      buying a copy of something never meant you were buying full ownership rights over the painting, poem, book, game, movie or whatever

    • @steel5897
      @steel5897 Месяц назад +3

      Digital is not the problem, DRM is.
      If you make this issue about physical vs digital you're not only wrong you're also actively harming your own cause. Physical media is dead, and digital is actually better for game preservation than physical is. DRM has always been the issue it has NOTHING to do with physical vs digital.

    • @steel5897
      @steel5897 Месяц назад +4

      @@sgtbaker2072 physical games have 0 to do with game preservation, they're actually worse than digital media for that. All those physical discs of PC games from the 2000s are now UNPLAYABLE btw because stuff like securom and GFWL have gone offline years ago.
      I'll repeat, stop making this issue about physical vs digital, you have no idea what you're talking about. The issue is DRM, always has been.

    • @jclosed2516
      @jclosed2516 Месяц назад

      @@steel5897 Absolutely!!!! I own a few physical game boxes, and the medium (CD/DVD) inside is nothing more than a piece of useless plasic. Those games I spend money on are now gone. For some you can find a "solution" on-line, but others are unsalvable and gone forever.
      That's the reason I avoid games with infested with kill-switch DRM (especially Denuvo) like the plague they are. In the very rare case I buy such a DRM infested game (when it's rock-bottom low price for instance) I make sure there is an "alternative" available to protect my investment. If that's not available, then my money stay's in my pocket - I am no fool...
      But in 99% of the cases I only buy DRM-Free games, and if possible on my preferred store platform GOG. On that platform you can download all the game installer files to install that game at any time without the need to be on-line at all. Those installers can be used years and years after purchase, without ever becoming unusable like those physical games that became very expensive coasters.

      It’s upsetting but I had a feeling this would happen unfortunately. Western AAA gaming companies only care about profit nowadays and the Dead Space Remake didn’t sell “well enough” for them. The only AAA developer I support nowadays is Capcom since they’re the only ones who’s games still feel like the golden age of AAA gaming and haven’t fully succumbed to western greed. I like the general quality of their games and respect the way they handle microtransactions in their new Resident Evil titles. Feels very fair since you know exactly what you’re getting from the purchase and doesn’t revolve around loot boxes or gambling (looking at you Apex Legends). It’s good old microtransactions that are simply there to further support the developer if you feel like it. Also love the fact they still do singleplayer DLC expansions. It's nice to see that some people understand how to make a profit without gouging everyone for all they've got and that your rep in the industry is far more important for long term sustainability, but that is also because Larian in its current form is thinking about long-term plans.

Now if I look at a new release game it's $70 plus a $60 season pass with absolutely no chance that the dlc content is anything but cut content because they released the game 1 1/2 years early and broken.

    I've experienced some games that left me wanting to support the developers more but tbh I've never felt that way about $70 games.....this has generally happened with smaller indie developers that are charging $20, $30 or $40 for their game and some of them actually have supporter dlc bundles that add some minor cosmetics, which is kind of a way of having a tipping system without having a tip system. There have also been cases where I played a game on game pass and loved it so much that I bought the game in steam, with the intention of playing it again in the future. (Lookin at you Haven)

      It doesn’t really matter what their expectations were, if it didn’t meet it’s sales targets based on the cost of developing it plus marketing it, then they’re not going to be interested in a sequel.
      Given the insane expectations of gamers nowadays towards AAA games it was never going to be cheap to develop.
      This idea of publisher expectations has become sort of magical spell in the minds of some people, whereby some gamers seem to think that if a publisher just set their expectations lower than the game would magically become a success regardless of whether the sales are enough to recoup all the expenses.
      They could have spent less on the remake by giving it less fancy graphics and sound, or by not bothering with new additions like making the Ishimura one consistent play space.
      But then *those* gamers (you know the ones) would have complained that it didn’t have good enough graphics and it hadn’t added anything over the original in terms of features and it would have sold even less.

    It's crazy how I have never heard a bad thing about Larian Studios...
    Literally the only company I can think of like that. Even making monetary contributions to other great games like Blasphemous and we would have never known if it weren't for one of their devs shouting them out... My favorite company in gaming since DOS

    The backlash was brutal. But will it be brutal enough to force change? To stop people buying pre orders? I hope so, but I doubt it..

      I've never once regretted a pre-order. I think it just comes down to how tight your purse-strings are. You're statistically more likely to make more informed purchasing choices when you have a tighter budget.

    When it comes to “Digital Deluxe Editions”, I don’t mind paying a few extra bucks to get the soundtrack (if it’s good) BUT Digital art books should be unlocked after you’ve finished a game.

    • @KryyssTV
      @KryyssTV Месяц назад

      For that price tag I'd expect a physical book that's been signed by the voice actors and contaibs a DVD with a 30+ minute "Making Of" documentary. Not a PDF some intern made using concept art that was created for the game anyway during development.

    • @KwyattCreations
      @KwyattCreations Месяц назад

      @@KryyssTV I’m more taking about an extra $10-$15 that regular game developers charge. I bought the extra stuff for BG3 (mostly for the DOS2 stuff) if you’re charging more than that, you can suck the life and joy right out of my butthole. BUT that’s just my opinion. I really like the work that goes into a great musical score in good video games.

    • @Jorquay
      @Jorquay Месяц назад +2

      CD Projekt did, but they've worked hard to get back to the light and have redeemed themselves in my opinion. Hopefully Larian will have the sense (and lack of shareholders) to not go down that same route.

    I never played FO4 when it came out so since all the games on sale on steam for quite cheap, I picked it up knowing the wide-screen support was coming. Forgot all about the London mod.. Sucks that years-later updates like this break mods :/

    • @Xander-Gen
      @Xander-Gen Месяц назад

      Bethesda is just being fucking annoying at this point. The mods are far more important than whatever bullshit half assed lazy update they got coming up

    • @tronam
      @tronam Месяц назад

      It's because Fallout: London is dependent on another mod called F4 Script Extender which basically hacks the Fallout 4 executable to add extra functions they want. After the patch, F4SE will get updated, and then the devs can retest the mod for release. This has happened many times in the past, so there's nothing shocking about any of this. It wasn't out of the blue either; Bethesda announced the FO4 next-gen update back in 2022, so it was expected, but just not exactly when.

    • @EhEhEhEINSTEIN
