A Yeti Style Cup Almost Killed My Patient
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2018
- A patient came into my office with recurrent bacterial infections and no one could figure out why. That is until we started to take a look at his lifestyle habits and discovered he was drinking out of the same yeti cup and not washing it correctly.
*Public Service Announcement*
This video is not specifically for Yeti cup owners. This could be pertinent for any cup with a "suction like" seal, it just happens that my patient was using a Yeti. I created this video as a public service announcement to remind people to wash their lids correctly.
I personally love and use Yeti cups daily. I do think that a consideration and redesign of the rubber seal is pertinent for easier to removal to wash. I have now received multiple emails from people saying that they didn’t know how to remove the seal and when they did, they found ‘gunk’ under the seals and sliders
.
My hope from this video is not to degrade Yeti, but to bring awareness to the issue.
Please take the time to find out how to properly take care of your Yeti and make sure every piece is clean before use.

The cup didn’t almost kill him... his inability to clean a cup properly almost killed him.
I have 3 sports bottles I drink water out of daily. I make sure and clean them regularly and rotate them out. That's all on the customer being stupid.
As soon as he said "I'm a chiropractor" I knew this was click bait. Leave the doctoring to people with actual MDs.
It ignorance almost killed him
My first thought as well.
Exactly James Nolan
Eating and drinking out of dirty dishes isn’t Yeti’s fault.
He never stated it was Yeti's fault. He said if you have a cup by Yeti or any other manufacturer, please make sure to take it apart and clean it better. At no time was he blaming the company
@@valhafer754 He said to let Yeti know that there is a flaw, which insinuates blame. It's not a flaw.
@@valhafer754 yes he did, he said the cup has a flaw, and look at the title of the video... clearly blaming the Yeti cup when it comes down to people using dirty cups.
Those cups and straw cups are pain to clean. I can guarantee that most people don't clean theirs properly. There is a flaw and it is manufacturers' responsibility to keep consumer's safety in mind. Car manufacturer's try their best to keep us safe, I would think that cup manufacturers could as well.
@@cheryldorn5739 It's not a flaw... pretty clear in the cleaning instructions actually.
If you read the instructions on the “care Instructions” it actually tells you to remove the gasket and clean it in soapy water.......I realize most people don’t read instructions but this should be a lesson to at least glance at them.
The fact that he didn't intuitively clean out his mug...yes even by messing with the gasket..
doesnt(*SHOULDNT) warrant a BlackBox warning for damn sake
(Literal black mold growing if the Doc's story is straight)
Correction: Your patient's poor hygiene nearly killed him.
After watching your video, I immediately removed the seals, washed my RTIC cups with Dawn Premium and hot sudsy water, sanitized them with vinegar, rinsed them and replaced the straws. My husband has stage 4 cancer and is currently taking chemo. He has almost no immunity to infection. Thank you so much for providing this valuable information.
My condolences to you and your husband. It's an ugly fight you face.
Good advice for chemo patients. My brother was also told to not drink soda fountain drinks because of ice contamination.
@@BJane58 you never know how well the establishment cleans the soda machine either. They have to take those nozzles off and clean them. Places that are open 24/7 may never clean them.
Fay Burton best wishes to you and your family. I hope this tip helps him!
Fay, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband. My hope is that this small video helps aide in the full recovery of your husband back to full health
It was his lack of hygiene that caused the bacterial bloom. Sheesh. Basic hygiene is a simple adulting skill.
I'd say at least half the country doesn't know to do this. I've seen numerous new moms not taking apart their child's sippy cup and mold collects under the gasket. Is it ignorance or laziness? We'll probably never know.
I'm an OTR truck driver and I always just give my cups a quick rinse at truck stops with water and not really thinking about it. Partly because I'm always exhausted so thanks for waking me up to this. Funny how the simplest things in life can be overlooked.
That’s not just Yeti cups. That’s the case with every single travel mug.
And blenders. There's a seal between the blades and the bottom of the blender.
Not all of them use the brilliant magslider though
Yeah well it's not just travel mugs, literall everything, if you dont wash your plates, forks, spoons, etc. It will build bacteria. I thought this was just common sense
@@levim8948 LOL there is no common sense any more it is the blame some one else society now!
children's sippy cups with gaskets too!
