One of my mates has had a Yeti Rambler with the bottle cup cap since 7th grade. We're about to graduate from college now and the only way to tell that his bottle isn't new is a sticker he put on it which is faded
Thank you for this review! Just bought my 18oz Yeti today, it came with the Hotshot lid but I bought the straw lid as an extra (for sipping water on the go/in the office)
One the best reviews I have seen in a long time! Ihave the chug lid, but I am not sure that it is okay to use with hot water. I really need hot water since I live in a really cold place. I really love the hanle since Im in university, so I can not go with the hot shot. I was looking to order the standard lid, but It is not rated to be used with hot eater in the yeti website, also It is not available and a cost I would like to avoid. I just wish the chug lid’s threads didn’t soften by with hot water.
The spout cap on the chug lid is awful getting off! I replaced it with the straw lid and it’s perfect, especially at the gym. Not a drop of water spills if it gets knocked over
Hot Shot lid is nice, but its easy to forget you havent closed it and dump it in your bag still open. I painted a little yellow dot on the opener & rim as a reminder. If they're not lined up you remember its still open.
Good point, that can be tricky. I like Hydro Flasks sip lid more, and and one reason is because of how they avoid the hotshot problem you mentioned. There's a red gasket that prevents leaks, and it's intentionally visible through the mouth opening when it's 'closed' and not visible when it's twisted to 'open.' Really helpful to know when it's open or closed, and it also has a handle too. They really did a good job designing that lid imo, and I'm working on a video right now about yetis where I bring this all up. Hoping to post that one in a day or two.
My go to is the chug. I wanted to like the hot shot lid but find I missed the handle on the chug which is super convenient. The hot shot does gets messy.
I keep a pair of clippers handy. Unfortunately this results in small bits of plastic plus a useless lid. In the past I had lots of uses for the lids but these new ones are too shallow. They have converted a multi use cap into a single use cap.
I have 2 Rambler bottles, and they're great. The standard lid works fine, no frills. Downside like the video says, not that good with ice - I've had the face splash issue before. The chug cap is really nice but the inner cap (the clear portion) can get stuck in the bottle but it's great if you carry ice in your bottle. I find it less nasty than straw lids or lids with small caps. I've had the inner cap get completely stuck and only got it off by putting the rambler in the freezer without the black outer cap. The other cap I own is the hot shot lid. This lid is easy to clean but I've had spills with it as I forget when it's fully tightened. I treat it like a tumbler and refrain from having the rambler on the side. The mag cap and cup cap look neat, if I have issues with my current caps I might try for one of those.
The only way it gets stuck is if you tighten it too tight for you to be able to screw back off, or if you are putting carbonated beverages in it which you are not supposed to do.
I have a yeti with the standard lid! I got the chug cap and the magdock i was surprised to find both these lids although easy to use both sweat with ice cold water? The original lid never has ! The straw lid seems the one to get but im not a fan of this type of lid so im back at square one using the standard lid! Incidentally these dont appear to be made anymore? Chug is standard now!
Thanks for the comment. I need to use those YETI lids more with ice water. Other people have mentioned the same thing you did about them sweating like that. Kind of bummed that I don't see the standard lid anymore either. I don't think it was their best lid, but there's something about the simplicity of that design that I'm sure some people like. Not to mention the chug cap being the new standard brings up an issue because there are quite a few people who have experienced stripped threads. It seems mostly related to people who use it for hot drinks, but it's hard to pin it down for sure. We have another video about that issue, and there has been a whole spectrum of comments. Some people have said it's happened to them multiple times, and others comment that people just don't know how to thread lids on right. It's been quite a lively comments section!
Can I use the strawcap without the straw? I'd rather not have plastic in my water all day.Can I just tilt to drink from the straw cap directly or does it leak all over the place? Thank you.
I am looking for a new bottle with a straw cap (around 24 oz). In your big comparison video, you mentioned the Yeti Rambler straw lid being a bit stiff and unenthusiastic compared to other options, especially Hydro Flask. However, on Reddit and other forums people seem to be just as unimpressed with Hydro Flask's newer straw lid. Would you mind to elaborate a bit further on the two mentioned straw lids? Thanks
Which comparison video did you watch? The older one didn't have Owala, and that's honestly one of the better straw lids now. I'd recommend that for a straw lid over YETI or Hydro Flask. Easier to clean everywhere that water touches because it doesn't have a rotating spout. It also is easier to sip from because there's zero air constriction (most straw lids have that small air hole, but Owala's chug opening acts like a much bigger vent). If you're OK with the color choices and the not-as-good handle, Owala might be better than either HF or YETI.
Great summary, with regards to the cup lid all yeti products are expensive 😂 I’ve just bout the straw lid, I’m not fussed about actually sipping the drink so do you think that lid would work with out the straw inside and just the lid on top and tip the bottle up like with a chug cap?
