The Japanese Countryside in Autumn is Pure Magic
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
Autumn colors hit their peak in our neck of the woods in the Japanese countryside - so we decided to spend a brilliant day outdoors soaking up all the sights. Two of which were the beautiful Misogi Shrine and Otaki Shrine, which were surrounded by gorgeous red and yellow maple leaves. We appreciated an unreal view of Aimee's 2nd greatest love in life, Mt Fuji, and then topped it all off with a ...

Autumn in Japan's Scenic North - Hot Springs, Fall Colors & Hiking

Northern Japan (Tohoku) is a treasure trove of hidden gems so as the fall/autumn season rolled around, we rushed up north to meet the seasonal change and admire the beautiful outdoor spots Akita prefecture has to offer. We hiked the easily accessible Akita-Komagatake for volcanic autumn views, as well as Dakigaeri Gorge for some GORGE-ous views (excuse the pun), ate delicious local food, remini...
Magical 3hr Hike in Japan's Northern Alps - Mt. Norikura Day Hike
Просмотров 2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Norikura is undoubtedly the BEST way to surpass the clouds, and hike up into the 3000m altitude threshold within Japan. The reason for it's popularity is because of the bus system that takes you straight to the top of the mountain range, costing 4000yen per person for a round trip. Once at the top, you can do a beginner-friendly 3hr return hike to the peak, and take in some incredible views spa...
Hiking Japan's Forgotten Pilgrimage Trail
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
Within a day trip of Tokyo lies Chichibu. Rich with scenic views and history, it has a number of temples - which together with those on the Saigoku and Bando pilgrimage routes - form one long trail across Japan. It was said that back in the pilgrimage peak of the early 1800s, somewhere between 20,000 - 30,000 pilgrims were recorded passing along the Chichibu trail in one day. Now an almost-forg...

UNREAL Hiking in Japan's TOP Mountains - The Northern Alps, Mt. Chogatake & Mt. Jonen
I totally enjoyed this upload! Glad that you chose Gujo-Hachiman for your very fav spot. I am a Japanese expat living in eastern Canada. I grew up in Aichi, not far from Gifu. When I was 3 or 4 years old, I for the first time went to Gujo-Hachiman with my Dad and his colleagues. Now that my Dad is gone, this memory of Gujo-Hachiman is very special. As a matter of fact, I am re-discovering Japan through you channel. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing such a lovely memory of visiting Gujo with your Dad and his colleagues. These memories and travels are so precious, and we're absolutely thrilled that we can provide an outlet for you to enjoy Japan even when you're over there in (the beautiful) Canada! 🤗
I watched your other video when you give letter grades to your hikes 😂 and that led me here because I will be in Nagano in 3 weeks (Feb) and maybe I could hike here. Is it alright to be here on a winter day? Thank you very much.
Hi there! Thanks for watching our hiking tier list video and then coming and checking out this video! Unfortunately, this hike over in Hakuba is completely buried in snow right now. In fact, during the winter season this hiking place becomes a ski resort, that's how much snow there is 😅 For Nagano in February a lot of hikes turn into snow shoeing trails.
@ ooh okay, i’ll just go back in early June then. Thanks very much🥰
Hey, this looks amazing! Do you know if they have any similar outdoor private onsens to book with lovely views near takayama, kanazawa or kyoto? Thanks, i love your videos
It really was such an amazing experience. Ahhh for us going to private onsens is a rare occasion, so unfortunately we haven't been to any in those specific areas. But there's sure to be quite a number of them, because those are popular spots!
Gujo Hachiman sounds amazing! Is it worth going in June if they do not have the festivals? After a quick internet search, it seems like the festivals start in July.
Oooh, that's a tough one! The town definitely has an amazing charm even during non-festival time, and with the castle, cafe's, beautiful water ways etc. it's still something that will make you feel like you're in a beautiful, quiet Japanese countryside town. If you were to go not during festival season, to fill in on the missing cultural side, you could do some of the workshops in the area (food replica making, traditional indigo dyeing etc.). Ultimately, if your goal is to soak in the vibes of a quaint Japanese village, and it works in nicely with your itinerary, it would make a fantastic addition. But, without the festival, it's perhaps not worth making a big deviation in your plans if you already have other spots in mind.
