Can’t beat those harmonies. Three brothers, a cousin, and childhood friend - singing since kids. It’s like a Xmas/sleigh song of their car song hit “Little Deuce Coup” - like almost the same tune. 🤓😎
"Little Saint Nick" is a Beach Boys Christmas classic. "Light One Candle" by Peter, Paul and Mary is one of my favorites. Written by Peter Yarrow as a Hanukkah Song, the message transcends the religious and touches the humanity of us all.
This melody is the same as their song, Little Deuce Coupe, that they had released earlier the same year. It was written by Brian Wilson, as was most of The Beach Boys music. There's no record of anyone else recording this song, professionally.
I love how The Beach Boys normally sing about hot rods, and the for Christmas they sing about Santa’s hot rod (sleigh) called the Little Saint Nick. So cute.
Having been a "car guy" since my teens, i always loved the California Car Culture references in this song, especially "candy-apple red with a 4-speed stick." Iconic color on Santa's sleigh with an iconic hotrod transmission choice. Sweet!
I think that out of all the amazing Beach Boy songs, the harmonies on this song are my very favorite!! Absolutely amazing!!. Loving the new hair Amber!!
A Beach Boys song that's a little different, it has horns in the background, is "Darlin'". But the best falsetto voice I ever heard was from Frankie Valli. You already reacted to him and the Four Seasons, but he wasn't singing in his falsetto voice. Please react to "Sherry" by the Four Seasons, it will blow your mind how good he is.
@@bobr4987 Brian may have been the brains of The Beach Boys, but Carl was the heart and soul of the group. He's the one that kept the group together all those year. I love his song "God Only Knows". Candy Girl is a really good song by Frankie Valli too.
Frankie actually had a smaller range than Brian and his falsetto wasn't exactly versatile either yet, I tend to agree Frankie's is the more engaging just because of its unique qualities! Love them both and can't believe both are still actively touring!
Y'all mentioned the great guitar sound of the Beach Boys. Glen Campbell played guitar on a lot of their songs. He even toured with them a lot. There is a great documentary called "The Wrecking Crew". That was a nickname given the top session musicians in L.A. in the early sixties. One of the members was Glen Campbell. In one year in the early sixties he played on more than 500 recordings! He was also a great singer and later became a superstar in his own right. You may want to check out his music as well. Some of his best songs are "Wichita Lineman", "By the Time I Get To Phoenix", "Gentle On My Mind", "Galveston", and his classic "Rhinestone Cowboy".
I’ve loved The Beach Boys ever since I watched them on American Bandstand in 1962, when I was 3 years old. They are my favorite group, and were responsible for my dreams of surfer girls, the sun and beaches in Southern California. I almost moved to Santa Monica in May of 1991, but was talked out of it.
So glad you finally got around to this one. Another great Beach Boys Christmas original is "The Man With All the Toys". They also do great covers of "We Three Kings of Orient Are", "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". Though their entire Christmas album is great. For some more of their regular songs, check out "Kokomo", "California Girls", "Do You Wanna Dance" and "Fun, Fun, Fun". They have so many wonderful songs. It is quite the rabbit hole.
actually, amber, words most used to describe beach boy music were probably 'beach sound', 'california vibe', and 'surfing music', or some variation thereof, all of which referred to exactly the sound that you're talking about.
Most Beach Boys songs are about surfing, chicks, and rides, so when they decided to do a Christmas song, surfing was right out. Can't do that at the North Pole. They could have done a track about Mrs. Claus, but she's portrayed as more matronly than as a hottie, so that left talking about Santa's ride. Thus, we got the only possible Christmas song we could have gotten from the Beach Boys.
Early in their career, the Beach Boys not only sang about surfing, but they also sang about their hot rods with such songs as "Little Deuce Coupe", "Fun, Fun, Fun ('til her daddy takes her T-Bird Away)", "Shut Down", and "409". "Little St. Nick" was the Christmas version of those songs, but instead of a souped up car, it was about Santa's souped up reindeer and his sleigh! Another great Beach Boys Christmas song is "Santa's Beard".
The Beach Boys and upbeat music go hand in hand. My favorite - "I Can Hear Music". For something more laid back - "In My Room". Both would be excellent choices in a future reaction video.
Yay!! My Boys The Beach Boys! We just were listening to this in the car a bit ago!! Glad you guys liked it. Hey Jay! Got all the bells out of the beard, lol? You are one Patient Papa!!
The Beach Boys have an entire Christmas album, and it’s fantastic! There are more great songs that Brian Wilson wrote, plus some classic Christmas songs - all with those beautiful harmonies. Look up Beach Boys Christmas Album and it will pop up. “Santa’s Beard” is really cute / about a memory when they were young and one of Brian’s brothers tried to yank Danta’s beard off, lol. Cute song, the girls would probably like it. Merry Christmas!
I always loved how they make Santa Claus into a drag racer. They did a Christmas song, but still made it pure Beach Boys.If you love the guitar of the Beach Boys & other surf music, then y'all definitely need to check out Dick Dale, the King of Surf Guitar. You've probably heard some of his instrumentals in movies. His song "Misirlou" (with the Del-Tones) is a surf rock standard. The man was phenomenal! Other songs of his to check out include "NITRO", "Pipeline"( see if you can find the video of him performing this song with SRV), "Jungle Fever", "Bandito", "Surf Beat", "The Wedge" "Let's Go Trippin'" & his instrumental cover of "Ghost Riders in the Sky". But DEFINITELY start with "Misirlou" - your mind will be blown!
Thank you so much, my nephew has had muscular dystrophy since he was eight and in June 2016 had a heart transplant!!!It has been very hard but we still have him with us by the grace of God! Bless you and your children! Lots of Love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Saw them in concert two weeks ago. Only one of that group still touring and singing is Mike Love. The lead singer in this one. He was the lead singer all along except for few exceptions. He was great. The show was great. Very tight band currently. He is 80 years old now, and still sounds much the same. It was a blast. They were so great at what they did. "Help Me Rhonda" is a little more upbeat. "Fun Fun Fun till her Daddy takes the tbird away" another upbeat. Actually, there are quite a few upbeat as well as a lot of great "easy" listening, beachy songs, too.
Please understand that the Beach Boys are from Redondo Beach, California. My dad and uncle went to high school with Dennis and Brian Wilson. My dad is the same age as Dennis as for my late uncle was Brian's age. They had that peppy California loving sunshine vibe til Brian fired his dad as band manager and producer, they didn't want to make "singles" they wanted to make albums. That's when the Pet Sounds album created a whole new vibe and tone.
The Beach Boys have actually written a fair bit of original christmas songs. On their 1964 ChristMas Album they had 5 original songs and a bunch of covers of classics.
The Beach Boys had a hit with the song "Little Deuce Coupe," about a hot-rod car, in late summer and fall of 1963, so "Little St. Nick," which was released later that year in December 1963, is a play on that title and is about Santa's souped-up sleigh.
Oh that is so great, I worked for MDA and also coordinated their charity events...thank you! Love this song!!! Also some of my faves are Johnny Mathis "Winter Wonderland" (my grandmotjer loved him & always a family favorite) and Dean Martin (reminds me of my Dad) "marshmallow world"!!!!
The Beach Boys' version of "We Three Kings of Orient Are" and Brian Wilson's "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" are the best renditions of those songs I've ever heard.
