I built a truck camper in 1967. Did it in the open in a trailer park with none electric hand tools. I saw you doing this in your driveway and I had to watch. Your skill and ingenuity far surpassed mine.
GREAT JOB! Enjoyed the series
That’s cool, what a project with hand tools. Wow. Thanks and thanks for watching and commenting, glad you enjoyed the series. TbT
Awesome!! I'm supposed to be working from home, just watched every episode. Time, well, .. Spent. I'm building one straight away. thank you!!
Haha. Thanks. Good luck. There are links to most of the parts I used in n the later episodes video descriptions. Thanks for watching and commenting. It’s appreciated. TbT 🤙🏼
I’ve really enjoyed your camper build. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed it. ✌🏼TbT.
Very clever idea and great way to maximize your space while out on the trail! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. ;)
Well thanks. Maybe I’ll take you with me. 😉😘😘
What a great idea 😉☺️😘
😉
That Aluminum store you go to looks Awesome !!
Great Job !! As usual !!👍
Thanks. It sure is, as a former "woodworker" stepping into the metal fab world is a bit intimidating, but that place is great. So much to choose from and no contractor account needed...just walk in pick out what you need a pay. Thanks for watching and commenting, it's appreciated. TbT
This is a very cool simple diy table! also the propane tank holder is a great addition!
Thanks ! 🤙🏼
I've also seen folks build in storage for a 4-6ft folding table on the underside of the bed area where it overhangs the cab. With brackets on each side it slides in then has a locking mechanism so the table can't slide back out. I am gonna build one on mine. In addition to a fold down side table for cooking. But if you need more table space it is a nice idea that you can do easily.
is there enough room between the wall and where the table folds up to store the stove? if you made a tiny bracket/holder for it?
I’ve thought about adding a table holder under the overhang, but it’s not very big. I have a table that I strap inside the camper when traveling that works well. Thanks for watching and commenting, TbT
I have added an upper fold up/down shelf since I’ve filmed this video so no room for that. I think our camp kitchen is pretty good for now. A few more trips to dial in and maybe add some stuff if needed then. Thanks again for watching and commenting, it’s appreciated. TbT
Haha, I know that neighborhood. Hello from a fellow San Diegan!
🤙🏼. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
That 1/4 sheet sander's got some miles on it.😜
Haha. Most of my tools are long in the tooth lol. They get it done though. Thanks for watching and commenting. ✌🏼. TbT.
Looking good.
Thank you. ✌🏻
Blows my mind that I spent $45k on a brand new Ute and I’ve got to spend $300 to fix a diabolical factory throttle.
BUT I’m super glad there’s at least a solution to soggy throttle syndrome
Works well on my Tacoma. Thanks for working and commenting. TbT
Just got my Tacoma so subscribed to your channel and going to see what I can do to camp with my Tacoma, I may have a lot of questions lol
Haha. No worries. Welcome to the club. Just take it camping as is and you’ll know what is most important after a few trips. We started with ground tents many years ago, moved up to a RTT and now the camper. Check out my older Roof top tent builds for some inspiration. Take your time, figure where your money is spent best, build your own if you can. Good luck and thanks for the sub, views and comment. TbT ✌🏻
nice fold out table you are always giving me ideas :) looks like you use the San Diego location I use the Irvine location, by far one of the best metal shops around
Thanks! Yeah, that place is great. They have everything and their remnant pile(s) and remnant pricing is great. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
Hi I like how your making all your campers. I have a Chevy Avalanche that I would like made into one. Just gotta get some suggestions. I have the mid-gate that folds down and it opens the backseat for more space. If you have any ideas that would be great . Thanks
Thanks. The best advice I can give is measure everything in you truck bed and make lots of drawings before you build. I’m not super familiar with that truck so taking your time and planning it out would be my best advice. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.
Ok great 👌
I'll draw up a plan and kinda go off your video and some others as well. Thanks for responding back 👍
Good luck 👍🏼
Hi buddy ..I'm almost watching every your video of building this Camper . How heavy on the end is your Camper .?? And Also , I can't find how and where you set the HEATING in the camper (which video ) Thx for everything and ready for starting doing my because I sale my Trailer - Hideout . I'm very good handyman.! I wish you good enjoyment in everything as well as nature. Huge LIKE & SUB's Greetings from Canada. 🤙🍺💕🍁🌿🍷👏
Thanks for watching. The camper is about 750lbs dry weight. I don’t have a heating system, we live in Southern California and don’t really need heating with the insulation. We use a heater buddy if it’s cold enough, but that’s almost way too hot. 🥵 Good luck. TbT.
@@TravelingbyTacoma Ok..thx Sorry I think you are little bit North ..ok.. Best regards to you and your family.! 👏🚚🌿🍁🍷🍺🤙
I'm really curious about if the metal strips (between fixed wall and foldable wall) work 100% against water coming in? Did it rain since you build it 😂...i red you from cali so idk if its raining there from time to time :)
Ha! Yeah we kind of plan our trips around the rare rain down here. It works fine, been in rain up in Oregon. The wall has weatherstripping all around that seals when closed and the folding wall has a rubber 1” overlapping drip edge to help prevent any water entering that seam. We haven’t been in anything crazy (sideways rain) but so far so good. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
@@TravelingbyTacoma thx mate! Here in sweden the rain is more common then the sun haha
Would be nice to see a video on all this specific details you came up with one day! Have a good one :)
very nice job can you tell me what was your total cost ?
Thanks. Full camper build or the side table? Camper was about $4500 -$1100 of that was custom upholstery for the seats and bed.totally worth It, I can’t sew …just incase, the fold down table was about $50. 😂🤙🏼. Thanks for watching and commenting, it’s appreciated. TbT
i really enjoy all of videos do you have the plans to built @@TravelingbyTacoma
No plans, sorry. Just the videos for inspiration. 👍🏻
Whats your mpg like with and without the camper? Also how much does it weight?? I'm looking into building one
I get right around 18mpg (freeway) about 16mpg (in town) depending on the season - California has 2 types of fuel, winter and summer blend. Summer blend is better. The camper weight is right around 750lbs before its loaded with stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting... good luck with your build. TbT
@@TravelingbyTacoma yeah I'm in Sacramento, thats great mpg with that, I thought air dynamics would get you horrible mpg
Well... I drive pretty slowly lol 63 to 65mph almost always, which really helps. 70+ there is no way I get that. Above 70 the mpg goes way way down. Proper tire inflation with the weight of the camper helps too.
How much did it weigh when you got done ???
It’s about 750 dry weight.
What is your total weight now?
Loaded for a weekend’r camping trip and both of us in there, it’s right about 5700lbs... last we weighed a few months back. Lighter obviously day to day dry empty weight. Don’t have an exact weight at this point. Truck gets 17.5 mpg on average freeway mpg(2wd 32” E-rated tires at 55/60 psi -63mph is the sweet spot for mpg on my truck. ) thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