If Yeti has a magnetic slider that pops and a rubber seal that comes off, that is definitely not a Yeti flaw!! That is a coffee cup advanced in technology that took some serious thinking so it can be properly cleaned! All other styles of coffee mugs don’t come apart without destroying them.
You are right on
You are VERY right! It's a consumer flaw!!!
Yeah it's definitely not a flaw it's about cleanliness like anyting you should know that it needs to be clean that's a lot like people drinking out of a ceramic coffee cup in his white man after about six months it's nasty and and brown in there while you're not really getting any bacteria out of it but if your me I want to go to shoot a little bit of bleach water in there and get that thing back to white again so you can blame two companies two companies made the cup they're awesome awesome cups could never get another cup that would hold hot coffee for seven or eight hours or cold tea for 7 or 8 hours so it's all about common sense people come on let's start using our common sense
Yes! it took forever for me to find a travel mug that would allow me to fully clean the lid.
Thank you! I am an RN and I worked in surgery for 25 years so I know a lot about disinfecting items. Your commentary on the yeti cup was informative and important for peoples health. I would also suggest making sure all parts are dry before reassembling them.
I use a Contigo cup with a very difficult to unassemble lid. In your opinion, would it clean well enough to boil it with a small amount of bleach and then wash it with hot, soapy water, and dip it back in fresh, clean boiling water so that it dries faster? I tend to be a germ-a-phobe anyway and I use half & half in my coffee. I'm disabled and will spill a regular cup every time. Plus I have a cup of coffee with me all the time! I never feel like the cups are clean enough but I don't want to use disposable travel cups. They tend to fill the landfill quicker & don't keep my coffee hot for very long. Thanks!
I get quietly pissed that my girlfriend and her kids keep puting away wet Rubbermaid and these kinds of cups, for this same reason. I tell them again and again, it never sinks in. I guess that guys are stupid is deeply engrained. I think its time to hit the road. Obviously there are other issues. All of then have to do with toxic behaviors, both in hygiene and psychological. Ignorance and indifference go hand in hand in the struggles of life.

great point !
Me too. Broke 8 ribs and a shoulder after flying like superman...
ROFL! I totally get that. My first thought when I saw this vid is a man's unclean PRACTICES almost killed the patient, not the cup. Cups are NOT self-cleaning....
When I was a medic in the Navy a sailor came in constantly with GI issues. Doctors couldn't figure it out, IDC couldn't figure it out, but me being a lowly E-3 figured it out. His can opener at home was not being washed.
Same with some kids sippy cups. Always wash all parts.
as in thoroughly clean them
Yes that has happened to my kids cups.. it’s just yuck..
Ppl shouldn't have to be told this.
Yes! Kids cups and bath toys are very susceptible as well!
Many "Sippy Cups" have tops that can grow mold and bacteria inside parts that can't be removed and cleaned. The tops come off the cups, but inside the top are surfaces that can't be accessed to clean.
Same thing with baby stuff. some of those bottles have tiny Knick knacks crooks & crannies - perfect hiding spot
NO......Stupid almost killed your "patient".
I’m so detail oriented I don’t even purchase cups or dishes that have crevices or seals you can’t clean thoroughly by hand. I am all about hand washing dishes thoroughly!
My biggest pet peeve with dishes is crevices lol
OurLittleHomestead I know! Me too. When seals won’t come out or you can’t reach them, or built in straws with small spaces and crevices you can’t get to or remove. Drives me nuts.
2019 folks....we blame the cup for almost killing the person and not the person for not washing it.
No one blamed the cup. Sometimes people need to be educated, that's all.
@@dustinstout1798 the doc did say 'Inform Yeti of this flaw' To me, that's pointing at the cup. Not saying I think it's right, just that yeah, he did say 'flaw'
@@dhelven Perhaps the flaw is that they need to make it clear on their instructions on how to properly clean the cup. I would make it very clear and apparent, as I suspect a lot of people are not properly cleaning the removable parts.
@@dustinstout1798 My Yeti had clear instructions. A paper inside the cup at time of purchase. If the consumer decides to toss it without reading it, that is no blame on the company.
@@cindykoch1251 I'll take your word on this, I don't use these. I agree consumers need to take more responsibility. But this seems to be one of those things where a very high % of people are not washing it correctly, that's concerning. Instead of trying to find blame, we should look for solutions whatever they might be.
