Learn to tighten spindle nuts with roller taper bearings
Very helpful
Too bad you have such poor lighting. You could have made the video easier just talking it through with proper lightinh. Oh well thanks for posting will go find a better one
Use a lanolin or diesel/paraffin type of rust preventer. That stuff can creep in and seal the nooks and crannies. No more oxygen, no continued rust. Downside is the coating doesn’t look nice, but it works. The paint type coatings tend to flake and then hold water inside to further accelerate the corrosion. The upside on the hard coatings, is that the frame looks good until it fails completely.
I would have liked to see how you got the shackle bolts off. Using the bumper must be nice, mine has only the chrome left. All the metal has rusted away. General Motors cheaper idea.
… this video has been brought to you by potato, the BEST in video production.
Glad this is still up. Very helpful video.
..thanks for sharing...winching on that desert-like area is useless (in my opinion), I mean there's no anchor point that you can use for your winch...
It's like GM uses rust-attracting paint
Great video! Thank you
That’s it? Lol. My parts truck went on keto while I removed the transmission.
Thank you. My mounting bolt broke and the tensioner flew off. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't go back on. This explains it. Got the spring back on the lug, took about a minute. The trick I used was to use a pry bar to just pry it up on the lug (screw drivers are for driving screws, haha). Mine was also smooth and slanted to the inside, so I had to put a little groove in it. If the groove is small enough and close enough to the inside the spring will not push down so far that it will be past the lug mounting surface. Since mine was smooth I assume they want it to slide back down after installation. The way mine is it doesn't matter because I made sure the spring was above the mounting surface, but it would be simple matter of prying it up over the groove and back onto the bracket lug (I filed just enough to hold it for installation). I suspect the groove should be out a little further so that when you tighten it down it pushes the spring over the ridge in the tensioner lug and back onto the bracket lug. It will work either way.
Fair play to your dedication for this experiment for ot just your own curiosity but also so we can all see how these products on their own . Its clear to see certain products would look good as new had they just been touched up and ots noce to know what is more durable and what products fail to prevent the cancer that is rust
What did you apply to the frame after you grinded the it?
Grease. 7 years later still no rust
That is wild.
I just did this exact same process to my 2012 GMC 3500 dually took me four days, wasn’t as bad as yours maybe half the rust. After I sprayed 1 gallon of rust converter on it and let it dry for a few days then I made my own protection spray, 1 gallon of chainsaw bar oil, 1/2 gallon of linseed oil, 1 quart of anti rust oil and 6 toilet wax seals, I’m hoping to get another five years out of it. Great video!
960 is not the same as 940. Suspension, wheels, motor, gearbox, electronics all quite different. I have a 1998 V90 (= renamed 960). Beautiful car. 205 bhp. Worst job was replacing the heater matrix and rinsing and drying the carpets - took a week of hard work.
Don't lick it :O
Nice bro I have the same color!
Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned
@@troutjunkie7330 seriously man it’s insane haha I’m at 250 now and staring to have a lot of a small issues but it’s all easy stuff to do yourself. Alternator, fuel pump, starter
Now you have a lighter truck better mpg
Using ice pellets?
Thank you so much for this video. I was sitting here thinking I was crazy.
Great job explaining this to people who might not know this. Installing a Mishimoto like this cooler tomorrow on my 2012 Ram. 😂, no matter how you think you can stop that drill bit before going into the radiator... it's better to be on the safe side. Stick the end of the rubber hose in some real hot water and it will slip on easier. Still watching, love that wire and zip tie tip . I'm gonna use that. Real great video and I watched a few.
This surely works. 5 years now and no new rust on my truck in rust belt alberta. Ive found another type of grease you should check out. Its called rod grease. They use it in the oilfeild. Super thick and sticky. you dont need to mix nothing with this stuff. Doesnt wash off and made to protect from corrosion.
Never use the hammer to insert a bearing. Put a flat surface on the whole bearing and tap the surface of the peice you use, never hit the bearing EVER.
Did GM/CHEV ever get miserable Cheap when it came to manufacturing those wafer thin bumpers you have the jack using. They should be embarrassed because there was a time you could even hook a tow chain right to the bumper.THANKS for the video.
At first I thought that was a terrible way to do it but damn that was fast and effective. Lol thanks!
I love the way you are living in a paralell universe to me. Astro van, camper, ramps made by sandwiching boards together, kawasaki ex500, DIY, dog etc. Great vid man very helpful. Are you on the astro safari forum? My username is the same there as here.
set the router (same one I have :-) to dhcp, you can asign pass's to every ip that connects... lol you can also ban ip's from connecting,,,,, so when the try to connect they wont ever get to the password.... easy to tell who they are because the ip's go by hardware id... one you ban the id the device is basically ignored by the router lol
To resolve the battery drain, you re-routed the incoming power to the #15 fuse? Is that it? Do you have any more details on this procedure? Like exactly how you did it?
Nuts
bro, hammer all the rust off that frame and there aint no frame left
There is parking on hunter creek, you just didn’t bother looking, most likely because it seems you had a motive to expose some economic disparity and privilege. Not going to argue that as I am far beyond being a 1%er, or the .1%er that can own here. But I know the fishing, and accessibility well, and your points aren’t justified. There is parking available at various spots for Hunter Creek, including an area .15mile below those handicapped spots. You could have parked at the bottom and just hiked the trail fishing all along it and had a ton of fun catching brookies on every other cast. You literally biked up Woody Creek Road, but you couldn’t hike up a beginner level trail. Same with Woody Creek. As ridiculous as Aspen is, it is also a very active community. As the saying goes for the ski season, you gotta earn your turns. Thing is, it’s not that hard. There was definitely a fail on your part, just not how you perceive.
Great video but it would be awesome if you could show how to connect up to a 2500 HD Silverado with the Allison that has 5/8ths size transmission lines. this tru cool kit with its 3/8 hose, and fittings will not work...
This makes me feel extremely nostalgic, we used to have an Astro that we took road trips with when I was little, so this brings me back to that, I want an Astro myself now 😊
Great job!! All the Details that I needed great job showing how to install the cooler
THAT TRUCK NEEDS A NEW FRAME. And people wonder why their frames break and bend .

I was moving across the country and sold it 8 years ago. Regret it every day. I sold it for $2800. Now in this condition they go for 10K.
@@troutjunkie7330 Aww man that's definitely hurtful it was in pristine condition yes they have gone up in value thank you for the reply 🤘🏼
Do you think that if fluid film had been applied on top of all your work it would have taken longer if I am planning to do the same thing? Only unlike applying a coat of Fluid film over the entire work.
do you think xion labs 2 in 1 would work here?
Lol, half the frame is gone, you need to replace some metal and weld... GM closed frames... rust heaven inside the frame.
Those thick layers of rust falling off is that thinning the frame?
Excellent video test. You definitely proved that lithium grease is the winner for rust protection. Dumb question - did you buy a certain kind/ brand of lithium grease, that you used before? It worked well.
It was cheapest I could find at Walmart
This will become a lightweight race car.
Lol I do this for a living.

Very nice demonstration, much appreciated.
That's a cool idea. I used a commercial pressure washer to knock off all the excess loose material. Worked great. Have to attack the rest of it by hand before treatment. Make sure you got that ear protection broski.
