The blue roof house in your video was my uncle's lake house, until he passed away in 2005. I spent almost every Sunday in the summer there during my youth. What a great lake to spend time on.

I lived in Whitmore Lake back in 1982 to 1985, it was quiet, the people were nice, and I really like the area. Now prices are too high for homes, the lake is being polluted by the influx of boats with oil and gas leaks. The people have changed, more entitled and inconsiderate that they used to be, but that seems to be the norm for the entire United States these days. Unfortunate how population increases also increase poor behavior and physical abuse of the land.

Born and raised in Whitmore Lake. Moved in 1978 at age 15 to Concord Michigan. Some of the best memories of my life happened at that lake. Oh and my school mate Mike Senic caught a 20lb tiger muskey around 1977

I grew up on Eastshore. My dad's house is in the video. I desperately want to move back there but the prices are crazy. Good for him, bad for me.

It’s wild how quickly the prices have increased. I sold a house under $200k over there several years ago, south of East shore where the smaller houses are. Not a whole lot of options over there to say the least.

What I’m saying is people should go and see what I
The traffic is like around 6pm to where their job is when moving to anywhere around metro Detroit. Most that move there never expect a 2 hour commute. I lived about 15 miles from my job. That would take an hour and half between 6am-9am or 4pm-630pm. With no accidents.

I have lived in the Hamburg and Pinckney area for over 35 years which is west of 23 from Whitmore Lake. Its now starting to get over-built IMO and plan on moving further out. The draw out here now is the chains of lakes and with all the new builds its just ruining the area and lakes

"Starting to get overbuilt"???? It's been overbuilt for quite some time!
Family has been here since 1833. My daughter is 8th gen, still on the little remaining original homestead property.
The sheep pasture, when Granny was a kid, is now soccer fields. That's also where the original homestead was.
We've still got a couple pictures showing Merrill Rd. as barely even a 2-track, splitting the farm. We also still have the original land grant documents, signed by Andrew Jackson!

Haha. Back in the 90s a girl tried to fight me at a bar. She was from Whitmore Lake. 😆🥴. Tom Adler from Adler Homes built up that area. My Family owns Brown Drilling Co and drilled all the wells back then. Mr. Adler & My Dad had done business since the 70s. They both were good men & sucessful. Those were the good ol’ days. They canceled the fireworks back in the late 80s I believe because so many people would stop on 23 it became a hazard. Do they have fireworks now?

The US Post Office says Whitmore Lake, 48189, though the political subdivisions are Northfield & Green Oak twp. The schools are as good as you put into them. They have produced doctors, lawyers, engineers, computer scientists and other professionals, as well as honest, hardworking middle class employees. Many go on to universities like UM and MSU. The well water isn’t bad with the proper filtration system. The 4th of July carnival was discontinued in the 80’s when the police got beat up by the carnies. The Police Chief would not sign the permit after that. Fireworks have been continuous on the 4th, now being shot from a barge on the water. Climate change has affected the winter celebration because ice formation is so iffy. The annual Pond Hockey tournament seems to be canceled every other year because of it. I’ve been here 47 yrs so I’ve seen a lot of changes, some good, others not so good. The high school building is 10 yrs old, the elementary school is 30 yrs old, but well kept.

Thats true it is a small lake town. Like most places out in this area you have to go to Brighton or Ann Arbor for shopping or dining. Yes, we always called it shitmore lake. Whitmore Lake and Hamburg were thought of as white trash areas back in the day. I lived in Pinckney for a while and that was a mixture of farmers, rednecks, and upper middle class commuters whose children were all entitled little asshole stoners. We moved away from there 20 years ago and instantly knew we made the right decision.

This area is quickly becoming as packed as the areas people are trying to get away from, by coming here. It is no longer "country living".
Way too many city dwellers, thinking they wanted country...their city BS came right along with them. It used to only take 15-20 minutes to get to Brighton. On a good day, it's 35-45...then another 15-20 to get anywhere in Brighton. Too many people, in too much of a hurry. Don't even get me started on all the roundabouts that nobody seems to understand when THEY are supposed to yield...or make a right turn from the left lane!
My family has been in the area since 1833...and we're still on original family property (I'm 7th gen). We still have the land grant papers, signed by Andrew Jackson!
It's a shame, this area has been ruined.

Interested parties obtained enough signatures to challenge and get it on the ballot but township voters said “NO!” once and for all. Best decision ever. Those places are mostly magnets for undesirables, the few medical and fewer responsible users aside. The few benefits are outweighed by the bad, IMO.

Spent my high school years, and several years after school in Whitmore. It's a shit hole. The only upside is it's a 30 minute drive to Ann Arbor when it isn't rush hour. Driving north to Brighton can vary from 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on rush hours.
There's one public access boat launch. Every other inch of lake front property is taken up by an overpriced tiny home, a mid sized house that's massively overpriced, or a failing business or club.
Then you have the strong white supremacist population living in Whitmore.
If commuting to Ann Arbor is the only focus of your house hunt, then go for it, but Whitmore has nothing else going for it.

Great place to live! The wonderful water and wild woods are almost enough to make you forget the extreme income disparities along with high sales, income, gas and property taxes. Not to mention the failing public schools, unions, medical systems and infrastructure. Corrupt anti-buisness grifting politicians, over zealous bureaucrats, and social and structural racism all combined to create an elite class of governmental succubi. All of this which is still subservient to the auto industry that supported the original NAFTA and the gutting of the industrial base in the 90's. Which Michigan suffered through the lost decade, the only state to lose population in the ten years before 2000. Sure move to Michigan and suffer.