Great recommendatins, thank you :)
You're absolutely welcome! 🤗
First time seeing your channel and I have to say thank you! I've gone through so many RUclips vids claiming to show hidden gems and they just show the typical tourist hotspots. So it's really nice to see actual hidden gem :)
Yay! I'm so glad you said that! We tried really, really hard to do the opposite of what you mentioned, thank you so much for noticing! 😁 🤗
Wow, this is truly a wonderful introduction for the next level enjoyment of Japan for more culturally inclined foreign tourists. The spots you have chosen are real gem and the way you tell people about them is also quite charming, I love it. Thanks for your presentation!
☺️☺️☺️ That's so lovely of you to say, thank you so much! We really love the side of Japan we see and really want others to see & experience the same!
I found your channel this morning accidentally and I watched a couple of your videos. All the videos are good quality and beautiful and I really enjoyed them. After I watched the first video, I decided to subscribe to your channel. I think yours is one of the top channels and I feel like I have found hidden video gems.
🥹🥹🥹 Thank you so much! That's so lovely to hear, and it means so much to us! We'll do our best to keep pumping out the best videos we can! We're editing one now as we speak :D
To add to your Yamagata info, Yudono-san (Re-birth and the final of the Dewa Sanzan) is really really special. You're not allowed to share pictures or what you experience once you perform your purification ritual (and I am going to respect that) but it is definitely a place to visit, though it has no public transit. If you travel in mid-June to mid July, the hydrangea garden at Deshiomonjudo is lovely. I did find Tendo onsen disappointing, though it could be where we stayed. We really did like a few of the onsen in the Hanamaki group as well, and if you're up for a further away place visit, Osorezan, is a great option.
Wow that's super great information, thanks for sharing with everyone! It sounds like you took part in the purification ceremony? We can only imagine what that would be like! How special! I'm sure that's going to bump up Yamagata to make the list for someones trip!
@@RoyandAimee Yes, I didn't hike from Gassan to Yudono-san, I'm not much of a hiker and I was traveling with my teen, but we went to Yudono-san and I did the purification ritual and got to visit the shrine.

So glad that I'll never run out of things to see in Japan , this video makes me realise I need to plan better trips 😅
You're too right! The wonderful places to go here feels endless! Hope you've found some good ones from this video 🤗
You guys just made my bucket list longer
Hehe! Sounds like a good thing to us! 😉
really enjoyed this clip , thanks alot... i subscribed.... excellent camera work.
Thank you so much for the praise! We're super happy to have you as a subscriber! 🤗

Yes it indeed was haha! There were actually multiple along the trail after that one - some that still had their ringer-dingers attached too :D
Some.good places to add to the list for real
Yay! We’re glad you think so - We hope you can make it to some of these places and enjoy the beautiful for yourself :)
Hey guys ! Thank you so much for his video and for the channel ! I just found it out and I am planning to binge watch all your content today (I woke up with a cold !) ! Have a lovely day, cheers from Thailand !
Hey there! Thank you for watching and your lovely comment. 🤗 Oh no! So sorry to hear about your cold, Roy's also just recovering from one too 😅 Keep yourself well and warm, and I hope our videos can provide you with some entertainment to get you through it! Rest up~
I guess I will add Gujo to my list for my trip to Japan this year after seeing this video!
Summertime Gujo is definitely the best! But if you’re going any other time all the other places in the video are also top places to check out ✌🏻
I will be in Izu soon :-)
Yay! We hope you have an awesome time in Izu and you get some good weather and can see Fuji clearly! 🗻
Thanks. ❤️👍
The most beautiful Japan channel! I am addicted to your videos, so much beauty and so well delivered and edited! You deserve a LOT more views! What you show in your videos IS Japan I want to see. Looking forward seeing a video on Kii peninsula and Wakayama prefecture.
Waaa! That's so lovely of you to say! 🥹 This kind of comment means the world to us! We'll keep doing our best to show the real Japan - hopefully with some trips to Kii peninsula and Wakayama too! 🤗
I just hope you guys will get recognition for what you do and nobody else is doing, but you are doing what you love and this is the most important!
We’ve been to 8 out of 10 of these! All so beautiful. Hidden gem? Maybe shinhotaka Ropeway in winter. Only double decker Ropeway in Japan and the views on the way up are STUNNING! Also incredible ryokans in the area (Yumoto Choza for many, many private onsens yet rustic feel-highly recommend)
Oooh, what's the two you haven't been to yet? Oh nice, Shinhotaka! Great recommendation! We tried to go to it in this video: ruclips.net/video/esg4W9TWWIQ/видео.html but.... it didn't go according to plan 😭 I'm glad you guys got an amazing experience though, we'll have to try again this winter :D Thanks for sharing, I hope everyone else see's this and gives Shinhotaka a visit too!
