- Adjusting the reach of your brake levers (or, your "brake throw") is one of the quickest adjustments you can make to make your bike safer and more comfortable to use. If you feel like you are not getting enough bite out of your brakes and you know your brakes are bled and the pads are good, you likely just need to do this 2 minute piece of bicycle maintenance. Hector will walk you through how to perform a brake throw adjustment whether you have a tooled or tool-less set of brake levers.

Great introduction to the subject. Thanks
Thank you so much! I needed this!
Thanks bro
Scary feeling when the brake lever hits your knuckle and you don't slow down. It's crucial to make these lever adjustments for your safety and for proper functioning brakes.
Mine hits my nuckle, is this a video for hydraulic brakes?
@@crazyparrot9113 yes, this video is for hydraulic brakes. For cable-pull brakes, you may be able to quickly adjust the tension using the barrel adjuster at the brake lever. Some cable-pull brakes have a barrel adjuster at the caliper.
@@HectorSalcedo I fixed my brakes and I also found out my brake setup I bought doesn’t have a bleeding hole so I just screwed on the cup with the brake liquid in it and just tapped the lines to get the bubble out and used the cup plug to kinda plunger the bubbles out 😅 it worked
@@HectorSalcedo also thanks you
@user-ft1ck3vj4vhow did you stop?
shim xt 8100s
Im in a position where if the brakes are close to my grip, and i one finger brake, it smushes my other finger.
I got the lever throw all the way out.
Do I need more oil in the line or something?
otherwise I had to scoot the brakes further away from the grip, but that also puts my shifters kinda far away.
What am I missing.
If I just 2 finger brake then Im fine but what the heck thanks?
It’s not my level or on my bike is not moving. It’s stuck. Please give me an answer.
I don't have anywhere to adjust on schimano deore?
i have an older bike with radius brakes and it doesn’t have either of these, i just cleaned and did stuff to the brakes pads but my lever hits the grip and the brakes do nothing, help
Same im still wondering if u find let me know
Look up a different vid on tightening your brakes. That's what you need. This vid is for a different kind of brakes.
There is a screw on the caliper you need to loosen and pull the wire through then tighten up.
A vid would explain it better tho.
What do I do if that screw is being unscrewed by itself over a certain period of time?
Get new brake levers
But what if there is just too much slack in the brake? What if I need to pull down on the break too far for it to get to the stopping power I want? How do I shorten that, like going from needing to pull the lever practically all the way down to only like a quarter of the way down?
If mechanical brakes you need to tighten up your brake cable at the caliper end. If Hydraulic you likely need to bleed the system to get any air out. This will take out the excess play or slack before it effects the lever.
But the lever keeps getting slacker every time I pull the brakes
