I love manga for a lot of reasons, and one of them is the fact that there are so many amazing works that are exclusive to the medium. It's nice to see a more niche artist given some attention, good video!
You're in for a ride 💥
@@perehn8910 well berserk is now my favourite manga!

Thanks onieric very cool

Hey, Nice vid! Btw, are you reading Nihei's new series "Tower Dungeon", if yes, do you plan on making a vid on it?
@@Meinardas16 ill always read anything that Nihei writes even if I prefer his old art style. I’ll make a vid on it for sure when it gets a few more chapters 👌 And thank you a lot!
I remember saying "Oh no" as soon as the professor name drop the title on his daughter. Never a good sign when stories do that so soon.
@@SoShiBias smh the prof forgot he was in a Junji Ito story
It's very appropriate that in the face of impending doom, humans will still find petty things to bitch about, or will deflect entirely. Good to see you back with more quality content!
If remina seemed too fantastic of a concept, the way humanity reacts surely brings the realism back ahah, thanks for checking this out!
Being a big cosmic horror fan, i really fell in love with this manga the first time i read it. There something so special in this one, i thinks the charaters being so impactfull yet so helpless create the very horror i crave in this genre. Them having so much knowledge and just being overhelm by the speed of the evenements is terrifing. anyways, always love to see your videos !
Yep gotta love all the things Junji Itō comes up with to mess humanity up ahah and he’s SO GOOD at it! Thank you for taking the time to watch :D
Great video again as always! This is a very cool christmas surprise, keep up the good work! I loved the analysis of Herd mentality and really didn't expect it to go that way going into the video!
Thank you very much! I still remember back in elementary school when the teacher asked us boys what our favourite colour was. (Mine was orange.) After a few classmates gave their answers in order, and they all said blue, I gave mine and I too said blue, of course I lied because I didn’t wanna seem weird. After me one guy said orange, so that really left a bad taste in my mouth. Just some Oneiric lore to express how even for the dumbest stuff there can be pressure.
Thanks for the Christmas present 😊

This is a true work of passion, showing respect to a highly underrated story piece about Love Death Guilt Forgiveness Continuing on in the face of tragedy… And Star Wars.
“…and Star Wars” ✍️🔥
On the first view of the city, I cannot help but see it as Böcklin's Isle of the Dead.
I had to google that and I’m sure that must have been the inspiration, they’re so so similar!
I'm a reviewer but i just read it to enjoy it
I did NOT go into this video thinking my emotional takeaway would be that I'd want to wake my gf up and give her a huge hug...and that maybe doing the dishes ain't all that bad.
That’s some character development right there
Bc you always do the dishes 😂
I watch a lot of Yt essays....i watch /read/listen to A LOT of art/media. I did just finish working a 11 hour double, but I haven't felt so in over my head in as long as i can remember. 😅. Since im CERTAIN that I'm ALWAYS the "smartest guy in the room", I'm going to attribute this feeling of inferiority to YOUR poor communication of concepts and I'll even come back to edit this and say something meaner if I think of anything good. I'm also going to ignore the gnawing feeling in the back of my mind that this was a BRILLIANT video that did this often poorly explored work of art some real justice...BUT that's just a feeling. Meaningless. Clearly not the truth. Merely the lizard brain itching. My intellect, my ego know the truth...You are STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! Thank you for the excellent video essay 😉 i am in awe of your talent.
