Would love to see a long term review of the camper including the type of terrain it was taken on. Cool, I’ll probably do a 1 year review when that comes it’s been on my truck about 6 months now and so far so good. I average about 18mpg. The door and roof are well sealed with neoprene rubber weather seals and have many miles on dusty road and not much dust intrusion if any. I grew up riding and racing moto in SoCal -I’m 50- . Don’t ride anymore, but haven’t missed a supercross or outdoor race in 20 years. Your boys (Jet and Hunter) are great for the sport, congrats. Poor Reedy, the old 22 must be so butt hurt those young ozzy’s are out doing him. 😂 I was always a Reed fan, but he’s kinda got an ego, Kenny 94 is my guy. Looking forward to the 2024 season, gonna be a good one. 🤙🏼

      Thanks. It’s holding up well. Use good plywood and don’t leave anything unsealed or unpainted, water will find it. Mines holding up well and I’m pretty happy with the results and feel good about its longevity. It will require maintenance as any painted surface will of course, but that’s part of the fun. Cool. No no metal on the tub part on mine. Just a lot of glue and screws and sealed the seams as best as possible. Then I painted it will a few thick layers of heavy duty exterior water resistant black paint. It really doesn’t get too much exposure under there. Good luck. Hope that helps.

    Looks great! One of the best builds that I’ve seen. Not to critique, but the only thing I would change is to cut the front and back fold up walls in half, hinge them, and permanently attach to the roof. This would stabilize the roof when you pop it up, like a 4 wheel camper. I look forward to seeing what you did on the inside. Bravo! 👏

    Hi TBT, I have to say you did an INCREDIBLE Job!!! I watched many of these truck cap popup/campers, some good, some so so. I have to say this is one of the best builds! Kudos to you. You stated you may make a layout & share. That would be GREAT and I think all your subs would like that as well. Just putting in my 2 cents & giving you an idea to help build your channel. If you share the layout & material list in a link, you should have people like & share your channel first to get it & help build channel. Questions: 1) Do any bees or bugs build a nest or enter in between the top and sides? 2) I'm in NJ & here sometimes we get heavy snows, can the roof have a foot of snow do you know? 3) Are you thinking of putting in a vent on roof or if you put in bigger windows as you talked about on sides that would help pull air up and through. Isn't it hot inside even though it is Insulated? Thanks for all the sharing & really enjoyed your work! ENJOY!

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the nice comments. I’m not sure when or if I’ll put out design plans. I’d like to get some trips under my belt and work out any issues before I’d officially recommend my design to anyone. This is a work in progress and engineering as you go type of build…which is the most fun by the way. So far no bug issues. I tried to weatherstrip any were there was a gap for water most importantly and secondly mosquitoes. I’m close to being done with At process and I’ll have some more views of what I did in later videos. We may add a larger window and a roof vent at some point too for more ventilation. I’ve spent a lot of time in there building out the inside and it’s pretty nice with both windows open now. Still, we’ll do some test runs this summer and work out the bugs. Thanks for watching, following along and commenting. TbT

      Thanks! I’m aware people are part of the payload calc. We should be under GVWR when fully loaded still. I’ve upgraded by suspension and got E load rated tires for the added weight. It’s been in there for over a month and so far so good. Lost a few MPG’s (about 3 we average 18mpgs currently) My buddies 4wheel camper is close to 1400lbs on his taco so I’m no too worried about mine. No way I’ll be that heavy…but if we are, we can go on a diet. 😂😂Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT

    Top notch build series. I’ve been watching since the beginning. I started my camper and have completed the tub . I’m struggling with what overall width to go with. I’m using the same brophy jacks. I want it wide enough to be able to clear the jacks but narrow as possible. I came up with 72” wide but it looks like you were able to go only as wide as the top of the truck bed . Are you able to clear the jacks at that width?

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  Год назад +1

      Haha, yes I forgot to mention that in my video. I actually added 2 pieces of steel plate about 9 x 28” long to the Jack plate. I it helps but still not wide enough to drive under and drop the camper on the truck. The platform I built helps with sliding it in as well as the aluminum roller tubes. Not perfect and I would have made it wider if I thought that far ahead 🤷🏼‍♂️. I don’t plan on taking it off and on too much so it not a huge concern. Good luck with yours and thanks for watching and commenting. TbT

      @TravelingbyTacoma  Год назад

      Yep each screw has some sealant in each hole, a bunch behind the edge aluminum and then all the edges sealed again. They’re wood screws so if you don’t over tighten them they’re fine to take in and out a few times. Any that weren’t or spun got replaced with the same screw type 1/4 in longer. Do you have any dimensions I can access that isn't a task for you? I have the exact same model as you and you've inspired me. I'm a fabricator though so I'm using 1" aluminum square tube and it would be *SO AWESOME* to have the numbers and not waste any aluminum. It's not cheap.
    I'd be totally open to subbing to a patreon or something too if you want to go that route!!

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  Год назад +1

      Thanks. I don’t have any extensive plans for dims yet. I may draw something up when I’m 100% done and make them available. A few tips from my build: I used 8’ side pieces so there were not any seams in the side panels. I made mine 6’5” tall inside for my height, but if you’re shorter make it fit you (but it will reduce the bed higher area when you’re in the bed) if you make your pop up shorter. I should have made my camper wider so my lift jacks could lift the camper and I can drive out from under it. Everything else is just measuring to your preference. I didn’t want my camper to hang off the back so I made it flush with the back bumper. When you build out the inside I’d suggest putting the majority of to your weight on the passenger side since the tacos fuel tank is on the drivers helps with taco lean. Hope that helps and have fun with your build. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
