Today we are doing the deodorant recipe, because I've promised it for months. Sorry about the teaser re: shea. That's coming next week. There is shea in this guy though, so it kinda counts.
Also, talk to me about the diatomaceous earth thing. Vegan or nah? What's algae? That's a plant, right? Therefore vegan? HAAAALLLLP.

It's 7pm. ... And still 80°... And not breezy. But the truck's off the bridge type wind is the typical Tuesday warning for us. Believe it or not Vegas is super breezy regularly. I think Sin City was just easier than fighting over the term of Windy-ER... LoL. As for diatomaceous earth. It's technically the remains. I can't remember what At the moment. I'm having another My bathroom is flooded again, brain fog. Hail can be exciting to watch. Not so much if you have to go out in it. Please be safe out there.
@Tim M normally it is bearable. But when it's 117° ... And you can actually Cook an egg on the concrete, cement, etc. Not so much. Thanks God for A/C...
Diatomaceous earth is used in the pool industry as well as used to clean fish tanks like what we had...it was called a diatom filter....dogs and cats can also consume it as it's used as a dewormer as well as having many benefits for animals and humans! On top of that it can be used for human consumption as well as topically for dogs and cats when there's issues with ticks fleas...you can also use it in the yard for ticks and other insects! I use it myself as well as for my dogs and cats!
@@morpro4u There are 2 different kinds… the pool kind MUST NOT be consumed!! Only consume the food grade kind.
I would say it is one of the most vegan things available because the fossilized protist cells contain a nucleus that is neither animal, plant or fungus. Xx

Sorry for being so late on weighing in, but here is a snippet of info I found on Web MD: Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a powder made from the sediment of fossilized algae. The algae - tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms - have skeletons made of silica, or silicon dioxide. The natural silica reacts with oxygen and water to form silicon dioxide, and most diatomaceous earth is composed of silicon dioxide. Diatomaceous earth is found in streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans around the world. DE (Food Grade is most widely used as a natural pesticide, which is nontoxic to humans and pets, and seems to work pretty well. It works by cutting through the offending critter's exosceleton like little eensy weensy little razor blades as they walk or jump through it. I wouldn't put it directly on pets, as it will also dry out their skin, possibly causing problems for them if you're not monitoring their skin. Food grade DE is safe for human and pet consumption, and is currently being sold as a vitamin suppliment (there is no FDA or any other backing of their efficacy at present, though). The other grade, known as Garden, or more widely known as Pool Grade is toxic if consumed, and is intended for use in gardens and pool filters (using a DE filtration system, of course). Sorry about the tangent, but the bottom line (at least to me), based on all the information out there on DE, it comes from fossilized alge (plant matter) who's skeletal remains are made of silica (which is also contained in rocks and some mud, are not of an animal origin, and therefore is vegan. Ok, enough of my rambling now, WAKE UP!! 🤭

This is so cool! Thank you! Now the algea thing. Yes it is a water plant, shell is a misnomer. It is actual minerals the plant has absirbed making it shell like. It's not a shell like a mollusk grows. (It's NOT a shell fish!!!) There that's the quick answer. It is most certainly vegan!!! No worries.
I want to thank you for this video., it's difficult to find or create a recipe for deodorant that doesn't have baking soda. That stays together nicely and doesn't get to hard to glide on or crumbles! This looks gorgeous! I don't care if it's vegan or not, although I'll have to check with my customer base. Ok now tell me you can put this in a cardboard deodorant tube and we'll have an earth shattering recipe, lol!

This can TOTALLY be poured into cardboard containers! I will start doing that for my line soon - now that I’m no longer on 6th Ave and people would prefer some form of packaging when being shipped, I can do so!
you can also use zinc oxide or magnesium hydroxide instead of kaolin clay or baking soda - it gets rid of odour. love this vid.
Need to add to my comment now, the stinky smell of the neem doesnt stick, in fact it goes away completely. Its a GREAT deodorant ill make it again xxx
I’ve been making deodorant for my fam for years but some can not tolerate the baking soda so I am excited to try this! I too, am not a big sweater but I have a teen and other family members who are! This might be a silly question but how do you use this? Do you just rub on your pits? The one I make is more of a cream deodorant. Thanks so much!
Looove recipes day! Needed a new deodorant. I have a good one that work but....it seems to stain the pits on my shirts. Probablyndue to the higher (only) coconut oil. I was excites to see you do this one. Have it all but the Karanja/Neem so I'll have to order one if these and make it next week (or so) thank you for this. I appreciate you!!
I got karanja oil due to Mrs. S & C using it. I love it! Much less harsh smelling than neem.
Hello...I just found this video and I am out of town for a week or two. When I get home I will give this recipe a try..been looking for a deodorant recipe for the "super smelly"!! Stay tuned by middle or end of next month. ☺️
Love your vibe. I have been trying to create s deodorant for my family and friends who the ones out there don't work for or has irritated their skin. Tweeked this recipe the first time because I didn't have all the ingredients. Got em now though. However it actually kept me from sweating., hot flakes on 10,000 I added magnesium because 1 armpit was fighting back it worked. Trying t his o e now that I have everything you used Thank y9u.

