    '71 was a darn good year, for sure, Randy. Classic Rod the Mod and Van the Man! I'm a fan of the Bob Welch years of the Mac as well. Hunky Dory and What's Going On are hard to beat. Great entry! 😎🎶

      @RandyforRoyals 3 часа назад

      Rod probably had his best year in 1971. I'm glad to see another fan of the Bob Welch era as I though some great Fleetwood Mac songs came out of it. Hunky Dory is my favorite Bowie album and What's Going On is indeed a classic. I actually had another stack of 1971 records that I forgot for the video. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    As 1971 is the year of my birth I'm not going to complain! Great selection Randy, I really like those two Alice Cooper records and only recently found 'Killer' on vinyl. I'm a fan of The Band but have never still never heard Cahoots. Also There is a really good book all about the music of 1971 by David Hepworth, called '1971 - Never a Dull Moment'. I've just started it. He goes through the year one month at a time and goes in-depth on a lot of the artists/records you showed. Cheers, James

      @RandyforRoyals 10 часов назад

      Thanks James. That sounds like an interesting book. Never A Dull Moment was the name of a 1972 Rod Stewart album, but I guess that is okay. I actually picked up Killer just last year. After doing the video, I realized that I had pulled some other records that I forgot about including T-Rex, Elton John and Ten Years After among others. Take care.

    I was really disappointed with the latest Cactus Blossoms, feeling their whole cool 50s sound was gone. They sounded like any other "Americana" band on the new one. Maybe I need to go back and listen again.- JT

      It was definitely a more subdued record than previous releases but I grew to enjoy it after several listens. It doesn't rival their debut which I think is their best but the song "Out Of My Mind (On Sunday)" but it has become one of my favorites. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hi Randy!!! Well done and great entry to Alex's contest..... B.B. Cook, that was a fun one! What an awesome year in music, for any music lover the early 70's are all great choices and you have the records to prove it. Two Alice Cooper releases, McCartney, Uriah Heep x2, Zeppelin and the Stones. cheers and be well

      Thanks Cristian. I actually had another stack of records I forgot with Ten Years After, T-Rex and others, so it was really a great year. B.B. Cook, the next great blues artist! We got a foot of snow here and have kind of been hibernating. Hope all is well with you.

    Great records. You're still going to do a 1969 and 1970 video I hope. I love Muswell Hillbillies, that's one of my favorite Kinks albums. Who's Next, Townes, Blue, Aqualung...1971 was a great year for music.

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals 3 дня назад

      Thanks. I have 1969 almost ready. Trying to figure out if I should do some of the tags or jump back into my series. I couldn't believe all the great music that came out in 1971 and I even forgot a pile of records I pulled. Take care.

    wow, that really was an incredible year. For some reason I thought Tupelo Honey and Sticky Fingers came out in 1969....they're both later than I thought. Great seeing the James Bond record. Good luck in the contest!

      I actually found a stack I pulled that had Ten Years After, T-Rex, Elton John and others and forgot. 1971 was amazing. Let It Bleed was the Stones album from 1969. I'm trying to get most of the Bond records. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Great picks,Randy..Alice Cooper is an essential album.. Carole King..great choice...On a personal level,rather than picking best,or greatest ..The Rolling Stones,no doubt Sticky Fingers was a fantastic album..but..Brian was gone / the magic was gone...I know/life goes on..but the Stones were never the same/anyways ..my picks 2 Debut albums. Carly Simon & Crazy Horse Doors/LA Woman Nick Drake Bryter Later/(my favorite N.D. album) Peter Hammill/debut solo album by the Singer for Van der graaf generator Stephen Stills II Rascals/Peaceful World Le Orme/Collage..( Italian Prog Rock..bienissimo.)

      I actually had the Crazy Horse album pulled but I forgot a pile of records which makes 1971 even better. I have Nick Drake's two other albums but have not picked up Bryter Later up as of yet. You have some interesting other picks. Cheers.

    That's got to be a reissue of Surf's Up, looks too clean and shiny...its so rare that I see a vintage copy without the seemingly ubiquitous ringwear that it looks a bit jarring without it lol. You'll have to pull many of these out again when you get to your 1971 video - a great year in. music for sure!

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals 4 дня назад

      My Surf's Up copy is an Analogue Productions reissue and I think that one is getting hard to find without being expensive. I even forgot another stack of records that I had pulled which included Elton John, T-Rex, Ten Years After and Crazy Horse among others.

