Homunculus is such a fascinating series, thanks in part to a very interesting protagonist. Nakoshi is so terribly flawed, but that's what makes him a great character. The journey that seemingly leads to understanding only serves to bury him deeper in delusions. There is no growth, only a person unwilling to see the "truth." What a great series! This video was very well done, had no idea you were going to be talking about it, but glad you did!
A masterpiece if you ask me! The symbolism is something I can’t stress enough how much I love. The sea; “looking” wether down at your feet or up in the clouds; the shoes; then, among many other things, there is Nanako who was shown to have a lot of face makeup products in her flat. It can be a weird manga in some moments lol. I’m thinking about a certain “INSTALLATION COMPLETE” sex scene ahah. But those weird moments are the essence of the subconscious, I feel like. The chapters where Nakoshi speaks with Ito, one sitting opposite the other with the two losing their forms while the sun goes down, it felt like a psychoanalysis session. I don’t think Hideo Yamamoto is a human for writing a story this complex ahah and thanks for thinking the video was well done!
Yes, that's what all stories should be, all stories in a way exploration of the main character and the world around him a device for exploring him. such a sad thing the popular anime lack nowadays. Rather telling away the intriguing concepts in a flat, expositional way. But in a sense that is good, it separates the truly great from the ordinary.
