    As a Japanese resident living about 30 minutes by car from Magome-juku, I found your video very enjoyable. (I've also watched your video on Nakasendo.) In fact, I visit there several times a month, and I notice that many tourists from Western countries enjoy hiking the trail. On the other hand, many tourists from Asia take photos at the observation deck and then leave. Haha. Either way, I meet a lot of foreign tourists. I've spoken with dozens of Western tourists at Magome-juku, and Australians seem to be the most common. I also upload short videos as mementos on my channel.

      Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! 😊 Yes the Nakasendo is truly an amazing place - we noticed the same thing you mentioned. Perhaps 90% of the people on the trail were foreign tourists, and it's great to see so many people getting out and enjoying the nature! We'll have to check out your short videos!

    I hiked up Mt. Jinba in 2003 in winter... in the snow! It was quite an experience at the top during that season as the view was very bright white and snowy. It was kinda fun sliding down on my butt on the way down though.

    Many tourists climb Mt. Fuji, but we don't recommend it. Mt. Fuji is an isolated peak with no mountains to block the wind, resulting in constant strong winds and a desolate landscape with no flowers. Japanese ppl climb Mount Fuji as a pilgrimage to pray closest to the SUN GOD.

    It makes me happy to think that there are foreigners who love Japan like you do. Recently, a foreigner called Thomas Lockly did something very serious and quickly became a famous foreigner in Japan, and Japanese people reacted to his many comments about Japan and wrote two songs called Yasuke isn't to blame and The sin of Thomas Lockly. So when I see someone like you who loves Japan, I feel relieved from the bottom of my heart. I feel relieved and moved from the bottom of my heart when I see someone like you who loves Japan.

      I'm not sure how much of an effort/cost it will be to get the motorhome over here and whether it's better than hiring a van over here for a short time. There's a lovely couple on RUclips called "Tread The Globe" who did this recently, so I think their videos might have some good information about the process. • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee 4 дня назад

      Hi there! So Aimee is a videographer at a tourism media company, and Roy is a web developer working for a Japanese eSports/video game company. Some of the most common remote work positions we've seen here in Japan is IT/Software developing and working for recruitment agencies (as a recruiter). However, a comment on that is often entry level positions don't come with remote work (broadly speaking), so getting a year or two of experience under your belt in Australia first and then using the experience as leverage for getting remote work *might* be an easier transition.

    So jealous of the variety and price of pre packaged food in Japan one sushi roll is between $4.00 and $4.30 AUD..(say 440 yen) in Coffs Harbour. You often see shows about markets in the larger cities but if you could find some local ones that would be cool.

    Hi guys I trust you’re both well? Fantastic video to start the weekend with. I must say I did notice the flying pan you were using lol 😂 when we moved into our home we also were without a few things for a while, just added them as we went, so that was a fun reminder for me 😊 our microwave stopped working about a year ago and we didn’t replace it until very recently, in all honesty we didn’t miss it, I’ve also found doing like you did by boiling in the bag that the food tasted better. The one thing that we were bought for Christmas a couple of years ago was an air fryer, at first I admittedly was a little sceptical but I pretty much cook everything it now, again the food tastes so much better and also generally healthier especially when it comes to meat. I know what you mean about the a different pace of life and the way people interact with each other. I’ve also been fortunate to have lived in different areas of England and while no one has ever been outwardly rude or anything like that but I do tend to find people have more time/friendliness in my village or surrounding villages/small towns. With regards to getting around, I walk everywhere locally or cycle, it’s made a huge difference to my physical and especially mental health. If I’m going further afield to maybe Chesterfield which is our local big town (about 7-8 miles away) I’ll catch the bus as there is a set fee for any single journey of £2 (400 yen), weighing up costs of a car or taxi it’s very cost efficient. We tend not to use the car unless we need to go out for the day/bigger distances. Food prices have also increased significantly here in England/UK but I fortunate enough that we have two supermarkets in our village and Aldi is one of them, they’re prices are much better and the quality is just as good (in some cases better), though I’m not bothered about brand named foods (with exception of Heinz Baked Beans lol 😂) so again that tends to make things easier on the finances. Free sweets and cakes?!? 🥳 that’s lovely to hear and see that people think more about others moreover than themselves. There looks to be a good sense of community where you’re now living, also something I’ve found and also feel connected to where I live. Well now I’ve finished writing what probably seems like a book 🤭 thank you for sharing this excellent video about your local area, I’d love to see more of the local walking areas and trails as and when you visit them. Best of wishes to the two of you and have a great weekend 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

      Hello! As always we're doing super well & hoping the same for yourself! Totally agree with how manageable life is without a microwave. I'm actually finding using the rice cooker on "steam" mode works well for heating up things that are better moist. Biiiig +1 for the air frier, it's literally gotten us through the last 4 years in the sharehouse, because going down from the 5th floor to the 1st floor just to toast some bread was pretty bothersome, but as you mention it's such a wonderfully versatile piece of cooking equipment, and just perfectly cooks certain foods! Cycling around sounds like such a better way of living. It sounds like another one of the ways you can enjoy the day a little bit better. I hope there aren't too many hills in the area!! Ahh so the price increases are hitting the UK too, huh? Although wow, I haven't thought about Aldi since living in Australia, but I'm glad to hear it's still delivering the goodies at a better price! We'll keep you and everyone posted on how our life out here continues to unfold, and we've already got a few videos in the pipeline of us checking out the local area :D Take it easy, and hope you also have a lovely weekend!