You're not a doctor. And this dude deserves a Darwin Award.
He saw “bacteria”...
probably mold...which if all this is actually related to his health problems, it would explain why the antibiotics did nothing.
kras00buck you know its bad when you can see the bacteria
If you see a slimy orange film, that's bacteria. He's trying to help people. A bit clickbaity but still.
He's a chiropractor, what did you expect
He’s just built different. Got them microscopic eyes.
Instructions have always been included that explain how to take the lid apart and clean it. You don’t take a fork or knife and wreck the rubber, you pinch a spot, which will lift a part of the rubber so you can grab and it can then be pealed off. Also, Yeti is one of many company using a similar lid design. Dont be so yeti specific. The title should be like “my patient is a dirty moron who was drinking out of a filthy cup”
I knew what you were going to say as soon as I saw this. I own a housekeeping company. You would be shocked about the amounts of mold sitting under those rubber rings. All of my clients have them and none of them were removing this before cleaning. Super gross!
Ok, let's be clear about this. The Yeti cup did NOT "almost literally" kill the patient. The patient being a knucklehead "almost literally" killed him. Just one more example of people not taking responsibility for their actions, or in this case, non-actions.
Guess his subscription to "Well Duh!" magazine hadn't arrived.
You told him about what you found and yeti kept drinking out of it...

People with small kids need to be careful too. Bacteria builds up in the rubber parts of bottles too. And to people who ate saying it was lack of hygiene. Most people throw cups into dishwasher or hand clean without thinking of taking off the rubber part it's not laziness it's just something that people don't usually look at.
I agree on the dishwasher part. Too bad so many folks here have to resort to name calling because someone didn't think their dishwasher wasn't sufficient to clean their cup.
I didn’t dare to remove it thinking it’s hard to put it back
You should clean your coffee maker too. Those things sit 24/7 with moisture inside. While they’re not being used, they’re growing bacteria. You should run vinegar through them periodically. So it’s not just your cup where are you’re getting bacteria, you may be getting it from your coffee as well.
May I add, *especially* those single cup ones ... kerick (or whatever they're called). I don't know that *any* cleaner run through those can get them clean.
Holy crap! I lived & traveled in my van for years using the same cup every day & never even washed it! And I'm still here! :D But I just checked my lid sitting right next to me & it's all gunky. :( Thanks for this.
Yes, and wash the inside of the straw, too.
@@nancyoppegard6665 I’ll never buy a cup with a lid+straw assembly. They don’t come apart, and I’d never be satisfied that they’re clean

Not the cups fault he didn't properly clean his cup...I've had a ozark cup just like that for 2 years and never had a problem cleaning mine
Question unrelated to the video....is that a zombie taking a shit in your profile? 😂 Hella random and I love it!
@@1SavageQueen89 yes yes it is
Seems pretty anecdotal. Absolutely no evidence to support that this was the cause or cure.
0:28: "I have been battling this infection in my body for the past four months. In fact, I have been on five different types of antibiotics..."
The organism causing the infection is not stated, or whether it is a bacteria or a virus. The part of the person's body that is infected is not mentioned or the name of their illness.
Without any of that information, there is zero basis to say a dirty cup caused the infection. The patient could have HIV, chlamydia, Clostridium Difficile, or strep throat. None of those are caused by dirty cups.
Or lyme disease like me.
The fact that he says he 'saw' the 'bacteria' says this is hogwash. Most likely this is mold, which may also explain the guys health issues and why the antibiotics didn't work on mold (if his health problems are in fact related to his cup)
I thought that too.
How could he see the bacteria?
Good job spotting that and letting everyone know. Thank you
Wow, commenters, calm down. I’m pretty sure this gentleman is just trying to help people out with some common sense here, and not trying to pull one over on everyone. A title like this gets views, yes, ok. The information is still valid. Common sense is not always so common, so it is either helpful to you, or harmless to you. I hate hearing people nitpick something like this. Thank you for sharing this, doctor. If nothing else, it will help some of us use a cleaner coffee cup.
Abi Eshleman thank you... this is exactly why I made the video. Not to lay blame, but to bring awareness to this issue for all of us who may not take the time to properly wash our cups and lids. My hope is that this small video helps just one person not get sick or worse. I did this out of love, not from hate.