There really is nothing to talk about. The Beach Boys and, of course, Brian Wilson are genius. Musical gold and as people, we know they are a national treasure. If the sun had a sound, it would be The Beach Boys. Nearly impossible to make a Xmas song that becomes a true classic.
Sometimes it is popular artists singing Christmas songs with their own spin on them. This is a Beach Boys song that happens to be a Christmas song. This was a staple in my house growing up.
Little Saint Nick was written and recorded on the Beach Boys Christmas album which dropped in 1964. All the complements go to Brian Wilson and Mike Love. Lots of covers, but the Beach Boys were the first!!!
Check out John Denver's Christmas for Cowboys and A Baby Just Like You from his Rocky Mountain Christmas album. Beautiful songs. Also, Kenny Loggins Celebrate Me Home. Nice non-traditional songs with beautiful feeling.
1979 John Denver and the Muppets covered this in Christmas special. In 1997 Hanson covered it and again it was covered in 2011 by She and Him. Most likely this is the version you’ve heard overtime.
Pentatonix did a cover of this as well as Lady A. If you go a little older, John Denver did this with the Muppets. Brian Wilson (formerly with Beach Boys) also did this solo.
Another good one for Christmas is Alan Jackson's "Let It Be Christmas". I hope you guys can react to it. It's such a beautiful song for this time of year and the chorus has a great message that we really need to hear in these current times.
The Beach Boys other passion besides surfing was Hot Rod cars and they had some great car songs. Little Duce Coupe, Shutdown, Fun Fun Fun ( Till Daddy Takes The T-Bird Away), Little Old Lady From Pasedena and my favorite 409. Check them out, all these are up tempo too.
Y’all should try listening to some BB albums such as Surf’s Up, Friends, Sunflower, Wild Honey, Holland, Beach Boys Today, Smiley Smile, even Pet Sounds to hear the best of the guys. They recorded SO much more than the surfin and car songs.
It also appears as first track of side 2 of the Muppet Christmas album that features John Denver. "Little Saint Nick" was performed by the Electric Mayhem.
Great charities selected this week. I love the charity idea. You should react to Youll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers. (Pop version of the song that Jerry Lewis would sing at the end of every MDA telethon.). There are also videos of whole stadiums in Liverpool singing it at soccer matches. Arm in arm. (It’s originally from a musical so pick the Gerry and the Pacemakers version).
Fun song! Since you enjoyed John Lennon’s “War is Over! Happy Christmas!” then another Christmas banger is Paul McCartney and Wing’s “Wonderful Christmastime!” Enjoy. :)
When I was a kid, my folks had a friend named Forrest who looked JUST like Mike Love... everyone called him "Tree" though, they said he wasn't big enough to be a forest... lol. Man, Dennis was good looking... so sad what happened to him.
I love The Beach Boys songs and beautiful harmonies including their Christmas songs. Hanson has done a version of this on their first Christmas album called Snowed In. 😊🌲🎵
For Female Friday: Ronnie Spector - ‘Be My Baby’ Bette Midler - ‘From a Distance’ Toni Braxton - ‘Un-Break My Heart’ Whitney Houston - I Have Nothing’ Roberta Flack - ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ Other notables: Christopher Cross - ‘Sailing,’ Kayne Brown - ‘Worship You,’ Kool and The Gang - ‘Celebration,’ Dan Fogelberg - ‘Same Old Lang Syne’ Luther Vandross - ‘Dance With My Father’
Brian Wilson is a genius!!! He still tours... I got to see him and The Zombies a couple years ago, right before the pandemic. He still sounds amazing! He is actually got to be touring again soon along with Chicago.
Little Saint Nick is a rework of the words to their hit song Little Duece Coupe but the same music. Always fantastic harmonies thanks to genius Brian Wilson. At 79 just released a piano album of his greatest songs!
This is the original version of the song, written by Brian Wilson, who wrote most of the songs for the group. This one is from 1964. Since you asked, Beach Boys music is feelgood music all the way. I was lucky enough to see them several times live & their concerts were packed with people just having a good & peaceful & loving time, getting lost in the music, with everybody singing along on every song. Quite magical, actually! However, they did have some beautiful ballads. God Only Knows & In My Room are 2 of their best.
Every Mall played this song since before both of you were born. Dad (Me) would dance with his girls when they were in the Santa photo line at 4 and 2. Now 40 and 37. This song was new when I was their size and I'm 60
Hey you guys, I’ve been enjoying the your reaction videos for about 6 months now & I have to say, y’all do a great job. I’m a 58 year old female & grew up with all this great music. I love that y’all enjoy it so much & I appreciate very much that y’all are bringing this great music back & giving it life to younger generations. For some great Christmas music, please check the 5 amazingly talented ladies that make up a group known as Celtic Woman. They are all awesome, especially the beautiful fiddle player, she dances & plays a mean fiddle. They will blow your minds. My favorites are Carol of the Bells & Little Drummer Boy.
Really enjoying your Christmas reactions. I'd like to recommend checking out Bruce Springsteen " Santa Claus is Coming to Town" , live, Run D.M.C. " Christmas in Hollis", and The Kinks "Father Christmas". Merry Christmas to you guys and all the RSR family.🎄
You mean there are cover versions of this song?! I love that you love The Beach Boys....I grew up with them.....native So Californian, here! They have more than just "beachy vibe" music.....Try "In My Room"...or the whole "Pet Sounds" album...definitely more moody music. This song, however, touches on their connection to the car culture aspect of California....if you listen to the lyrics, it describes Santa's sleigh in terms of a custom hot rod!
The Muppets' Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem's cover of this song is also well-knownj. The Muppets recorded a classic christmas album with John Denver in 1979 that has become a classic. My favorite cut from the album is 'The Peace Carol,' which I don't think I've heard anywhere else.
I love that you two are checking out music from my era-bless you for that. Have you heard Home Free's Mary Did You Know? Spectacular! I love music from all eras.
You were wondering about how tropical can be festive for the holidays. Here in Florida people put lights in palm trees but i have never been able to get into that.
Probably not enough time for it, but a Christmas song I enjoy is the 1981 song “Christmas Wrapping” by the new wave group, The Waitresses. You may have heard it before? Got to do it with the lyrics on screen though. Cool song! Merry Christmas!
Hi Guys. Thank you for all your “Reactions to…..” videos. I love watching you discovering the music I grew up to. Wishing you and your Family a very Merry Christmas! All the Best for 2022 😊🤗
She & Him is a cool duo with Zooey Deschanel - they have a very retro sound and sometimes beachy sound. They do a really nice cover of this on their Christmas Album. And you already know Zooey can sing perfect Christmas songs from Elf.
The Beach Boys wrote this song and made it sound like their own style.
Well duh if they wrote it , it’s theirs….
I was just dancing around with my 2 year old to this song. The whole Beach Boys Christmas album is great!!!
I use to do the same thing with my daughter, she is now 48 years old. Love their Christmas Album.
@@mirandaanderson9160, yep! My mom danced with me to it when I was a kid. It is a timeless record. You’ve got to keep the tradition alive! Haha…
The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping” was a 1980s Holiday hit that rocks! I think your family would enjoy it.
YES I love this song “Christmas Wrapping “ love it need to check them out
It is NOT Christmas in my world until I hear The Waitresses and of course sing along no matter who wants me to...or not.. lol
One of my favourite songs
Can’t beat those harmonies. Three brothers, a cousin, and childhood friend - singing since kids. It’s like a Xmas/sleigh song of their car song hit “Little Deuce Coup” - like almost the same tune. 🤓😎

