Time ADHX 45: First Impressions

  • I’ve been riding my beautiful blue Time ADHX for almost a year now, and it’s flat-out unbelievable as both a fast gravel and a road bike. But if you try to run tires much bigger than 38, you’re going to be disappointed - which has been an echoing refrain since it launched.
    Well, as you probably know by now Time heard our cries and has answered them - with the all new ADHX 45. I built mine about a week ago, and I’ve got two solid gravel rides under my belt so this video is going to be a quick overview along with my first impressions of the bike. I’ve also put together another video that can help you choose the right Time for your needs and you’ll see a longer, more in-depth review in a few months once I have more time with the 45.
    The ADHX 45 uses all the same patented Time technology as its older brothers, like Dyneema to add strength and stiffness at the lug joints and and resin transfer molding to ensure a perfect finished product. So all of the hallmarks of a fine, handbuilt frame are still here - Time didn’t take any shortcuts or rush this bike to market. And in order to accommodate the much needed wider tire clearance they made three key adjustments to the geometry: they added 15mm to the wheelbase, which included a 10mm chainstay increase and an extra 3mm fork offset over the standard ADHX.
    You can also see the same top tube mounting bolts, super clean front derailleur cover, kevlar reinforced steerer tube and forged carbon dropouts. And let’s not gloss over those last two features like they’re just standard stuff - a strong steerer tube and dropouts that have 20 times the fatigue life of steel are welcome additions to any off road bike.
    Oh, and did I mention the PAINT. Holy cow…let’s just take a moment here, and admire the absolute mastery behind the orange to red sparkle fade on my frame. Wow.
    how does all this come together? Is is REALLY that different from the ADHX? Theeee answer is honestly no - but that NO is a REALLY GOOD NO because the ADHX is a REALLY GOOD BIKE. And you really don’t want the 45 to be that different. So you get the same road-bike-esque acceleration and responsiveness, but it’s coupled with the ability to run larger tires and even though it’s only ‘about’ 7mm more tire clearance - the difference is huge when you’re navigating TRUE gravel, not the champaign gravel we have here in SoCal - and the longer wheelbase and chainstays also improve stability and handling, especially when descending and cornering.

    This is my top pick for a new frame, but I've been waffling due to the large discounts I've been seeing elsewhere. That sparkly orange fade sings to my soul. I can't wait for the full review, where you convince me to expand my budget.

    TIME is the best. No discussion, the quality of finish, unique technology, and quality of ride. I have TOME 2023 road frame with mechanical Shimano Ultegra, and DT Swiss wheels. I builded it myself with Rotor crankset. About 5K USD complete bike.

      It’s a medium, and the steering is neutral to slightly quick, not too extreme at all.

    I bought a Revolt because my first choice, the ADHX, had what I considered to be less than desirable tire clearance.

      Thanks! Sharp eye! Those are TRP HY/RD’s, an insanely good cable actuated hydraulic disc brake.

    Love this bike! Debating the colors for my own purchase...thoughts on the blue and green? Also, you hear different things about how these size...suggestions for a 5'8" roadie?

      @AndyClarkRealReviews  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I got to see all the colors in person during a recent trip to Little Rock and the orange red is definitely a stand out favorite. Greene would come in second blue is third but I think the new gray one is as good as the orange fade.
      As far as sizing goes, it’s really tough to recommend the right size via the comments thread on a RUclips video 😂 I’d highly recommend finding a good bike fitter in your local area to help you figure it out

    hey there. which size is your 45? this looks like a very interesting option as a bike for fast gravel rides. the only thing that worries me is how quick (nervous) the steering is, head angles are quite steep and between sizes s and m, it seems to get really to the steep end. so, how would you describe the steering of this bike? i know it s maybe hard to separate one attribute like this but try anyway, thanks.

    Is toe overlap an issue on the ADHX or the ADHX45?

    • @AndyClarkRealReviews
      @AndyClarkRealReviews  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, unfortunately it is - the geo is pretty tight. But it's a once or twice-a-ride occurrence for me, and only happens at stoplights!

    You still living your Enve foundation 45’s and are they still on your most recommended wheel list ?
    (Compared to possibly Enve 4.5 or 3.5 or others like Roval Terra clx)

    • @AndyClarkRealReviews
      @AndyClarkRealReviews  29 дней назад

      If you’re running 28’s, then yes - the 45’s are fantastic. However, the wider 3.4’s and 4.5’s are much better for 30c and above.

      Great Andy thank you so much for taking the time to reply and share your input.
      I appreciate the opinion of someone of your pedigree in the vast ocean of shills and promoting influencers.
      For the foundation series, may I conclude that for 65mm depth aero set the same could apply (compared 4.5, 5.6) if using a 28mm tyre for road racing ?
      Even the spokes type and numbers of spokes appears to be stiffer and stronger on the foundation series.

    Hi I want to find allroad bike. Its ADHX 45 good for this purpose ? I have two wheelsets 43mm and road 30mm. Is it fast as an endurance road bike with 30mm tires or not. Thanks

      @AndyClarkRealReviews  8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s PERFECT as an all road bike, performs identically to the ADHX and climbs like a road bike. Best all-rounder in their lineup, for sure.

    Hi Andy. Between these 2 bikes and knowing I ride in same areas as you in SoCal. Which would you choose if you only could have one? Thanks!

    • @AndyClarkRealReviews
      @AndyClarkRealReviews  9 месяцев назад

      45, without a doubt. ADHX only has 38-39c clearance at MOST. I’d go for more tire clearance at the same price because the two bikes perform equally.

    Question...16 seconds into the video...where is this? It looks eerily similar to Washoe Lake in Reno, but I know you mentioned you are in southern california

    Would 650b wheels allow wider than 45? Or would frame clearances be the limiting factor?

    • @AndyClarkRealReviews
      @AndyClarkRealReviews  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, that’s one solution but the bike was not designed to perform optimally with 650’s.

      650bs allow for up to 50c...

    What is the biggest 650b tire it will accommodate?

    • @AndyClarkRealReviews
      @AndyClarkRealReviews  9 месяцев назад

      It’s not really designed for optimal performance with 650’s, so I wouldn’t recommend anything other than 700