Question - do you have oils that you recommend substituting the Neem and karanja out for? I don't have anything else in my line that requires them and they are a bit on the spendy side. Also, I know these oils are typically on the stinky side - so I don't know, I'm struggling with my penny pinching self to decide whether or not buying them is necessary for this one product or if I can't swap out these oils for something else. I know you work hard formulating good recipes, so I'm sure it's perfect, but I need to know if it can be subbed.
I have a lot of people ask for non coconut oil products. Would babassu oil be a suitable substitution? Thank you

Yay! Excited about this. Deodorant without baking soda is so hard to find one that works. I’ve done so much testing over and over and I finally just gave up lol
DE is derived from plant matter (fossilized algae shell from the sea) not fish or animal so yes you are correct, it is definitely vegan...at least that's what I've found! Has high quantity of minerals so it's good for the skin and body. This is great, thank you so much for sharing!

Finally got all my ingredients to make these, just finished pouring them, I used the 15ml deodorant tubes to give out some samples….by the time I finished my dishes, they were ready, testing one out now. Also, I’m in Louisiana so I’m sure it’ll be put TO THE TEST tomorrow, it was 80°ish yesterday for Christmas, we wore shorts

I made your deodorant today with the neem, as I can’t get the karunja. It is quite pungent, I wanted to get your thoughts on maybe using only lemon myrtle essential oil to help reduce the neem smell, as lemon myrtle is good for fungus and bacteria. Would it be worth a try or would I be wasting product. It gets very hot here in Australia, so we need very good deodorant. Would you ever consider using fragrance oil. Thanks for sharing.

Hey! So I give in percentages from time to time to make it easier to resize a batch for your needs. So if you only wanted to make a 2oz version of this to test, you’d take 2 times 15% for the coconut, 12% for the Shea, etc etc etc - until you have all of your measurements, which will add up to 2oz.

Algae is considered mostly plants, they are NOT an animal, one type is seaweed. We learned this last year in science. - Timo

When you stated that benzonite clay is a heavy hitter, what did you mean by that?
Bentonite absorbs up to 8x its weight; toxins, water, etc.
What is all of the ingredients you are using for the Deodorant
Algae is vegeterian/ vegan. Is the non flowering aquatic plants including seaweeds also contains chlorophyll . Large photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms. There are at list 4 diferentbtype of algae. Also incredibly rich in omega 3s

For me no matter how short my hair is it will not hold a curl. It is so stubbornly straight I’ve given up on ever having any kind of hair style other then long, lol. I’ve even tried getting a perm and that was the biggest epic fail ever. Took a year for my hair to recover and not look like I stuck a finger in an outlet on the daily.
It’s been a couple years since I got a haircut, so it’s probably long past time I got it cut since it’s so long now that even when it’s pulled up I have to be careful when I bend over that I don’t get it in the dogs water bowl or step on it. I had a hair tie break once while making a master batch of lye water that I got a small section just barely in the container before I baked away and relocked it all down on top of my head with a new hair tie and cap. Having waist length hair has made me more aware of some random things that I’d not thought about before.
Yeah, it is beautiful with waistlong hair but it comes with its own set of problems/mishaps 😆 I am very careful when I pick up my dogs 💩 to keep my head at a distance so the hair does not come flying right into... 😅 I saw a woman with really long hair recommending to wear a scarf when you work and are outside, to prevent the dirt getting into the hair and the hair getting caught in branches etc.
@@malenejensen2995 I work part time in a dog kennel. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve gotten it in 💩, mud, etc. At home my biggest issue is usually my cat that demands to be held and carried around the house while he grooms my face tends to get tangled up in it if I don’t remember to move it out of his way when he jumps up.
I love that you did this and I'll be back later when I can actually focus. The water that has been leaking in my bathroom or actually oozing from under only god knows where and puddling in wonky places on the bathroom floor, off and on for at least 2 years is no longer willing to Dry Up. It's been flooded since Thursday. Great goodness my brain is fried. Maintenance, plummer, then different maintenance, then rug guys to suck Up the water for yet another maintenance and before they could get the hoses back in the truck, more water. Loki needs to find another place to live. Eventually it will get better and I can get caught up. I sure hope you're feeling better and your jaw is healing quickly. 🤗🧡💙💜

