One of the greatest live albums and a great introduction to Tull for any newbies. Tull were so unique and the best entertainers ever. This was the best line up for me. Just Top Class, must get this box set. Barriemore is amazing on drums., Conundrum musical arrangements shows how good Martin, Barrie, John. and John make great music without Ian.

Can you please give me a hint about the pic with Ian on electric? I must be blind....

I didn't like the MSG tracks on the 20 years video and I didn't like the previous MSG release. I always assumed it's just that I don't like the performance. But I LOVE the MSG show on the Bursting out box. SW did a really great job.

My first live concert was Tull in ‘79 on Stormwatch @ MSG. A great show. ( UK opener) Bursting out was one of my first buys back then. Streaming this new version and it is a mindblower. I agree “Thick” is a big jam on here that I cannot get enough of. My next buy. Excellent discussion.

Great review, thanks! Took me awhile to embrace this album, given its "happier", more idealistic and optimistic tone, with that tinge of nostalgia and romance in a very different era. Few if any of the nefarious cast of grifters, losers, criminals and very flawed souls that fill the stories of Steely Dan. Fagen is absolutely masterful at portraying the culture of that period, and there is a sense that Fagen is narrating much of this through the lens of his own pre-teen youth. I do hear more darkness than many listeners, particularly IGY and New Frontier. I always believed that Fagen's portrayal of the future was an ominous warning of uniformity and oppression, as Fagen describes communism "perfected". Just my own personal take.

I saw Terror At The Opera in theaters 5 times! I have the Venezuelan VHS, the Anchor Bay VHS, the Anchor Bay DVD and the Blu-ray. I pre-ordered that 4K but still hasn't arrived. I think I've all Argento's films on one format or another. Good review and cool video bro!👉🙂👈

Hope it is good, but Akerfeldt has become insufferable to listen to in interviews. He has been slowly climbing up his own arse for the past few years. Yes, he's a legend and massively influenced modern metal, but he can't help but belittle and mock other bands and fans of metal in all the recent interviews I've seen.

I hope Anderson doesn't ruin this with spoken word like he does to his last few albums. "It features Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on flute and adding narration to multiple tracks."

Love the new single! Can't wait to see how it fits in with the entire album. I have followed the band since around Ghost Reveries, so I've evolved away from the growl but it's nice to have it back!

I was at the show for The Garden of the Titans, Red Rocks. Amazing show and Gojira really set the stage for a great night!

I found Opeth late, past 2011. So… the melodic singing albums. My faves are Sorceress and In Cauda. I think they are just so amazing and will probably be my favorites forever. I do not care for the growl vocals at all, and I realize I’m in the minority. Oh well. Even with just owning those two albums, I bought tickets to see them in the fall (back in May) so I’ll try to be more open-minded.

saw Opera for the first time last night... Wow... some of the most gleefully ecstatic camera work I've ever witnessed. Surpasses Tenebrae as my 2nd favourite Argento (Sus 1st, of course)

Love it, a combination of old and new. Definitely picking up the album when it comes out and looking out for your dates around my way.

Any Opeth is good Opeth. Imho, the cookie monster voice grows tiresome after a bit. I think it seriously limits his range, and honestly, I can't understand half of what he's singing. His voice is so gorgeous and clear comparatively. Either way, I look forward to the new music! Btw, feel free to review their back catalog, I'll tune in for sure. Rock on!

Passion Play broke the mainstream critics brains. Couldn’t crap on Ian and the Lads for their virtuosity, so they took the easy way out and spewed about the over the top allegorical lyrics that didn’t conform with the Cement headed 3 Chord tricks, that soothed their pablum filled gullets.

It's got Phil on the drums so yeah. Also all the songs in there sound better than their studio versions.

Body Double by Brian De Palma is another voyeuristic film.

I haven't seen Opera, but I'm a big fan of Goblin. Recently saw Profondo Rosso and Suspiria while Simonetti's band was playing the soundtrack live. We were treated with a Goblin set after the movie. Very cool experience :-)

Nice setup Ian. I have eight cats - and seven of them are often around in various spaces to listen to my 5.1 and ATMOS collection. I have some years on you - so my speakers and amp have been upgraded more than a dozen times since I got my first surround system in 1975. I actually have 6 tower speakers, 2 large subwoofers, a fairly large center speaker - and have my Dolby atomos speakers on very tall stands. I also have a OPPO player hooked into my system that allows me to play a collection of about 4000 4.0, 5.1, and even true 7.1 (not Atmos) music I have on flac files.

I look forward to your review of this album. Have you done a video of your Dolby Atmos listening room?

these are real weird genesis - an alternative group playing to small audiences. what comes after 1975/77 is corporate genesis :)

The drum sound is great on G Live...I love the album. I also LoVE Seconds Out, the band had so much energy at this time. The 90s live albums were from the We Can't Dance tour btw😎

I came up with a ranking before watching this. It was (in reverse order) Missing Piece Giant for a Day Civilian Interview In a Glass House Gentle Giant The Power and the Glory Octopus Three Friends Free Hand Acquiring the Taste Very difficult to rank these, but Acquiring the Taste is my firm favourite.

As you pointed out it's not as well recorded as Seconds Out but as far as live Genesis albums go it is my personal favourite of them all and one I felt should have been included in the Genesis 1970 - 1975 boxset instead of putting it in a separate boxset with a load of other live albums I am not interested in at all. I was surprised that you did not think that Nursery Cryme was not very well recorded and had a certain dislike for it. I think it's a great album and don't have any issues with the recording one bit. I also catch your drift regarding live and studio albums regarding the sound quality however there are a few decent live albums that did come out very well recorded back in the 70's and I suppose one perfect example of that would have to be Robin Trower's 1975 live album. By the way, the story that Gabriel wrote for "Get Em' Out By Friday" seemed almost like a reality a few years back where I live in which the council were doing what they call a regeneration project. They knocked down many old houses to rebuild new ones only the new ones were that small they were like doll's houses and they most likely did fit twice as many on the same building site😁.

Hey Ian!. "Genesis Live" had a Disc 2 (i.e. a live version of "Supper's Ready"), from the same Rainbow show, which was only released to radio stations. Those double vinyl editions of Genesis Live are very rare and collectable. That live recording finally got an official release as part of the "Archive" box set, so the entire album can be recreated if you have "Genesis Live" and "Archive".

When material is somewhat fresh and still developing for the players there's often an intangible quality in performances that goes away through repetition, (Miles Davis seemed keenly aware of this, and supposedly fired players for rehearsing solos). The 1st Live Genesis album seems to exemplify this phenomenon in spades. This is the first Genesis album I heard and it's pretty common for people to bias towards the one that printed in the head first. For me, Seconds Out sounds less inspired. Haven't put that one on a lot, so I could be dead wrong, but I came away thinking it was rote, slick and almost formulaic by comparison.

The first live album was perfect - but not great. The second live double was great - but not perfect. But they're both fun historical artifacts worth experiencing. Peace on earth.

Octopus was my introduction to the band.. but in 1985. My best friend & I were shopping at a used record store looking for something different in the 70's prog rock line that we were not aware of. Saw a British pressing of Octopus in a bin (with the Dean cover) & immediately bought it because we knew Roger's artwork. We both loved it and became huge fans of the band & kept buying their other albums.
