Summer and winter taxes on property is ridiculous on it's own but, Waite for it. The amount of tax is based on current property price in your area and not on how much you have invested into the property, or the actual value of your property.

I would vote no property tax. I have been retired for12 years, with no raise, but taxes keep going up. They will eventually drive me out of my house when state takes for not being able to pay them

A generation ago Ypsi was a mostly boring suburb of Ann Arbor without a lot going on for themselves. In recently years though a lot of the people who make up the cool cultural elements of Ann Arbor have been priced out of town and are moving to Ypsi. As just one example, see how Pride celebrations in Ypsi have grown while Braun Court in Ann Arbor is about to be torn down and replaced by a developer. Also the Downtown area, which wasn't even mentioned here, is almost as nice as Depot Town.

i have my land west of linden in farm country, but enjoy visiting downtown linden. You can even kayak into town on the Shiawassee river. plenty of shops in linden and fenton. it's a great place

I live very close to Pere Cheney and sadly you were correct you weren't pronouncing it correctly. Lol, but it's okay. I've spent so much time out there and so many things have happened. Seeing shadow figures, hearing talking, it's always at least 10° colder inside the cemetery than outside of it. There will no absolutely no wind inside the cemetery but outside of it there will be. I've seen an apparition of a little girl to many times to count. So many unexplained things. It's a must go to! But you should also make sure you have four wheel drive going out there.

The high school here is way too big, three high schools combined in one place. Some people from other areas want to live here because they think it seems to be a better area that’s more middle class and less crime, but I’m not so sure about that. And as for sense of community we’ve lived here a long time but really don’t know a lot of our neighbors. Too many people with dogs walking around at all hours day and night.

I live in Northville and best of both worlds between Detroit and Ann Arbor. Lots of green space and close to country, lakes, parks and city life.

If you live in Oakland or Macomb County, you are NOT from Detroit. Only places i would live in Michigan are downtown Detroit or Grosse Pointe area. Both Wayne County.

Alot of people in Metro Detroit think they are tougher than they are. Lots of people who live in Macomb and Oakland County think they are from “Detroit” 😂 Lots of ignorant and overweight people in Metro Detroit. Almost hickish.

How do the property taxes stack up?

Yeah and don’t forget that renters don’t actually pay any property taxes. Sure you might say that the renters are charged with them in account by the landlord. But aren’t we forgetting that the 1% doesn’t pay their fair share? I guarantee the owners of trailer parks and huge commercial apartment complexes are not paying their fair share in property taxes. So the burden is placed on actually home owners in the state. Property taxes need to be eliminated and it needs to be removed from everyone’s paycheck and then redistributed based on your city/county/township’s actual population. While considering operating cost probably are a little higher for city areas vs rural.

As a newly retired teacher, I can tell you to take school ratings with a grain of salt. It boils down to rich areas have kids whose parents care a lot about education. This translates to higher scores on standardized tests, which plays a big part when evaluating schools. These ratings always change, as well. Birmingham should not be anywhere near #2. They don’t offer a TAG (talented and gifted) program. Any really solid school district is going to offer this.

Moved to Brighton in 1979 from Detroit. Went to Lindbom Elementary, Maltby Middle School and half of high school.

For all those who complained in 2010-2011 and even 2012 prices are depressed in Metro Detroit they need to recover fast. Careful what you wish for. You just might get it. Oh boy have we ever. And has most of the United States as well. 2010-2011 prices were not depressed in Metro Detroit nor in the United States. They were reasonable after crashing form inflated levels. The real crisis was not the crash form 2008-2009 here in Michigan and most areas in the United States. The real crisis is housing affordability. Once again careful what you wish for. Was not good for all those who wished prices would recover fast back in 2010-2011. Well you got your wish then some and for years not just recently there have been cries about housing costs being way way too high. The housing market here in Michigan and across almost all the united States was so much better back in 2010-2011 and even early to mid 2012 when prices were flat for society as a whole overall. The only ones its not better for are investors who hoard multiple properties, and the ones who own 2 homes (primary and vacation) and look to sell only one and pocket the profit. I say this as a home owner owning a paid for in cash right away since March 2013. Rising prices do nothing for me and make it worse as if I ever had to move despite getting more for my home next home costs more as well and worse yet property taxes uncap and next home would be much more. Bad for all of us. 2008-2009 was the good old days for the housing market compared to today. And 2010-2011 was best of both worlds flat home prices at reasonable levels, growing economy and job losses behind us despite a still high unemployment rate.

Over spending gov. is the problem , NO ONE should ever be able to lose their property !!

Where im from jackson michigan suck. Most businesses come and stays for a year maybe 2 then gone. They don't take care of there road at all. There so many reason why Michigan sucks. Why did Michigan hold a rally for a fallen officer butler but didn't do it for any other cops who has fallen while in line of duty Michigan is a fucked up state

But who cares if you do get hurt they’re gonna have to treat you and fix you because that’s the Hippocratic oath. And who cares if you don’t pay any of these bills back they can just sit there for the rest of your life. They never get reported oryour credit never takes a hit from them. So it doesn’t really matter.