    Of course, this is an awesome year. How cool to have been about 17 in 1971. I’m glad you put “Surf’s Up” on here. A lot of people dismiss that album. James Bond! “Killer” is Alice Cooper best album. Just recently picked up that Moody Blues. As a grade schooler I can remember hearing all those Carole King albums on AM radio in the car all the time. Led Zeppelin IV HAS to be here. RAM might be a good album but the cover sucks. “Who’s Next “ also has to be here. Aqualung and LA Woman👍. No Sticky Fingers on vinyl? Come on Randy🤦🏻‍♂️ lol. Great entry!

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals 4 дня назад

      I agree on Killer for Alice Cooper and the Surf's Up album has grown on my over the last couple of years. That Mood Blues album is pretty new for me as well. Who's Next and Led Zeppelin IV are two of the most important rock albums and my favorites from each band. I bought The Stones vinyl box set that went up to Let It Bleed, so I am working on it. There was another pile of records I pulled that I forgot which included Ten Years After, Elton John, T-Rex and others which makes 1971 even more amazing. Thanks for watching.

  • @TCatsDeepVinylTraxx
    @TCatsDeepVinylTraxx 5 дней назад

    1971 was a great year, but I think the first part of the 70's decade had the best music/albums, but since I grew up during that time and really started paying attention to music then, that fact might have something to do with that. All of those were great albums. Love that B.B. King album, one of his best. Over the past few years, I think Salisbury has suddenly become a contender for the best Uriah Heep album. For years, I thought the best one was The Magician's Birthday, but now I'm beginning to wonder after getting more familiar with Salisbury. Ram is great and definitely one of McCartney's best and the debut John Prine album is a very tough one to surpass, he really set the bar high for himself starting with that album. Who's Next is my 2nd favorite album from The who with Quadrophenia coming first (most of the time anyway). Aqualung is also amazing (or should I say fantastic), just so many great albums in 1971.

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals 5 дней назад

      I probably need to listen to Salisbury more as well as I would probably pick Demons and Wizards but they have so many classic albums. Prine's debut is indeed a high bar but it's really hard for me to pick a favorite as I love so many. It's really difficult to chose between those two Who albums. I lean towards Who's Next but they are both near the top of my favorite albums. I really love the Steven Wilson remix of Aqualung and it is "fantastic." Thanks for watching.

    Good to see you back Randy and I hope your holidays were great. Nice buy with the Steven Wilson disc, I haven't heard that particular one, but I have enjoyed his remix albums as much as his regular ones. I am familiar with "Harmony Codex" though which is what some of the remixes are based on, so I would imagine it's a pretty good album. I am familiar with SFA's "Fuzzy Logic" and actually love that album. I've been a fan of their music for a long time, but I have nothing from them on vinyl unfortunately. Great find! Very cool $5 finds! Wow, even the Mike Campbell album, what a score! I used to have the Uriah Heep "Fallen Angel" album, and there were a few great songs on there. I've also been meaning to get some Father John Misty, but haven't had any luck finding any up here. Anything that has ties to Fleet Foxes has been on my radar for a while, and I've been looking for his albums ever since he parted ways with them, but to no avail. So, there is another band to add to my radar, The Surfragettes, I haven't heard of them before, but it sounds intriguing. Nice David Alvin compilation, would love to find that one out there. It's always great to find anything by XTC, I'm also working on building up my collection from them. Amazing finds!

      Thanks Mike. This will be my second Steven Wilson album as I do have Hand. Cannot. Erase. I actually misspoke about Fuzzy Logic as I thought I had the album but it is a different one that I have. Now that I have some extras, I need to get the album proper. The one I have is on CD as well. I did have a Dirty Knobs single that came out for RSD but finally have album now. I think that Fallen Angel is an underrated Uriah Heep album but I will say that I do like David Byron more than John Lawton as a vocalist although I think Lawton does a fine job. This was the first album of Father John Misty's that I have found and I only have one Fleet Foxes album and I do need to look for more. I will get anything associated with Dave Alvin as I am a big Blasters fan. I still have a couple of XTC albums to get. I always enjoy your comments. Have a great New Year.

    Jumping back into the comments section. I've had an itch to pick up a Columbo box set that needs to be scratched now. That Columbo set plays in the original aspect, correct? (I've watched some of the early episodes chronologically on Tubi. The picture quality was great, but the commercials spoiled the experience.) I'll second your opinion that 2001 was a little bit cold. My complaint about Once Upon a Time in the West is that the late '60s hair and makeup was a bit if a distraction.

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals 26 дней назад

      I think that Columbo is in the original aspect of 1.33:1 full frame. Since I watch a lot of old films, I don't pay attention to that a lot. You really get to see the hair and makeup with the extreme closeups that Leone uses. 2001 was a very influential film but I do return to the ones I had ahead of it a lot more. Have a great weekend.