Indeed - and the idiots seem to be just poised and ready to attack everyone’s posts these days! 😳
I saw people saying the gentleman was at fault because he allowed the cup to get contaminated or asking why he couldn’t see it if it could be seen by someone else from a distance. I can speak to that personally as I now make sure to disinfect my mom’s travel mug and straw sipper cup regularly after noticing a dark spot toward the top rim of the cup a few months ago when I picked her up for an appointment. She is a stroke survivor living in assisted living. The cup is clear with a floral design, and though I could see the yuck, my mother could not, as she is legally blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other. She thought she was cleaning both items sufficiently and had a difficult time seeing what looked to me like a type of mold even when I took the cup apart and showed the spot to her.
None of us are too perfect to miss something like that, and those with limited sight or other issues have to rely on others to help keep them safe. 🙂
Yeah..1st of all people who don't take time to watch through the video are gonna see that title and think there's danger in buying that cup, not too big of a deal but still misinforming as heck. 2nd if he really wants people to be informed then the title should implicate the bacteria, NOT the cup. 3rd, someone about 8 commenters down from you had the point to ask if that bacteria was cultured to see if it was even the culprit! His antibiotics could have finally started working and he may have never been made sick by that particular bacteria. Nitpickers suck for sure but this is actually misleading. 'Bacteria could be hiding in your yeti cups' would've been more legitimate, the cup didn't come anywhere near KILLING. That's not nitpicking. He is a chiropractor and obviously not a very thorough informer, like really it looks more like he's just proud of having the idea, considering he didn't have the guy take the sample to the doctor to check it out.
oh i sure agree with u on that one dear
When you make a video with very strong opinions from a position of authority, especially a licensed healthcare professional. You better believe that people will hold you to a higher standard. As a chiropractor, they do have a legal scope that is defined and must not exceed into the practice of medicine.
Worked at a Sears Parts and Service department for a few years and what was the biggest cause of customer dissatisfaction with any given product? Failure of the customer to read the directions. I find it interesting that Doc Beau has to explain this to us.
He further says that "we" need to contact Yeti to explain to them there is a "flaw" where none exists over a design feature which needs special attention - which Yeti has already addressed in the owners manual.
I also worked in appliance repair etc and a similar issue is filthy refrigerator and Ice maker/machine not being cleaned as required by health dept in commercial Kitchens etc. Mold/mildew are anyplace damp and can make people deathly sick. some people dont even know they must clean dryer lint filter each load.
well, If only the world would read half of what they should. Of course then there is this thing called common sense..
And that's dangerous. The dryer has a bad way of reminding younto clean the lint filter,it's called a fire.duh.people can be real lamebrains
@Mama C my favorite. It quit working and it's a piece of shit. Then you just turn it on and wow it still works
How do you see "bacteria?"
He's a chiropractor...they have magical powers
Justin Ridela if you don’t clean the bacteria is grows rapidly and it’s very easy to see colony growth :)
Let's see...what he saw could have been dried coffee or whatever. If his "patient" was running it through the dish washer every night, the hear would kill ALL bacteria. Once again a chiropractor is arguing with science and facts.
Few ddd#@-"
@@runninglarge The heat isn't perfect and the build-up and design of the lid would likely protect the bacteria from being exposed to the maximum heat of the water. Furthermore, mechanical cleaning is far more effective than heat alone. Water agitation does a lot of that, but works best on broad and flat surfaces than on beveled and intricate surfaces like the cup lid, the edges significantly breaking the speed of the flow. There's a ton of factors here in your "science and facts" that you're oblivious to. You need to manually clean stuff like this because our technology is far from perfect.
Thanks for this! I use a unfolded paper clip to take the seal off.
This may seem like a dumb question. But should you clean under the seal each time you clean the lid?
So it wasn't the cup, it was his failure to clean the cup properly. Don't blame it on the cup!
Exactly what I thought! The patient didn't have common sense to see the build up of crap and think, "Golly, I should wash this crud off?"
It's just a public service announcement, in case people aren't aware stuff gets hidden underneath the seal, and to let Yeti know about the issue in case they want to highlight it (or make it to where the seal is permanently attached).

This is super informative! Thank you! My husband has a Yeti travel mug and I’ve never thought to remove the rubber band and didn’t know the slides on the lid comes off. I’m cleaning them right now!