Hey there, Oneiric! I remember you commenting on my Fire Punch mmv, seeing that you are a "content creator", I then proceeded to check out some of your videos (namely Fire Punch ending and the big big fire punch documentary, and frieren flower video as well as biomega one, (a few months later)) I was a bit confused because I had seen really high-quality content from this guy(you), who had been posting videos of this caliber for a long time, yet had such a low following. It, quite frankly, didn’t make sense to me. I myself was faced with a similar issue as you, but as you can easily tell, our contents highly differ! haha. During the period of 2018 to 2022 I was pretty much at a standstill, but then due to the newest season of AOT airing, my older video from 2021, got A LOT of traction (probably due to the video title, which had a lot of meaning in AOT's story at that particular season), which fueled some additional regular viewers to my channel, but ever since that short period, I haven't really had a successful video, which really feels like a kick to the b*lls, ;DD. I understand your feelings regarding this, because at the start, I too didn't care too much about high viewership counts or something like that. Eventually, I realised that an increasing viewership does help you create the mental image that you are actually improving your "skills" or just making progress in general. And not having this "luxurious symbol" of progress, well, it kinda sucks... So what is the conclusion? Create higher and higher level content and in time gather a sizeable channel? But even so, that doesn't guarantee anything and its not like anyone really owes you or me to make that a reality. But regarding you, I really hope you continue to make videos, as I do enjoy them ;)). Although, if I really had to critique anything, you should definitely begin to add timestamps to your videos, I do know that in some cases it hurts long-form content creators, but if most of your viewers quit watching the video 10-30 seconds in, atleast you might me able to retain some of them. Because, if they read an interesting timestamp they might fastforward to that exact point/remark that you are making and "latch on" onto the video better or it might help them decide if any of the future contents/chapters, that they are about to see in the video even interest them, since your kind of content requires a lot of time and attention from the viewer.
Holy shit it’s great to see you here, your edits go so hard, I love them. I’ll let you in on something: your Biomega mmv inspired me to make my own video and I remember that Fire Punch mmv, it’s my personal favourite on the manga also cuz of the music you chose. I also recently saw your Blame! edit and found it so cool, though I didn’t comment anything smh lol. But seriously I’m surprised you follow me! Anyway thanks a lot for taking the time to share your thoughts, hearing your experience makes me feel better because it helps me understand even more that this is a situation where many of us are in together and it only makes certain metrics more insignificant, otherwise deserving channels like yours would have to be bigger too. It’s not worth to stress over stupid numbers, though yes, they should at least somewhat give you an indication of improvement. This is not a fair platform anyway lol. I will also listen to your advice as well Thanks for reaching out and good luck with everything, as soon as I catch up to AoT I’ll binge your mmvs👌
@@OneiricYT Well in my case, there is also the addition of people just taking my edits and incorporating them into their own videos without mentioning me or giving a little shout-out. Its not even the small, lets say "tiktok creators" although there is multiple renditions of my edits that have hundreds of thousands of views but all of them fail to mention me. And its not like I can do anything, the copyright material belongs to the manga/music artists themselves (You could say, that I am doing the same thing as them, but I do think that my content is transformative enough and its not like I earn money for it), I myself do these personal projects for fun and to improve my skills, but still, there is the question of their conscience. Recently, I also saw some decently big russian "anituber" that literally took my biomega and blame! videos, cropped off my tags (atleast on the videos that had them) and presented them in his video (and do I need to say, that he did not mention me anywhere, lol). I don't really care for the most part, but if you are literally earning money for creating that kind of content, and acting in that manner, then you are an ass. Although, in this recent case it did make me laugh, because I did not expect to see my old biomega clips in some random russian youtuber's documentary. Anyways, sorry for the rant, but Oneiric, if you ever do make some sort of content, that I have already made clips for on my channel, feel free to use/incorporate the footage itself in your videos, might even help with viewer engagement :)). That would feel way better than seeing it in some jerk's channel.
Of course your content is transformative, there is no doubt about that. Unfortunately we are in dire need of a uniformed global discipline of copyright, otherwise companies will just keep on twisting “fair use” to their advantage and RUclips will only bend its back to them. On top of that when people steal other’s work it’s just so sad, Idk how they just take someone else’s stuff and put it into their own shamelessly, have you tried contacting this Russian guy? It sounds like he incorporated your material maliciously, maybe you can copyright claim your portion. No need to be sorry, it was a pleasure to talk about this and thank you very much, that would be my honour!!
Holy moly, I think ur videos r so good. I’m just binge watching them.
Wow thank you, I hope you have a good time!
