The bolts on the thermostat cover of my V90 (= 1998 960) were seized. The garage owner said (in French) "We don't want to snap those off...". He inserted a torx bit into the first bolt and gave it two sharp hits with a hammer. Likewise for the second bolt. The two bolts then undid easily.
Since then, I have used the same trick with other bolts that were reluctant to undo, including sump plugs. Works every time.

I just purchased recently a 1997 960 wagon. It's a very well taken care of car. Just wanted to thank you for tips when I eventually replace belt and pulleys etc. I would have liked to watch you do the seals but I understand..

Still interested in those square bodies I see. Nice tips, glad to see you still doing your repairs yourself like most people should learn to do.

I'm too cheap to pay for someone else to do it. Are you still driving that Caddy?

Dear Sir, I have a problem, and that is that the pistons make noise when I accelerate (knocking?), and I don't know how to fix it. Normally the noise starts to be heard when the engine is warm

Pistons make noise when cold and rarely when accelerating. Usually valves are the noise makers under load on hot engine