      Hi guys I’m doing well thank you and thank you for the lovely reply. Great to hear your air fryer has come in handy so much and also that the rice cooker is really useful for cooking other foods too. Yeah cycling does make a lot of journeys more interesting and helps with the fitness, both physically and mentally too. We do have quite a few big hills in my local area so makes for an interesting ride sometimes lol 😂 Looking forward to seeing what you have planned to release in the near future. Oh my god! Let's gooooooooooooo! You guys are going to have an absolute blast!! I'm so excited for you! Hmm, we don't have a video about what gear to bring. I would say most of the campervan rental places offer the service to hire all the vanning essentials, like cooking equipment, sleeping gear (pillows/blankets etc), which I'd definitely recommend taking, because that means you really can just get away with only packing your standard travel essentials and not have to worry about such specific & bulky gear. Also - oh man, that video from years ago was one of our first videos. Thank you for coming back after going through that 😅

    I just returned from a trip there and stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan, which was an extraordinary experience. It is a small place, about 12 rooms with private and public (for guests) onsens. Service and details were at a very high level, and we ordered vegan meals, which were outstanding. If you want vegan, you have to book those in advance. I think this is the best ryokan in Shima.

      Thank you for sharing you experience! Took a quick look at the photos online of Kashiwaya Ryokan and it looks beautiful 😍 So nice they cater to vegans as well.

    Hey guys, how difficult was that climb down at 8:00? The whole rest of the hike looked pretty doable but that part seemed rough. How much upper body strength is needed? Thanks!

      @RoyandAimee 7 дней назад

      Hi there! That's a great question. I (Aimee) found it fairly rough but I think most of that had to do with fear. If you create more of an L-shape with your body like Roy was doing and use your legs to stabilise yourself, then it's not too bad.

    Okutama is also Tokyo. To begin with, the western half of Tokyo is entirely covered in forests and mountains, so it's not even on maps. Even foreigners and Japanese people who don't know much about Tokyo will be surprised to learn this fact. Be careful of bears.

    Hello again fellow Aussies. Once again another great video, always love your content and style. We have booked a Japan Campers van for October and November and are really looking foward to our trip. We had planned to do 3 hikes that were in in your list (as well as a lot of others ) and were pleased to see they ended being in your top 3 rankings 😊 WRT to our upcoming trip. I do have a question. We want to heabily utilise cheap Onsens for bathing. Is there an android app that is pretty comprehensive of where and how much they are, or even a public google map with onsens as POIs? Thanks

      Hello again Angela & Glenn! 🤗 Oooooh I'm so excited for you guys. Oct/Nov is just around the corner, you're going to have an absolute blast (and hopefully the Autumn leaves can put on a show!) I'm super interested to know which hikes that you've got planned that weren't on this list, please do share! So regards to Onsens, over the years we've tried different apps on the App Store/Play Store, however from our experience, nothing does better than good old Google Maps. The dedicated "Onsen" apps often have their information slowly get out of date. We've found Google Maps lists more facilities, with more up to date information, and there's usually plenty of Japanese commenters posting good tid-bits of information. You can make use of the auto comment-translation feature and find out things like price, parking facilities, busy times etc. If you're looking for cheap, I recommend using the search terms "Public bath", "Super public bath", or in Japanese "銭湯", "スーパー銭湯". Sento are great for us campervanners because it's cheaper than Onsen, maybe up to about half, which over a long trip really adds up - they're just slightly less bougee. However sometimes the town you're in might only have dedicated onsens and/or daytrip onsen/spa within hotels, so a lot of the time the area you're in might end up deciding where you can go. By that mark, I'd search the town I'm in for "Sento" first, and if there's nothing, change the search to "Onsen" and go for the nicest looking one at the best price point. ~750yen for a visit is looking pretty good, anything over ~1000yen and you're in for a more "boogee" experience. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, we're happy to answer & our DM's are open on Instagram too :)

    These hiking trails are the parts of Japan outdoors that we do not see often, especially for tourists. It’s beautiful and not over crowded. This is definitely a change in pace from the normal Japan site seeing and shopping. Thank you for bringing this to us.

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee 15 дней назад

      Thank you for such a kind comment! A lot of the hikes will only be accessible to experienced winter climbers during the colder months due to snow. So the best time is around June to October. In summer you'll have lovely vibrant green views and then nice fall foilage from around the start of October.

      Hello! Do you mean the letters on the ranking list? Honestly I don't know if they have a meaning 😅 Except for maybe 's' meaning 'superior'. Otherwise, it's just a scale people often use on RUclips etc. to rank things 😊

    I mean no disrespect and appreciate your effort. This is just a point I hope you take seriously. The purpose of the video... IS the scenery the country side. And I feel you had a HUGE missed opportunity to just record the sunrise with the clouds and sun peaking through and all the birds around. Not talking heads no voice on top of it or with it, no music over it. Nature is not copyrighted, you don't need to fill every space. And though it is your channel that moment was overtaken and terrupted by the focus being you, talking with it as the background only, and the inserted music. It would have been a magnificent scene and sound that the viewers could have immersed in because we are not there. That scenery alone nature alone can and is powerful enough to be content all on its own it is a super ally for your content. Im sure you will have many chances next time 🙏🏻