I am sorry that I only discovered this channel today. I recently finished Fire Punch so I started looking for some videos to better understand how to interpret the ending since it left me very confused, I came across your video on the ending and I was enchanted by your way of narration and illustration, a real masterpiece. By coincidence I became aware of your channel just 7 days after you posted this video which I hope is not the last. I am sorry that your passion and work that you have put in these four years has not been repaid with what you deserved. I hope you would not abandon that and continue maybe with the hope that one day you will get what you deserve, thank you for what you create, as of now you have a new subscriber! p.s sorry if I misspelled something, I am Italian and not very good at English
Always good to see a fellow Italian here! Im happy that the fire punch videos I made back then are still appreciated, they’re so nostalgic. Though I’d always recommend the documentary I made last year over them because that is their remake. This will not be my last video, when I’ll have to go out I’ll go out with a bang! My friend, don't even for a moment think the algorithm pushes forward better or more enjoyable content and don't even for a moment take it to heart as criticism for your character or content. It's random bullshit. Viewer retention is abysmally low even on the most viewed videos on this platform, especially on video essay content, that's just how it is. I see that very often you get comments about how your videos and channel are too high quality and interesting for the amount of traction they get and it's true and that means a lot, there aren't many channels your size with such positive feedback dropping so often.
@@36fanis Honestly that’s reassuring and I treasure all the compliments I receive, I’m always surprised when people think so highly of me! Thank you for taking your time here 😄
Man, it was just like a blink of an eye coming from your "3 years" recap. I feel you. The entire landscape of making content (not just youtube) has been brutal to creatives who have high integrity with their works. No doubt due to the algorithm. They herd the views, but do not concern about niche content. People by and large have been conditioned into gravitating towards a few kinds of content, urging creators to 'adapt or be replaced', which limits artistic expressions. Numbers continue to take more and more priorities, everyone appease to the formula, everyone become samey, and even the audiences get fatigued. What's next after that stage? And who will survive long enough to see it? I can only wish the table turns itself around for the betterment of everyone. There comes a time when I've come to terms with the fact that "luck" plays a huge part in any sort of success we all aim to get. Big or small. But even so, that gap between grabbing a lucky star from below ground level is somehow still widening into unexpected territories. Sometimes, that feeling turns into fuel. While it also eats into me. And to whoever already got the star, I bet it's another hellish cycle of thinking "How am I going to keep this up?" "How do I stay relevant?" From what I notice, the struggles from those on top has been seeping out for awhile already. It's really less about you being 'boring' compares to someone who're good at making goofy faces on the thumbnail. One type of video 'sells better' than the others, but few of those could hit a deeper level of connection of one of your output. Admitted you stand on niche grounds even within anitube, but a unique voice no doubt. By the end of this video, I feel like you understand the situation yourself. But I empathize with the mindset all these factors led you into. At least the way you share your thoughts here are vigorous enough that I still see spunk in you! I would even suggest you use this cadence (but channel the negativity vibe into a positive one) in one of your future videos. If you need some sauce to kick off some coming important project of yours, holler at me. I can provide more than just my voice y'know 😏 Still glad I was able to play a small part in one of your video this year ✌
I can’t believe it’s been a year either. Let me thank you for dedicating such a message to me, I really appreciate what you had to say and I share the complaints about how flat the creative space has become. Luckily there are a few exceptions, but whoever conforms to the trends has an easier time for sure. We will collaborate many more times in the near future, I’ve got many ideas, and thanks for encouraging me, I’ll keep all you said in mind! 🤙
ill always support you man, keep doing ur thing i love your videos and cant wait to see what you have planned. Its disappointing that ur videos don't get the recognition they deserve. I think ur videos r really interesting and not boring at all, i hold them in very high regard. Honestly i think ur amazing for what youve been able to do, wishing u all the best man!
@@crwlr9787 thanks! Very happy to read that from you! 😃
We've talked about various aspects of the general anitube community, but I would never ever say that you or your content are boring. Quite the opposite, it's your personality and way of presenting that got me interested over other channels. The algorithm is extremely deceptive in this way because of what it caters to, and WHO it caters to. A lot of people will never comment (I'm usually one of them), and that isn't your fault at all. That said, the quality over quantity approach might mean that the right people will comment. Ultimately, doing the content for yourself is the most important thing to remember. Of course, being busy is completely understandable, and balancing everything can be a challenge, so just do what you feel like. I hope you'll continue for a while despite the circumstances, you're a very soulful person who makes great stuff.
@@lexaand damn I’m moved🥲 I will keep going, thank you for the help!
I don't think you're boring and I think a lot of the videos are extrenely engaging. Even the last video before this one the Angel Egg video really pushes a lot of boundries and tries and manages to do a lot of what essentially is engaging. I think the videos you make should always be content you'd watch, you need to make the videos for you not neccesarly for your audience. I hope you get the strength to pick yourself up and get the power to keep going.
