I'm Italian and my name is Eugenio, the Italian equivalent of Eugene (which as a name has Greek origins). It's not a very popular name nowadays, it's considered to be rather outfashioned and I've never met another Eugenio except for my maternal grandpa, who was adopted and his name was the only thing his birth parents left to him before leaving him at the clinic. Remember: it's early '30s fascist Italy what we are talking about, and only wealthy ladies could access to clinics to give birth, so this makes my grandpa's origins even more mysterious (maybe he was a love child or his true parents couldn't simply keep him despite their presumed wealth and no one knows why).
