    Night of the Hunter still holds up, absolutely love his singing in it. Ain't that a Shame is a rocking tune. I love the early Gunsmoke, Chester was great. Keep these coming Randy!

      Thanks Sam. Robert Mitchum did a whole album of calypso songs. I love most of Fats Dominos hits and "Ain't That A Shame" is a great one. I'm a Dennis Weaver fan and I always prefered Chester to Festus. Thanks for watching.

    Another great roundup. Night of the Hunter is a classic and in my top 25 of best movies of all time. Another favorite for me is The Trouble with Harry. My dad had a copy of Bill Haley and His Comets Rock Around the Clock and I remember spinning that record as a kid. Great stuff.

      It's good to see another Night Of The Hunter fan. It's a shame Charles Laughton didn't direct any other movies. The Trouble With Harry is a fun Hitchcock picture. Bill Haley was an important artist in the spread of rock and roll. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    This is a fantastic series! Night of the Hunter is one of my all-time favorite movies. Mitchum in Cape Fear (not until 1962) is incredible, too. I still watch Alfred Hitchcock Presents on MeTV. And so many great records! Thanks for this fun video, Randy.

      Mitchum played a great easy-going character in a lot of movies but could also play a frightening villain. I think that Alfred Hitchcock Presents had a big influence on The Twilight Zone and some of the stories were similar in feel. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hey Randy….I’ll give this a shot on the categories I think I can (hope I got the years right for these…lol)
    TV Show-The Honeymooners
    Song -Ain’t That A Shame -Fats (just edges out The Great Pretender)
    Movie-To Catch A Thief

      Thanks Doc. I really need to add The Honeymooners to the collection because it would probably made my honorable mentions if I had a copy. I do love that Alfred Hitchcock movie and you might see a few more in our top 100 series. I'm glad we agree on Fats although I do like The Platters.

    I like that rock & roll started appearing here. You chose some great songs like Tutti Fruity and 16 Tons, but I like Ain't That a Shame the best also. I won't specify my favorite movies, but three of the four you mentioned will show up on our 100 favorites that we're doing with the guys. I've been watching many of those Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes on late night tv. Great video Randy. Love this series.

      I don't think that Fats Domino gets enough credit for his importance in the development of rock 'n' roll. I guess you did get a sneak peak of a least one movie that you had and might be coming in our top 100 picks. There were some great episodes on that Alfred Hitchcock series and a true inspiration for the later Twilight Zone, which I also loved. Thanks for watching.

    In The Wee Small Hours".. I have listened to 3 or 400 times when I would play it nightly at the French restaurant I managed at Lake Tahoe ! Great mood music..I just picked up "Ol' Rockin' Ern" on a beautiful copy I found on my last dig in Carson City.. Sixteen Tons 1965 version I was directed to check out. I like Ernie's original. I need a copy of "Bad Day Ate Black Rock"

      In The Wee Small Hours would be a great album to spin when things are winding down after a tough day at work. That Tennessee Ernie Ford pickup is a great one as it has some of his best "boogie" titles. I'm not sure I know the 1965 version of "16 Tons." Will have to search it out. Bad Day At Black Rock has a great Spencer Tracy performance and Robert Ryan could play a bad guy with the best of them.

    I can’t argue with any of your choices Randy. Gosh, it’s hard to narrow these down - it’s almost painful, lol, to leave some choices off, like “Maybelline”, “Sixteen Tons”, “Mystery Train”, “Cattle Call”, by Eddy Arnold, and Prez Prado’s “Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White”, and it hurts to leave of “Night Of The Hunter”, but my personal favorites for songs are, “Mr Sandman” by The Chordettes, “Cry Me A River”, by Julie London, “Satisfied Mind”, by Porter Wagoner, “Folsom Prison Blues”, by Johnny Cash, and “Smoky Joes Cafe” by The Robins.. For movies, my top 5 are, “Blackboard Jungle”, “Marty”, “Rebel Without A Cause”, “Bad Day At Black Rock”, and “Mister Roberts” Nice video again Randy!

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  5 месяцев назад +1

      I like the songs you chose and "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Cry Me A River" were strong considerations. I think the Prez Prado song is the only one that I don't have. Marty does have a great performance by Ernest Borgnine and Mister Roberts almost made my list. I always appreciate seeing your choices. Take care.

    I've got the Frank Sinatra album; think it was also one of the earliest 12" LP's. My very first concert was Fats Domino, a free show at a local fair. Don't remember anything about it other than that I went with my parents. Bad Day At Black Rock, such a memorable title but I have never seen it, sounds like I should change that. Another intriguing list and rock & roll starting to make its presence felt. Cheers!

    • @RandyforRoyals
      @RandyforRoyals  5 месяцев назад +1

      That is a cool first 12" LP to acquire as mine was an Herb Alpert album. It is still quite special to think that you saw a rock pioneer in Fats Domino even if you don't have much of a recollection. I think that Bad Day At Black Rock is an important film to see and Spencer Tracy gives a great performance. Quite a bit of early rock and roll is on the horizon. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.

      Thanks Neil. I do have quite a few 50's and 60's TV series on DVD and one of the great things is seeing all the character actors appearing in those series as well as spotting a future star now and then, early in their career. I do love Rififi and there may be another French heist film on the horizon.

  • @bruce5565
    @bruce5565 5 месяцев назад +1

    Good Evening Randy - This was a solid year in film for me. I have not heard of the French movie ‘Rififi’ - being a heist movie it may be on par with ‘Le Cercle Rouge’ (1970). Will check it out. My No 1 film is ‘Bad Day At Black Rock’, with Spencer Tracy & Robert Ryan, Dir: John Sturges. All time classic with a well-deserved win for Spencer Tracy at ‘The Cannes Film Festival’. My No 2 is Nicholas Ray’s ‘Rebel Without A Cause’, with James Dean & Natalie Wood. At No 3 I have the French thriller ‘Diabolique’, with Simone Signoret, Dir: Henri-Georges Clouzot, who also Directed ‘The Wages of Fear’(1953), with Yves Montand, remade as ‘Sorcerer’(1977) by William Friedkin. I also enjoyed Robert Aldrich’s ‘Kiss Me Deadly’, with its very interesting ending !
    I also give mention to four further films starting with one of the best of the Ealing Comedies from the 1950’s, ‘The Ladykillers’, with Alec Guinness & an all star cast. There is also ‘East Of Eden’, with James Dean and Raymond Massey, based on the novel by John Steinbeck. I also found Otto Preminger's 'The Court-Marshal of Billy Mitchell', engrossing from start to finish, starring Gary Cooper. My final mention is for Michael Anderson’s ‘The Dam Busters’, with Michael Redgrave and Richard Todd. A dramatization based on the true story of the 1943 bombing raid on the dams of the Ruhr Valley during World War II, using the‘Bouncing Bombs’ developed by Sir Barnes Wallace. I have not seen 'Night Of The Hunter’, and will soon check this one out.
    On the TV Shows, ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ and its follow on ‘The Alfred Hitchcock Hour’ are both at the top of my lists. Have a great evening.

      I like both movies in "Le Cercle Rouge" and "Rififi" and both had almost silent heist sequences. I do have the Criterion release of "Diabolique" but sadly have not watched it yet. I like your other choices and "The Ladykillers" was a really tough one to leave off. I also really like Nocholas Ray as a director and he did a couple of really good noirs. I have seen Friedkin's "The Sorcerer" but have not seen "The Wages Of Fear" yet. "Night of the Hunter" has one of Robert Mitchum's best performances. I'm glad you are a fan of the Alfred Hitchcock television series as well. Thanks for listing some of your choices and watching the series.
