used for unditiching if it were to get stuck in mud or something. Wood can and has been used as extra protection, probably most famously to stop magnetic mines from being attached to tanks, but traditionally isn’t a great source of protection due to wood being weak compared to the metals tanks are made out of. Also pontoons aren’t supposed to be used as armor either, granted due to how much empty space is inside they can theoretically be used as spaced armor but it’s almost useless against any solid penetrators.

    • @woofle_124
      @woofle_124 2 месяца назад +19

      Additionally, the bed frames were not bed frames. They were custom made to fit onto T-34s to provide protection from chemical weapons.

      @user-ld1wb8rg1z Месяц назад

      In fact, a lot has always changed in the T-72, mainly the turret was redesigned, a new cannon was installed, and the automatic loader was increased to accommodate long shells. The body was changed, new fasteners were made for new dynamic protection, the forehead armor thickened and new components were used. They changed the chassis and refined the electronics. Russian tanks have to be heavily modified for modification, since their design is maximally simplified for storming positions. Minimum dimensions, automatic loader for recharging at any speed and any type of terrain, the most accelerated chassis and the most simple transmission and gearbox for repair in war conditions.

      @user-ld1wb8rg1z Месяц назад

      @@NguyenLyubyuStrana The question here is how you followed the modifications, most of them with improved dynamic protection, were on the options for sale. New electronics were often used inside. The T-72 was released in 1973, during the period 1973-1987, they completely changed the electronics, improved the frontal projection. Plus, at least 4 new tank turret configurations were created, for example, there was an option with an automatic loader in the roof of the tower, now the T-90M is making knock-out panels and changing the automatic loader and increasing the tank body. In general, designers do not eat bread for nothing.

    Logs aren't for protection - they are used when tank gets stuck in a mud. You chain them to from of the track, let it drive - logs provide additional grip.
    Once the logs move to the back, you unchain them and pass them to the front again - repeat until the tank gets unstuck.

    Ww2 protection screens were the most useless parts of protection in war thunder mobile. That plate of metal is literally thinner than a piece of paper.

      That's because it was never meant to protect you against tank shells, kinetic or shaped charge. It was meant to stop Soviet anti-tank rifle bullet

    Its not called grid armor, its slat armor. Also, Electro-Optical is a softkill APS, while "APS" on Merkava is hardkill APS