"Light One Candle" by Peter, Paul and Mary is one of my favorites. Written by Peter Yarrow as a Hanukkah Song, the message transcends the religious and touches the humanity of us all.
I thought little saint Nick was the name of Jeffrey Epsteins island!?
Light One Candle is amazing, love it!
I was a little boy in 1964 when it was released...still one of my favorite Christmas songs .... Just makes you feel good
This is such a feel good song. If I want Christmas vibes and want to feel warm, I listen to Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad.
This melody is the same as their song, Little Deuce Coupe, that they had released earlier the same year. It was written by Brian Wilson, as was most of The Beach Boys music. There's no record of anyone else recording this song, professionally.
She and him. Did a version of this song
I don't think you've reacted to any of their car songs. Little Deuce Coupe and 409 are essential Beach Boys listens.
The Muppets
McFly in the UK
Some similarities... certainly not the same.
The Beach Boys were great. I still love em to this day. Even though this is a Christmas song, you can still tell its them 🎶🎄🎶🎅🎶🎁🧑🎄🎶🤶
I love how The Beach Boys normally sing about hot rods, and the for Christmas they sing about Santa’s hot rod (sleigh) called the Little Saint Nick. So cute.

This is basically their song Little Deuce Coupe with new lyrics, making Santa's sleigh sound like a hot-rod .
A light-hearted classic. Another must hear during the holidays. Love to all!