Two places that surprised me with how wonderful they are are Hagi in Yamaguchi and Hiaraizumi in Iwate. Both small towns are packed with historical sites to visit, the landscapes are beautiful and you will not go hungry or thirsty with amazing local cuisine and sake. Both have hot spring as well although there are better hot spring resort areas if that is what you are focused on. The hot springs close to Hiraizumi in the hills of Hanamaki are wonderful as are the hot springs in Noboribetsu and nearby Toya Lake in Hokkaido. For those bottled up in Tokyo take a short flight over to the small island of Hachijojima in any season for fresh air, plenty of nature options, seafood and onsens. It boggle my mind how few people visit little Hachijo Island.
Thank you for coming in again with such vast knowledge and great advice/recommendations for everyone here~! There's a couple here that we have yet to tick off, from your comment Hachijojima especially has piqued our interest, one of our goals in 2025 is to visit more of the off-shore islands of Japan! And the way you wrote about each place is so convincing - I feel like we need to hop in the van/plane and go there straight away! 🤩
@@RoyandAimee The flight to Hachijo from Haneda is little more than 30 minutes and it transports you into a totally different world. You would love to hike and bicycle around the sleepy island. It is on sufers' maps as well. Too bad you guys now live outside of Tokyo making this trip less convenient. 笑
I went to Gujo-Hachiman for the first time in 2018 and it was so wonderful because there were no foreign tourists. Last summer was my second time there and there were already some foreign tourists. Without the tourists, Gujo was simply beautiful and one of the most beautiful places in Japan right after Yakushima, Ishigaki/Iriomote and Shimanami Kaido. 20:23 I knew that and brought my swimming gear with me. The water temperature was just right for summer.
We're so glad you agree with the beauty of Gujo ☺️☺️ And thanks for dropping so many other amazing spots from your travels - I'm sure will help many people choose some great spots to go to other than the main areas. Ahh, so jealous you had your swimmers! You're one step ahead of us! Hope to see you down at the jumping rocks one summer! 💦
Gujo hachiman is now on my bucket list :)
Yay! Glad to hear it! We have 100% confidence you'll have an amazing time there - it'd be hard not to 😁
If you have a hidden gem, drop it down in the comments below! So we can all share and give some love to places off the main tourist route 😍
In what month did you visit ... looks like March possibly?
Hey there! So close!! This was filmed on April 10th - and if you're interested in how it looks during other times of the year, we went back there recently and filmed it a little during summertime (July 7th) in this video: ruclips.net/video/VI08EgxasiA/видео.html
@ Great - I'll be there in late April!
Is there a fee to get into Miyashita Park's bouldering? What are their operating hours?
Hi there! It's been a while since we've been here, but looking at their website their operating hours are from 9am to 10pm and it costs ~500yen for 2 hours (children are about half price) Days aren't written anywhere, so I assume it's 7 days a week, but they do mention they're subject to close during bad weather. The website is here for your reference: www.seibu-la.co.jp/park/miyashita-park/facility/sports/ Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for sharing wonderful landscape . I have been staying in Australia for two months but correctly I feel like home sick.so this contents make me nostalgic and it’s great for learning English. Your editing style is very good. I look forward to watching next time!!
Oh my gosh, thank you for such a cute comment! I hope you're having a wonderful time in Australia! Feeling homesick is totally normal, and it happens to us over here too. 🤗 I hope our videos can help with understanding the difficult Australian accent! 海外生活頑張ってね!応援していますよ〜!
@ I also love mountain climbing, hiking, and trekking! Are there any good mountains in Australia you’d recommend? I went to Glasshouse Mountain last week, and it was amazing!
Ohhh, unfortunately we don't have very good recommendations in Australia. We only really got into hiking/trekking once we moved to Japan, so our knowledge of good tracks/mountains in Australia is pretty limited 😅 But glad to hear you enjoyed Glasshouse Mountains! It's super famous, but we've never been there before. Oh! It might be an obvious one, but Blue Mountains has many, many trekking courses and is quite famous. Also Roy went to "The Bungle Bungles" in Pernululu national park a long time ago with his family, and he says some of the trekking there was quite memorable. I hope that helps a little!
