    How is the paint holding up a year later? Do you guys get much rain where you live? I’m also building a camper and paint is definitely a much cheaper option as to filon wrapping it! Love the build, happy camping!

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma 3 дня назад

      Paint is holding up perfectly. It’s marine grade bilge paint so it’s pretty tough stuff and high quality. We don’t get muck rain in socal but lots of sun. No issue with sun either. Trucks always outside. I just maintain it weekly with washes and a spray wax to keep it looking new. If I lived in a super rainy place i probably would have skinned the camper with a thin aluminum sheet just to be safe instead of my wood. I did marine seal everything before paint which I’m sure you saw in the videos as well. Good luck. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT. ✌🏼

    Perhaps the best demo and design/build I've ever seen. But...the deconstruction for sealing/paint was painful to watch. I would have done all that up front as the panels were built and fitted. Touch up goofs later. Outstanding attention to detail. I hope you're having some great trips .

    I’d like to build a camper for my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab , 6’ bed pickup. It would need to be a cab over. I’d install solar panels on the roof. It would have to be insulated for early spring through late fall camping fun. We live in north central Washington state up in the mountains and here at our house we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter, so in the areas that we enjoy camping are unavailable in the winter.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Месяц назад

      Sounds like a good project. I would suggest using an aluminum exterior skin since you’re in a much wetter climate than me. My wood is holding up well, but I’d be worried in the PNW wet. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 Месяц назад

      @@TravelingbyTacoma The Left side of Washington gets all of the rain. In our area we get normal rainfall in the spring and fall. No rain during the summer and a LOT of snow in the winter. Three years ago we had 2 feet of snow on the ground and a bad storm came in. We got an additional 3 feet in 10 hours. I felt so bad for my wife as I had shoulder surgery two weeks prior, so she had to get out and use our snow thrower to clear our driveway. There’s 9 families who live on our private road so thankfully Everyone was snowed in so there are 3 families who have a snow plow blade on their tractor’s, so they cleared our road to the county toad.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Месяц назад

      I haven’t been filming much, just using the camper and having fun with it. I’m not very good at the whole RUclipsr blog style videos lol. I may make one, but if you have any questions I’ll answer them. Things I’d do differently- make it a bit wider so it’s easier I take on and off and a little more room inside ( bed is plenty big for us -bigger than our rooftop tent was) but would be good to sit more comfortably inside when trapped by weather or mosquitoes. I figured out a way to raise it safely without the wedges if you’ve seen that process. I eliminated those and there’s a permanent x of webbing that stabilizes the roof on each side…way better and way faster. You can see them if you zoom in on my last insta post. Other than that it’s been rad. Paint is holding up great (boat bilge paint is pretty tough stuff) no leaks, no cracks and still get an avg of 17.5 mpg. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy 4th. ✌🏼

      Thanks for watching. The camper is about 750lbs dry weight. I don’t have a heating system, we live in Southern California and don’t really need heating with the insulation. We use a heater buddy if it’s cold enough, but that’s almost way too hot. 🥵 Good luck. TbT.

    The first video I watched was your walk around of your truck where you raised the roof. The first thing I noticed was this tarp. Thanks for explaining it. I would have liked a more detailed explanation. Thanks.

    A lot of thought went into the design and it ended up beautiful. The brackets are so secure. The sliders will ease dismounting and mounting.

    Is that insulation good for reducing some sound outside? Just curious cause i hear people sometimes have too much noise, mostly in van builds.

      It’s great. Works well stays cool and warm when needed and most importantly it’s way quieter when there is wind than our old RTT.

    Custom door with custom lock is nice! Maybe I'll do something like this if I get the chance.