Once I started having horrible diarrhea and tummy ache no matter what I ate. It went on for a few weeks and I thought I'd suddenly become either very lactose intolerant or celiac or something like that. However after I dropped those from my diet the stomach problems kept persisting. One day I started thinking what is something I have on every meal and I looked at my sodastream bottle of sparkling water and made the horrible realisation that I had not washed the bottle in a while. After washing it, the stomach problems stopped. Wash your stuff people.
It never occurred to me to remove the seals on my thermo mugs since I thought I was washing them well. After watching your video I took a look and was disgusted by what I found under the seals. Using a small brush and pipe cleaners got in all the nooks and crannies of the lid I never really paid attention to before. It is now my firm belief that these companies need to give better instructions on maintaining their mugs so that people do not get sick. Thanks for posting this eye opening video on a disgusting topic.

Not to put the cup in the dishwasher or submerse the cup in sink water. Also avoid the cups whose lid slider is not removable as bacteria can build up under it. Simple cleaning practices.
Clearly it say in the instructions of every yeti product we buy or on their page how to clean every part of the product, it is the costumers responsibility to either read and follow instructions or not.
I have found similar issues with those food containers with rubberized seals. This is especially true if the hollow rubber seal has holes in it and dirt is getting inside of the seal instead of just between the seal and the lid.

Inside EVERY Yeti (well, inside all 10 that I've bought) there are clear, simple instructions about cleaning the product. If someone is too lazy or too clueless to apply the simplest effort of reading the paperwork, THAT is not a "design flaw" on Yeti's part. Otherwise, it's a design flaw that you have to regularly clean the gasket of a front-loading clothes washing machine, that you have to regularly clean your hairbrush, that you have to regularly clean [fill in the blank]. The fault lies solely with the Yeti owner, NOT with Yeti. (I also have my doubts whether this story is even true.)

I don't think he was blaming the cup, just making people aware so they clean the cup right...
This sounds like something straightforward but some people don't actually know they should clean every part of the cup.
So you saw bacteria with your naked eyes?
The makers of the cups know this. It's probably written on the box or leaflet on how to clean them properly. Normally they give a spare silicon ring.
h30202 can confirm the manufacturer advises taking apart the whole lid to wash underneath the rubber gasket. ALL YETIS come with an insert that instructs to remove the rubber gasket and get under it to clean thoroughly.
Efren Medina - Yes, it *is* common sense, but what is really wrong with the U.S. is that no one seems to be able to state an opinion without name-calling and denigrating others. And then there’s the illiteracy.... 🙄
Yeah no the lid isn't problematic it's the person not using common sense.
Ya but those cup companies should warn people to do what he did and pull the seal off and the magnet. I would say a good 75 to 85% don't even know the seal comes off
Every single person I know removes the lids and cleans the seals properly....why add labels? Remove them and let natural selection run the course! Dolts
Common sense is not that common.
Why do you think disposable coffee cups have warnings of hot liquid? Cause a woman spilled her hot coffee on herself and sued because there was no warning! She was awarded millions from McDonald's when she won in court. Companies need to assume that everyone is dumb and put every warning so they can't be sued for something that is common sense.
@@2paranoid2think That's actually false. She sued (and won) not because the coffee was hot but because it was excessively so which resulted in severe burns and hospitalizations.

Just came upon your video. Thanks much for sharing.😊
I think the proper, non clickbait title would be “improper hygiene almost killed my patient.” Or perhaps “laziness almost killed my patient.”
It IS the cup's fault. A better design would operate better in the real world. Product designers' actual, real, literal jobs is to make the product work well in "the wild." If it doesn't, it's a fail.
I don't have a problem with the title. Improper hygiene concerning what? The title gives the specifics and reading the information below the video shows the doctor was not blaming tge Yeti cup. I understood the point perfectly.
I have no issue with Clickbait when it's drawing attention to an issue like this that people should be aware of. Nobody is selling anything here.
mrshoning that’s what you think. The “doctor” here is selling ad space. The clickbait titles get more views, more views get him more money.
@@margaritamondays4985 I guess I won't argue that point, but I'll give him a pass since he's bringing up a valid health concern many people may not think of. Much more useful than people making millions doing nothing but playing video games 😂
not a flaw in design a flaw in lazy humans to clean properly , people are far too lax in their cleaning routines
And are far to lax in their ability to read instructions.
