I'm just wondering - do you list some items yourself as well or do you mainly do wholesale?

Would you guys please help me? I’m new to whatnot and I’m struggling getting setup for my first show. I need help setting up giveaways etc… Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do you deal with cleaning your items especially the special fabrics like cashmere and wool?

I am about to start a depop. Do you think it will be good as ebay if I list every day? I used to list 30 or more a day on ebay and it would go well. Just tired of ebay and over the years it has gotten way worse. I was only on ebay but now feel depop might be better. I have lots of vintage too. considering mercari too

Couldn't agree more! I started feeling some of the 2024 sentiment that "sales just aren't what they used to be", so I started asking my clients if that really reflected their actual experience. It's true that some experienced a slump, but I found that many were thriving. One guy told me he just had to start thinking outside the box, and his sales doubled in 2024. Still lots of opportunity, especially if you know your numbers!

I’m really curious how people are getting more than $24 on the cutest little Y2K pieces because I’ve had plenty in my shop that I’ve had to let go for closer to the $15 range and I know for certain I’m using all the right keywords because those items will get tons of likes but low offers. Maybe I’m just not holding out long enough. I’m sure it doesn’t help that I can’t use my eBay account until I pay off the $900 from a mistake that my ex made on my account. I’m currently using Mercari, Poshmark and Depop.

Regarding eBay - I was selling on there but didn’t like the return policy. (30 days to return ). How do you deal with the uncertainty of your bottom line

I had a shirt from high school I don’t wear anymore. I was going to donate it even after being a reseller because I didn’t see the value. Because of the Y2K trend I put it up and it sold that day.

Yes! I often complain about the prices of clothing at thrift stores. So- I decided to literally take note of all sales/promotions-sale days/events, color tag sales, etc. and hit those stores based on that. And now I am spending less for product to resell. It’s a lot of tracking, but it works!

I also found a stunning Sundance dress...thread was broken across bottom flounce seam about 6 inches across. How low quality! They can't even keep their pieces together!

I assume when you say you sell larely to wholesaleclients, thrift stores want your expertise in curating banger fashion, so you do wholesale business with them? Otherwise, how is it done?

Your so sweet. I could never find the way to say what you just said the way you said it. You are truly talented. I would have said Your problems are you fault. You are the problem. Quit picking up trash. Figure out your numbers and your metrics. DO MORE RESEARCH! the platforms are not the problem the items you're picking up are. Make a plan, do better. You can trun things around but its going to take A LOT of work. But you can do it. If your struggling consider getting a mentor, or 4. The group can help you if your stuck. But you have to make the effort to get better.

Never pick up an item because of material alone. 100% silk, 100% cashmere etc. can still be a bad buy

Don’t you need to take the platform fee off the sale price and then subtract the COG so it would be $24.75???

Always excellent advice as usual

I want to tell you about a funny thrift item I found for 25 cents. It was a men’s western shirt with a great brand for people who like to do reenactments. I know that’s a weird niche to be interested in, but there you go that’s who I am. So I’m looking at this shirt and I’m thinking wow this is awesome and then I noticed that the upper arm had a hole in it. Now, normally I would not buy a shirt with a hole in it, but this was a shirt that would sell for approximately $30 and it was also a shirt that would be used by people who might not hate that it had a hole in it. I know those people and a hole would just be part of their story. So I bought the shirt and it sold within a week for full asking price. That was a time when I was listening to my instincts. I didn’t always do that but it’s a good lesson to remember because like you were saying, I knew exactly who was going to be buying that shirt and that I could buy it damaged and it would still sell. Listening to you I’m remembering some of my home runs, but I’m also remembering how many I bought that I just thought should be a good sellers but they didn’t make me excited and they were pretty basic and I realize now that I need to be careful with the basics I’m getting. Some are desirable and BOLOs and some are just ordinary. I actually thrift ordinary for myself, but I get that stuff easy, cheap and there’s plenty of it.

Great advice! I have a really small bins location that only rotates only clothes 3 times a day. Not very many great brands so I feel I have to get creative with the style based sourcing if I want to be able to keep my COGs low. You know beer goggles? I think sometimes I get “sourcing at the bins goggles” because I will convince myself something is worth the pickup at the bins and then when I go to photograph, and think to myself “Whyyyyy!” Cheaper COGs at the bins (and the fact that there’s just very limited choosings) definitely clouds my judgement sometimes.