@@luca_under_limit thanks for saying that, I will ✌️

Never heard of Homonculus but this video is seriously making me consider giving it a read.Very interesting stuff and as usual presentation is stellar.
Thank you! i highly recommend it. It’s surely in my top 10 manga!
I decided to check out this video essay since you commented on a video of mine and although I knew nothing about Angel's Egg at the start. I've been pleasently surprised once, twice thrice. I realized this is an amazing video essay, something truly to aspire towards. A meta-physical analysis featuring all refrences and themes that could be made from a work of art. It's amazing work and I think if it had a different title or thumbnail it would've done amazing since it has all the hallmarks of an amazing video. I would have definetely titled it different. About the fish you theorized as being Leviathan, I'd much rather go along with your ludo-narrative refrences to the Bible and say it's more like the fish Jonah was stuck in. An amazing analysis of a true Classic, good job! You deserve more attention!

Do you have myanimelist? Care to share
Hello, not sure why RUclips didn’t notify me of your comment but anyway no I don’t have a MAL
Discussions like these are some of my favorite when it comes to philosophy, particularly surrounding the idea of religion. I think my favorite visual from what was shown of the anime was the man standing on the "chessboard." I like the visual of making different moves in life, yet none of them bringing you closer to God, who's not even on the board to begin with. Granted, in my case, while I do enjoy entertaining the concept of religion, my stance is firmly grounded in realism due to my own beliefs/experiences. Nihilism is also part of that equation, and while not necessarily negative, it does have a sad beauty to it. Our solitude away from God, or the idea of God, gives us freedom to do what we want. Nihilism gives us the motivation to embrace that freedom. Though like you said, true freedom is only found in death, so we simply work with what we've got. At the same time, others want to fully believe in a God that can save them. While I may view religion as more of a coping mechanism, their stance would be completely opposite. It's Schrödinger's egg (in this case), where God can be both alive and dead at the same time. What matters is how you wish to view the world, and both views are equally valid. Great work on this video, enjoyed it a lot!
I think it is important not to let the nonsense and nothingness that are our life crush us. We have to embrace freedom and this reality, while not forgetting to be good to one another, and this is where religion comes in with its ethical principles, it’s not even necessary to believe in it. In any case, religion or Nihilism, both views are valid as you say, Socrates had already figured it out thousands of years ago (I’ll leave here this sweet speech from him, thank you for your support): ”Let us reflect in another way, and we shall see that there is great reason to hope that death is a good; for one of two things-either death is a state of nothingness and utter unconsciousness, or, as men say, there is a change and migration of the soul from this world to another. Now if you suppose that there is no consciousness, but a sleep like the sleep of him who is undisturbed even by dreams, death will be an unspeakable gain. For if a person were to select the night in which his sleep was undisturbed even by dreams, and were to compare with this the other days and nights of his life, and then were to tell us how many days and nights he had passed in the course of his life better and more pleasantly than this one, I think that any man, I will not say a private man, but even the great king will not find many such days or nights, when compared with the others. Now if death be of such a nature, I say that to die is gain; for eternity is then only a single night. But if death is the journey to another place, and there, as men say, all the dead abide, what good, O my friends and judges, can be greater than this? If indeed when the pilgrim arrives in the world below, he is delivered from the professors of justice in this world, and finds the true judges who are said to give judgment there, Minos and Rhadamanthus and Aeacus and Triptolemus, and other sons of God who were righteous in their own life, that pilgrimage will be worth making. What would not a man give if he might converse with Orpheus and Musaeus and Hesiod and Homer? Nay, if this be true, let me die again and again. I myself, too, shall have a wonderful interest in there meeting and conversing with Palamedes, and Ajax the son of Telamon, and any other ancient hero who has suffered death through an unjust judgment; and there will be no small pleasure, as I think, in comparing my own sufferings with theirs. Above all, I shall then be able to continue my search into true and false knowledge; as in this world, so also in the next; and I shall find out who is wise, and who pretends to be wise, and is not. What would not a man give, O judges, to be able to examine the leader of the great Trojan expedition; or Odysseus or Sisyphus, or numberless others, men and women too! What infinite delight would there be in conversing with them and asking them questions! In another world they do not put a man to death for asking questions: assuredly not. For besides being happier than we are, they will be immortal, if what is said is true.”