Agreed!
It’s not the Yeti Cup maker, it’s the person that’s not cleaning the cup. It gives clear instructions on how to use
I have both yeti and R-tic cups, when you purchase these items they have instructions inside the cup which explains to take that rubber seal off the lid and clean it.
I agree with previous posts. The owner's negligence was at fault, not YETI as you have titled. You might want to fix that. I would also advise for the patient to NOT use the yeti for drinking shakes. Most shaker cups don't have seals for that reason, it makes them easier to clean and keep sanitary.
Stop blaming the companies and products because idiots buy and misuse certain things
Yeti cups collect bacteria. It made his patient ill. Nobody misused anything. Who hurt you?
I agree. Is this going to court? I think its a week argument for sure.
I didn’t notice that. 🤔 That is kinda harsh.
But I wouldn’t say the cup was misused either. It has never dawned on me either to attempt to disassemble mine to clean it. Dishwashers easily reach 140*, which kills bacteria. Then I promptly take it out & fill it with alcohol, so I figured I was covered. 😜
Eeeewe! I seriously just took off my gasket and it was a little gungee underneath.
I’ve been misusing my instrument! 😱😜
It's not that they misuse them, they should be detailed instructions how to clean the lid. I have one and didn't know the slider could be removed
Good for you on making a genuine PSA that’s not bashing anyone in particular and is actually here for good!! This is an issue that not many people would think of and I’m glad that you have brought it to peoples attention!
I just received a Yeti cup today as a gift and there is a mention of removing the seal to do a thorough cleaning in the care instructions.
He’s completely misguided. I love my Yeti cup because how easy they are to clean. The rubber ring is easily removed by using a dry towel to pinch it together until it pops up. It is very difficult to accomplish this with wet hands, so that might explain his problem. I remove the ring and wash the entire cup after each use and if I’m running the dishwasher that day, all pieces are dishwasher safe, including the rubber ring. I put the ring over a spoke on the top shelf and place the cup over it to keep the ring from going where it shouldn’t. A lot of travel cups have no way to clean the lid, he shouldn’t be complaining about one that does just because someone can’t read instructions.
Doc I thank you so much for this video. For a year and a half I kept getting gum infections over and over. My dentist said I have the beginning of periodontal disease or implant failure. I go to the dentist every six months!!! Since I am a retired cop, investigating skills kicked in.
I started thinking how could this be, all of a sudden, and what have I done differently in the past year and a half. I drink one cup of coffee a day and water in my yeti the rest of the day! My yeti goes with me everywhere! I admit I was not good about washing it and I never thought about taking the lid a part, after all I only put water in it. I wish I could show you a pic of what I found in the lid once taken apart. It was filled with what I am sure was poisoning me. 3 gum infections in that time frame. I purchased a new lid because I was afraid I could not get that one bacteria free enough to trust it again. So far, knock on wood, I have been infection free since March of this year. Can’t wait to share this with my dentist when I feel safe enough (Covid-19) for my next cleaning! I pray this was the culprit. Again thank you so much for posting this. God bless and stay safe!
To keep from damaging your seal on the lid put a finger on each side of the seal and push up that should stretch the seal without causing damage and give you enough slack to get ahold of it for removal. If your fingers are too slick use a towel to help with grip. I do this all the time cleaning my cup lid. I am glad that you are alerting others to clean their cups better people do not realize the build up of bacteria alot of times.
Same here. When he advised to use a fork, I was like, “NOOOO!”
@@gilph3 This is a technique I learned to get o-rings off of icecream machine parts for cleaning.
Forefinger and thumb squeeze together while holding lid and rubber seal. It forms a loop. Just grab loop and seal comes right off with no damage. Fork not needed. 😊
Pretty impressive that he can see bacteria!
Maybe you should know what the innoculate means
The meanings of inoculate include:
1. To communicate a disease to a living organism by transferring its causative agent into the organism.
2. The introduction of a microorganism or an agent of disease into an host organism or a growth medium.
Actually easy when there are millions on top of each other.
Yea most likely was mold he saw..but I'm assuming your being sarcastic
You start to see grime under the seal, it must have been gross to notice that far away.
NEVER trust a chiropractor or ANY medical practitioner who doesn't know the difference between inoculate and contaminate/infect
.