@ thank you for sharing good place which is wonderful ,intested and vast atmosphere If I had an opportunity to go to Western Australia I would love to visit there!Thank you!

Hi! What are the names of the shoes you two are wearing?
Hi there! We're wearing some Salomon hiking shoes. The exact model probably outdated because we've been using them on all of our hikes since 2014! Roy's shoes have just fallen apart, but Aimees are still going strong. We've been very happy with them and wouldn't think twice about getting them again!
Good evening/morning guys I hope you’re both well? Life has been rather busy the last few weeks but all is well and I’ve also got a couple of your always brilliant videos to catch up on. Just wanted to wish you, your families and friends a very peaceful and merry Christmas. Thank you for all the wonderful videos you’ve shared with everyone throughout the year and for taking time out of your busy lives to chat. 🏴🇦🇺🇯🇵😊🎄
Good morning! Glad to hear from you over this festive season! It sure is a busy time isn't it? We've barely had a moment to look at the channel! Thanks for checking in and dropping a comment - Merry Christmas and happy new years to your and folks too! 🎄 Looking forward to a groovy 2025 full of good things for everyone! ✌️
We we're thinking of taking a tour to Magome and Tsumago. Is a tour of 10 hours worth it? Or just go by ourselves and take the train there?
Hi there! Well, I guess that depends on the tour, really. We can't say we've done one ourselves. A good tour would give you lots of insightful information about the history of certain places along the route, which could make you feel much more connected to the sights you're viewing and the story behind it, however this experience isn't guaranteed, so it's hard to say. If you're content with just the views, nature and outdoor activity I would say a tour isn't necessary :)
So much useful information. Subscribed. Thank you, and keep up the good work 😊
Yay! Glad to hear the video was helpful for you! Hope you're able to have a wonderful campervan trip in Japan!
Is Roy still a summer guy even in Japanese summers? Cuz I'm normally a summer guy in Canada, but more of a fall guy in Japan, summers here are brutal for me 😂
Yeeeep, even in Japanese summers he's a summer boy 100% 😅 Personally I think he might have a screw loose 😂
How are tattoos for this place?
At this place there's public baths and private baths - if you're using the private baths, tattoos should be no problem!
Well, I've allways been an autumn girl, but if I wasn't - your video would have certainly convinced me! :D All the clips were so beautiful, the trees, the light, Fuji-san amidst the warm coloured landscape! Ugh, I love it!
Yaaay! We're so glad to hear that the video is spreading the good autumn vibes, and that Aimee has a fellow Autumn lover! Thank you for watching, commenting and the high praise 🙌
Can you make a ranking of the high mountains that must be climbed? i like the forest with big trees and full of moss…
Hi there! We have two videos on our channel already that might be what you're looking for! ruclips.net/video/aPvRcEuK3AA/видео.html This one for a hike amongst big trees and beautiful moss landscapes. ruclips.net/video/pGoXdBCPNps/видео.html And this one for 10 of our favorite day hikes in Japan. The opening Fuji drone shots are litetal perfection!
Aimee was practically squealing as she was flying the drone - she knew she'd gotten some good shots! Thanks for making her day with this comment! 🤗
@RoyandAimee No problem 😊
I so much appreciate autumn in Japan. I work in a very tall building in central Tokyo and when autumn begins we can see ranges of mountains at the horizon and as the sunset is around 16:30, I get to watch from my office. And the cherry on top is that my building is very close to the imperial palace so I have under my window hundreds of beautiful autumns colored trees! I love autumn! I remember autumn in France and it was the worst 😅 So cold, day becoming very short very quickly, lots and lots of rain, slipping on the not even pretty autumn leaves and the beginning of a new school year after the long summer holidays. It was depressing
Oooh - I can feel the autumn love with this comment! 🍂❤️ I hope you get that amazing sunset backlit view of Fuji on the horizon from your office too! That's truly a spectacle! Super glad to hear you've found the good vibes in Tokyo, certainly sounds nicer than what you were describing about dreary autumn in France. By the way Roy also wants you to know he just finished watching Nana for the first time and loves seeing your comments + profile picture come through because of it 😂
Roy!!!! hisashiburiiiiiiii I love you guys and so happy to see you both thriving. Much love from back in America
Yo, yo! Hisashiburiii~! Thanks for continuing to support, lovely to see a comment from you! We're definitely living our best life out here! Hope all's well in The States and if you're ever hankering for some Japan-life vibes you know where to look 😉
What a nice upload!, and it made me miss Japan in fall. By the way, my favorite season is winter regardless of where I am. So true that there are so many delectable things to eat in fall in Japan. I hope you two are enjoying the fall (or are you already back in Australia for Christmas as you said?). Cheers.🍂 🎄
Hold up! We have a very rare winter lover! I don't think you're allowed to drop that piece of information and not elaborate on why! You've also hit the nail on the head, we're temporarily back in Aus at the moment enjoying the lead up to Christmas with the family. Hope you're also having a happy holiday season 🤗
@@RoyandAimee Reasons why I love winter, especially in Japan. Reason 1: it is cold!l, meaning that I won't have to suffer from high temps and humidity. Or mosquitoes. Reason 2: Winter food such as Hoto noodle (you can eat it all year round, though). 3. Kotatsu. Napping in a kotatsu and eating mikans while you are in it. Reason 4: I just love the vibes in winter in Japan, especially in late December and the first 3 days in January. Hope you are having a great time back in Australia. Where are you? From Victoria or NSW? Cheers.