You already reacted to him and the Four Seasons, but he wasn't singing in his falsetto voice. Please react to "Sherry" by the Four Seasons, it will blow your mind how good he is.
"Darlin' " was Carl Wilson's song, really miss him.

"Candy Girl"

Frankie had a better falsetto voice...because he wore tighter underwear 🤣🤣
Frankie actually had a smaller range than Brian and his falsetto wasn't exactly versatile either yet, I tend to agree Frankie's is the more engaging just because of its unique qualities! Love them both and can't believe both are still actively touring!

Yes Blue Christmas
Absolutely, it's so special.
100% agree
Yes please do

For Female Friday:
Ronnie Spector - ‘Be My Baby’
Bette Midler - ‘From a Distance’
Toni Braxton - ‘Un-Break My Heart’
Whitney Houston - I Have Nothing’
Roberta Flack - ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’
Other notables:
Christopher Cross - ‘Sailing,’
Kayne Brown - ‘Worship You,’
Kool and The Gang - ‘Celebration,’
Dan Fogelberg - ‘Same Old Lang Syne’
Luther Vandross - ‘Dance With My Father’
This was probably the creative spark they got for Christmas after their record "Lil Deuce Coupe",imo.

The Beach Boys played some of the best dance music ever ! Thank you for your Christmas Special ! You make me smile ! : )
Every Mall played this song since before both of you were born. Dad (Me) would dance with his girls when they were in the Santa photo line at 4 and 2. Now 40 and 37. This song was new when I was their size and I'm 60
Love that sweater Jay, and The Beach Boys too !
I believe Jan and Dean also did "Little Deuce Coupe" Best car song ever!
The Beach Boys entire hristmas album is good. Their version of Frosty the Snowman is the definitive version, IMO.
I’m glad you guys did this one for your Christmas special. Hoping that some of my suggestions make their way into the special also 🤞🏼😊
She reminds me so much, of my first grade teacher in Kansas, that ALL the kids adored.
It's their harmonies that are so incredible.... and are so very Beach Boys...no one like them ...
Merry Christmas Darling by Phil Vassar. He has numerous hits in country radio. A deep dive into his music is a must.
Beach Boys Little Saint Nick, love it
The Band's "Christmas Must Be Tonight" is the best of them all!
For something a little different from the Beach Boys (non-Christmas) check out "Heroes and Villians"
All the Best for 2022
😊🤗
A most Happy Christmas to your whole family! More Beach Boys Christmas song, The Man With All the Toys!
AN ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR CHRISTMAS CLASSIC,, MARGARET WHITING & JOHNNY MERCER "BABY,, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE" 🎁🎄🎅
She & Him is a cool duo with Zooey Deschanel - they have a very retro sound and sometimes beachy sound. They do a really nice cover of this on their Christmas Album. And you already know Zooey can sing perfect Christmas songs from Elf.