Well, chiropractors aren't medical practitioners lol.
You could have stopped after the word chiropractor.
Never trust a medical practitioner who doesn't know the difference between voilá and wah-LAH.
@@jsd406 lmao... Truer words have never been spoken

Very diplomatic way to tell people they don’t pay attention.
How often should you deep clean the lid if you're a daily tea drinker? I usually do a quick rinse after i drink out my Tumbler.
This is basically the plot of every House M.D episode I stg
It sounds like what almost killed him was not properly cleaning his cups, not the Yeti cup itself.
I'll preface by saying I do not own a Yeti so have never seen the directions for cleaning, but if taking the gasket off requires a fork or other tool that could damage the gasket, AND "properly cleaning" the cup requires removing that gasket, then that is a design flaw in the cup. If I start disassembling an expensive cup and see that I'm about to damage it, I'm VERY likely to conclude that I'm not supposed to do that.
Thanks for this reminder. I see many co-workers using same cup daily. i switch out frequently and soak the tops. denture tablets are great for cleaning inside the cup and for soaking the tops and their components along with the soap. gasket are a bear to clean, but a must. also PLEASE clean your straws. straw brushes are even available in grocery store. Especially if you drink smoothies.
Thank you so much for this informative video! I know it’s about a year late but I just clicked on my RUclips and there you were. You’re right I tried to remove the seal of my son’s yeti cup and it’s extremely difficult. Also, now I know why he is continuously battling a bronchial infection. I will also share this video to another person that I know uses the mug as well. Have a great day if you read this❣️🇨🇦
You can not “See” Bacteria without “telescope” , doctor.
Microscope*, and thats what I was just thinking.
@@callsignbard6655 wow, you totally missed the facetiousness of Ben's comment
@@lindymorgan1107 yeah, I really did. Even I'm mad at my past self.
That's why you wash it by hand daily clean under the seal
My daughter failed to clean her Flask because she figured the water was too cold for bacteria to grow. I don’t care if the water is still cold the next day WASH IT!!! Get a tooth brush and VERY HOT water and scrub!!! If you don’t have a long brush then put some rice in the flask with hot soapy water and shake the crap out of it.
Anyhow… my daughter unfortunately got sick and no doctor knew what was wrong with her. I finally went and got her flask and felt the inside and it was slippery and slimy. I gave her activated charcoal tablets and apple cider tablets. Two activated charcoal tabs with some crackers in the morning and two Apple cider vinegar tabs before bed. I kept her in a brat diet. Two days she was healed completely. Hope this helps someone!
Well done mom!! Way to use your instincts.. Bravo
I had no idea thank you for this information! God bless you!
Ancedotal evidence. At what point was the patient dying?
Haha
The instructions says “ DO NOT CLEAN IN THE DISHWASHER “
www.yeti.com/en_US/are-yeti-tumblers-dishwasher-safe.html
Or...the complete opposite of that.
I do not buy or use ANYTHING that cannot be sterilised in the dishwasher
@@christinericart4554 Dishwashers clean but do not sterilize, you need an autoclave for that...
Higher end dishwashers are equipped with an NSF-approved sterilization cycle.YMMV
So where was the infection? What part of the body.
I have several of these thermal cups but I want to know how to get the gaskets clean .I've had them sit in fawn dish soap and bleach and it's still looks dirty.I clean 1--2 xs a week any suggestions.
This is what needs to go viral, a very useful video, thank you for making it Doc.
Shouldn’t need a public service announcement for common sense! Geesh!
Well common sense is a rare quality and hard to comprehend for most people.
some people dont always think about taking apart every single piece. most people just throw everything into the dishwasher
Oh my gosh! This may be the reason I have been having neck and lower back pain for the past month or two. I was given a Arctic cup as a Christmas present. I have been doing basically the same thing as this patient. I threw it in the dishwasher and take it out the next day. Mine doesn’t have a slider top though, it has a flip up plug thing that closes off the opening. I’m not exactly a lazy slob when it comes to washing things. I have a ceramic egg cooker with a similar rubber gasket in the top. Whenever I’m finished with it, I have always removed and washed the gasket as well as the area beneath it. I honestly never thought to do that on my drinking cup. Wow! Really opened my eyes tonight.
This was very helpful, thank you for making this video.