Ooooh that no mozzie point is such an underrated point I didn't even think of! But hell, certainly can't disagree with any of those lovely aspects you mention about winter! Oh, and we're from NSW :)
Although I love the greenest green of the rice paddies in summer, my favourite season is autumn. The varying yellows, oranges, browns and reds are just sublime. Thank you for sharing!
They sure are! So glad to see all the autumn love in the comments here! (And Roy's a little happy that there's dabbles of summer support!) Thank you for watching and commenting! 🤗
Korea and China too
We've never seen a Korean/Chinese autumn 🥹 We'll have to take your word that they're equally as magical!
Why do you need to mention Korea and China? It’s not competition. They live in Japan that’s why they filmed the autumn colours in Japan.
Thinking of going back to Japan for 10 days in May. Do you have any favorite outdoor activities/hikes or recs for outdoor adventures in May? Thanks!
Hey there! There's plenty of awesome things to do in May - it's our 2nd best recommended time to visit Japan. In terms of hikes anything 2000m and under is good to do around that time (any taller and you need to be a snow hiking specialist). We've got a recommended list of hikes here: ruclips.net/video/pGoXdBCPNps/видео.html But there's also plenty of other hikes all over the country that can be done depending on where you're going. Moving on from hiking we also certainly recommend Canyons Japan for both rafting and canyoning (it's insanely fun and great for adventure couples - video below) ruclips.net/video/mrmxZYdH7bw/видео.html As a general, because of the snow melt, rivers are at their high, so river cruises are at their peak season, more traditional ones like line-kudari in Chichibu or log rafting in Kitayama gorge is a great way to take in the nature whilst doing something more than just walking. ruclips.net/video/rvZL7h8rXA4/видео.html There's also some other things that we don't have videos on, but from what we've seen and heard about other adventure/nature experience there's potentially mountain biking experiences in Hakuba, and some outdoor climbing you can book in with tour guides/instructors. Also judging by the looks of your channel, you're probably all over this, but Van-Life in a hire-van is also perfect at that time ;) I hope this helps!
Roy Sounds like a cow (moooo) eating his ice cream.
😂😂😂
Autumn is the best time to visit Japan to see the beautiful autumn leaves , thanks for sharing your video ,greetings from Kanagawa .
We agree! Autumn is so spectacular in Japan, we're so glad you enjoyed the video! 👋
Autumn ! Japan just magic ,thanks. My daughter and I are Hitting Osaka in January working our way up to hiking the Nakasendo trail (same one you did) to various castle places and see snow monkeys, up to Kasatsu Onsen then Mt Fuji eventually ending up in the snow at Hokkaido to meet up with my other snowbunny daughter wrestling the bears. Will we find our way on the trail in the snow or will we need a rescue personal locator beacon if we turn left instead of right.
That sounds like an absolutely epic trip! I'm so excited for you to experience the Nakasendo, and we're totttttally jealous of you going to Hokkaido in winter, because we've only been in summer! Even if you get lost, I'm sure you'll enjoy the journey!
Nice filming, beautiful autumn in Japan ❤
Thank you so much! We'll keep posting all 4 beautiful seasons here!