You'd get a little water out, but it wouldn't be much. I actually tested this a couple of weeks ago. I took out the straw, filled the bottle, opened the straw mouthpiece, and turned the bottle at an angle and upside down. It didn't flow very well or consistently for me. There was too much air restriction because the air-relief fitting is pretty small (maybe my fitting was a little dirty though, I'm not entirely sure). You really need to sip on the mouthpiece because that's what creates the suction to help overcome the air restriction. I could also see a potential that water might leak out of the air relief fitting when you have it tilted up so high, so be careful not to get water in your face! So long-story-short, it might work OK, but you'll probably need to sip on the mouthpiece still to get the amount of water that you want. Hope this helps!
@@bottlepro3252thanks for the reply, I ended up ordering the lid and trying it, as you say if you tilt it up to far the relief valve gets blocked and it doesn’t come out but after a few goes you get the hang of it and it comes out fast enough for what I need it to do 👍🏼
I have chug for water, straw for ice mocha, and bottle cup cap for mocha, by the way, the bottle I have is 36oz rambler. You can’t imagine how good is the yeti bottle insulated it, I have full hot mocha ready at 6:30 am, and I can’t take a sip before 11 am. So honestly I think the hot shot is may better for hot water/ warm water, rather than coffee.
Nice, love seeing the different lids being used! That's what we like about how there are so many different options. They really each shine in their own way, so it's hard to pick a definitive "best lid." Interesting point about the Hot Shot. I usually use the Hot Shot with coffee, but only after leaving the lid off for a few minutes while getting other things ready in the morning. That lets the coffee cool down enough for me to be able to drink while driving in the morning. Gotta have my coffee before 11, haha.
I don't have a 46oz to test it personally, but yes it should fit! Their website says the caps fit any size of their rambler bottles (not the tumblers).
Do you think if the straw was removed from its lid , that it would be able to pour, as i am loooking to replace my flip top insulated drink container, used for milk in bedroom for tea and coffee, for tv watching and first drink when we wake up in mornings My present containers worked well at stopping milk going off for a few years, but this last summer here in UK we had a few very humid nights, and milk has gone off by the morning!, the yeti products have a great reputation for keeping things cold for longer , but only the straw lid is one handed to open, like my present ones that you press with one finger and the hinged lid flips open
I have done that to pour hot water into my teacup and it works without the straw. Just be careful as it pours out alot at the beginning then the flow slows down
I just tested it some with my YETI and YETI-brand straw lid. Took the straw out, filled up the bottle, and turned it upside down. It didn't work very well for me. The air relief valve lets so little air through on its own without you creating suction when sucking on a straw, and this really limited the flow and it wasn't always consistent My first thought was that the best lid for what you're talking about is the Hotshot, but that one is pretty difficult to turn one-handed so maybe not. The Magdock could be better because it's a smaller lid to twist off one-handed (compared to their normal chug-style lid that has a big handle...really great for some things, but it's not the easiest for one-handed use). The Magdock also has some pretty good grippy texture on it. You might want to try a different brand though honestly for what you're talking about to get an insulated bottle with a spring-action lid. Just my $0.02!
@@bottlepro3252 I'm wondering the same as the OP of this comment, but I don't want to "pour" out of it, I'd just tilt it and suck on the straw to drink (say at the gym or something), would it work without the plastic straw inside it? I'm very apprehensive above plastic, if someone sold a stainless steel replacement straw I would feel better about it, but I'm also OK using it without one as long as it doesn't leak all over the place. Thank you!
Good luck ever getting the magdock lid off of the yeti once its on there. virtually impossible to get e good enough grip to twist it off once its on. And the rubber seal smells awful and the smell doesnt go away
Yea, you make a good point. The grippy texture on the small spout cap is easy enough to remove, but there's not much of a gripping area for good leverage around the rim of the magdock to get the whole lid off if it's on really tight.
I don't have a kids one to test out, but it looks like it should be the same lids since it's in their Rambler-series of bottles. This is the one I was looking at that should work, so if that's what you have then I think you'll be OK. www.yeti.com/custom-drinkware/21071500026.html
Unfortunately no, they won't work with YETI's Rambler bottles. But YETI has a pretty good list of which of the three Magslide lid sizes fit with which cups. Definitely make sure you get the right size! You can check it out here: www.yeti.com/drinkware/drinkware-accessories/21070060010.html
Yea, the whole lid can be a little tricky to get off because of limited leverage options with how it's designed. The side where the magnet is that sticks out some helps some though.
If they only made a MagDock with a handle, I'd be all-in on that one. Either way, I'm glad they made a bunch of different styles. Gives people plenty of options.
While others strive to keep viewers see the whole of their videos, what you did in 0:39 deserved more likes. Prove me wrong.
Glad you noticed that!

Yea it's hard to go wrong with a good straw lid. Cleaning is a bit of a pain, but there are a lot of good reasons why they so popular!
I'm deciding better two. Isn't the straw lid too slow to get water out?
@@rizwanchoonara977yes and its harder to clean. The lid with the spout is the best one tbh

The straw lid is handy for a truck driver, very easy to grab your bottle and flip up on a hurry for a drink.