I get that it's a bad situation and not an easy fix, what I'm livid about is they're not doing anything temporarily to absorb the water. For the love of charlie, they could send something, anything, cases of flour or rice, and oatmeal or Kitty litter. Home depot or Lowe's, opposite directions, are both less than 3 miles away. I don't have a car and I'm not able to get there on the bus. But I shouldn't have to Pay for fixing this. I just keep getting told over and over "we just took over the property on the 1st and the previous staff took everything. - But I'm going to call my boss because they have to fix this, and I'll be back." ... They disappear, never to be heard from again. The carpet cleaner left his fan after ripping out the padding under the carpet, because it's gone past the bathroom into the hallway - bedroom and said he'd be back. 24 hours later. Nothing. You know that Year 2020 that was a dumpster fire of a year. Well 2021is it's younger sibling in a poopy diaper who's in serious need of a timeout. Help. Send thoughts and prayers I don't float away or end going postal. The stench is enough to perm your hair and I can't eat or drink anything because I'll just need to go peeeeee and I can't get to it to use the toilet... I want to scream.

@@MrsSoapAndClay ... Grandma - meaning me, went to the office this morning at 10am and Lost it. I was polite, at least as much as I could be. Because I seriously needed to go peeeeee and I know TMI, but how well can anyone think clearly, when you are doing that peee-pee dance? Maintenance guy had to go buy a shopvac. That was at 11:30am. Plumber got here at 12:45pm. There's multiple leaks in multiple places ... Something that I have been trying to tell the previous management and maintenance but apparently I know nothing. Now The complex manager is here and they're saying they will fix it today. But I have a feeling it's going to be bigger issue. This is just going to fix this problem for now but because the previous company and the previous one before that did crappy and cheap stuff that the plummer said you should never do, so it's going to snowball. I just have a feeling. But what do I know I'm just an old lady. 👀😎 - I don't claim to know it all, I just want to. I know that I know what I'm talking about. It's just that people don't listen. They hear what they think they are hearing - they are thinking with what they know and understand and from they're perspective. And I'm just exhausted from having to be understanding. I had NO intention of making deodorant again!! I did this thing like for 5 years when my kids were little, trying all the deodorant recipes, not caring for any of them, and ended up using Arm & Hammer naturals for the last several years. But I did this today. And it's your fault, Mrs. S&C! 😉 Because every recipe I've tried so far I've loved, even though I often have to sub ingredients, so I trust you. 🙂 But I'm not patient enough to wait on Amazon to get the right stuff. (I know, that's pathetic, lol)
Anyway, didn't have karanja oil. So I used a combo of castor and Neem (Was afraid of the Neem smell if I subbed it all). I didn't have enough arrow root so I used half and half arrow root and tapioca starch. And I used beeswax. I'm hoping it will be a good consistency to just put in a jar or tin and scoop some out to use it. For now I just molded it. I love that it can be melted down. But here in Texas I'll have to keep it in an enclosed container if I'm traveling. Anywho, it seems nice so far. My pits don't smell yet. Thanks for all the recipes! ♥️
Oh, and the main reason I made it was because I have had this giant bag of diatomaceous earth that I have no idea what to do with. It would still take me a century to use it all, but it's a start. Any other ideas on how to use it? Can I use it in soap? 🤔 I rarely do any gardening anymore.

I'm not a biologist or scientist, my chemistry is pretty limited to basic baking and soaping. I'm also not vegan or even vegetarian and my environmentalism could use some work.... So not an expert in the slightest - that's why I don't make or sell vegan products despite them being a hot commodity in the PNW (I have a couple items, but that's just by coincidence or trying to have at least 2 things they can choose from). I would say in my opinion that DE would be vegan, I equate it (likely incorrectly) to yeast, and as far as I know, bread is ok for vegans.

Even if it was made of fossilized goldfish, it's been fossilized. So that means minerals have replaced the organism. So it's just minerals. I guess it would be a weird gray area, the fossils were formed a long time ago from a natural process, and there is no animal matter in the diatomaceous earth.
Algae is not classified as a plant or animal.

I love this, but it comes our way to hard for me. Must be slight differences in ingredients used. With DE for me, at 10% is a huuuuge amount. It doesn't seem to weigh anything lol.
I'm going to have to play with ingredients until I get the right consistency 😌
