The Enterprise Superstructure Question: what was under the bridge?
A return visit to the original 1960s Enterprise: we know what was inside the upper bridge superstructure, but what was inside the lower part? Here, we use the Franz Joseph blueprints to speculate.

The Tardis Console of the 11th Doctor: how to pilot your time machine

It is one of those ironies that one of my favourite periods in ‘Doctor Who’ television history also happens to feature one of my least favourite consoles. Such is life. But now, after much procrastination on my part, we will look at the Tardis console of Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, and learn how to pilot our TT capsule (at least, according to the DWA). Published in 1886, Jules Verne’s ‘Robur the Conqueror’, also known as ‘Clipper of the Clouds’, is a story similar in basic structure to ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’. We have a genius engineer of independent means, Robur; he has invented a flying machine, the Albatross; he kidnaps three people and takes them on a journey that demonstrates his mastery of the air. In this video, we shal...

Ships sink, at times with great loss of life, and yet the Royal Mail Steamer Titanic remains supreme in our minds. What is it that makes the Titanic and her sinking unique? Why do we remember her ahead of so many others? In this video, we attempt to answer this question. The Starship That Got Away: which one survived Wolf 359?
Просмотров 49 тыс.4 месяца назад
One of my favourite TNG scenes is in ‘The Best of Both Worlds, Part II’, when the Enterprise encounters the aftermath of Wolf 359. It is eerie to see the destruction, knowing we have missed the action. It is the calm after the storm, and wreckage sparks and the life signs are negative. Forty starships gathered at Wolf 359; thirty-nine were destroyed. One starship clearly survived. But, which on...

The Kirk's Quarters Question: why so small?

In what you might well consider a very British angle on the subject, we consider the quarters of Captain James Kirk. He was the captain, an important man, so why was his cabin so small? In this video, we ponder over the significance of magnificence (told you it was a British angle), and also offer a suggestion for the best location for suitable captain's accommodation, using the idea of 'the gr...

Trolls. Trolls live under bridges... Either that or all the stocks of explodium for the Bridge.
Its already been mentined 30 years ago !
Your microphone used for THIS voiceover is markedly more muffled than almost all your other videos. It is much more difficult to hear and understand you in this video because of that.
Why there were no Engineers in the Deflector Dish area is explained in the movie. Not sure how you were confused by this? This was a test run with a skeleton crew. It was a Press run. You even touch on it here, but still, you’re confused by it.
Not that I'm a fan of any new trek, but didn't Geordi state that the Syracuse donated its engines and not the entire star drive? If that's the case, the Syracuse could be anything, most likely a Nebula-class.
One thing with the size of captain's quarters that I always questioned with Star Trek is that Star Fleet treats captains in command of ships the same as the admiralty when it comes to things like quarters, perks, etc. Worf and Kira get into a discussion about this in an episode where DS9 is hosting a conference or something. That being the case, one would think that a captain's quarters would be larger like those of admiralty on ships and include more than the two rooms. I would think they would have a layout and functionality similar to say an Iowa Class Battleship on that note.
00:30 - FJD blueprints have " long since fallen out of canon"?
While I agree with your first points, the last one about the Captain needing to be large and impressive I disagree. Take a look at the current Royal Navy; the Captain of Carriers have two cabins; A 'Sea Cabin' (called "Ready Room" in Star Trek) where he lives, eats, and sleeps when the ship is at sea, and a 'Day Cabin' which contains the formal rooms which, in other circumstances, pull double duty as the ship's office where he holds mission briefings, and does all the important administrative work required to keep a modern warship running. In fact, while at Sea, the Captain doesn't even have dinner with other officers; he has his meals alone, in his Sea Cabin.
That's life on a ship
I am wanting to see a breakdown of what I think is the most underrated moment in ST II TWOK, and why it seemed so good...visually and musically (thanks to J. Horner). It starts with Kirk saying "Sulu, get us out of here, best possible speed". and the Enterprise slowly does a reverse 180° turn...one of my favorite moments, and it was very dramatic on screen.
What?? I always figured the vertical warp core was entirely within the secondary (Engineering) hull, leaving the connecting dorsal free for the photon torpedo launcher and any turbo lifts or Jeffries tubes, not to mention other supporting infrastructure like power cables, running water, data cables, etc…
it's bigger than my apartment, so why is everyone bitchin'?
Hi! What color is the propeller?
Terrible audio…
Terrible audio. Next time listen to your video before posting.
In TOS, the Enterprise was a light cruiser. Not alot of room for frivolous staterooms.
Kirk's ready room and a conference room. There are stairs hidden behind the panels on both sides of the viewscreen too.
There is NO bridge mystery. It was designed for the camera angle, so that people can be seen going into or coming out of the turbo and other production reasons. When doing this NO ONE thought about anything other than that. The bridge faces forward and you must just ignore where the turbo lift is. IT WAS ONLY A SHOW PEOPLE!
While I love the FJ blueprints, I don’t believe in the 36 degree offset bridge. FJ was trying to reconcile the obvious difference between the shooting bridge set and the filming model. In my head-canon (and other fan’s), there’s enough room to shift the turbo lift pod laterally. This also allows for a standby pod to be available. There are scenes where someone leaves the bridge and seconds later the doors open and someone enters from what has to be another pod. When TOMY made the TOS 1/350 die-cast model, the team of expert advisors decided to center the bridge and not offset it.
Hello: I think the theory of a newly-build Enterprise is better and less dark, remember this is not a Kurtzman-era trek movie. So, the ship been a newly-build one, it would explain Star Trek V's dialogues, but maybe, the ship been decomissioned was not because of the ship itself, but because of the command crew that was just about to retire as stated at the beginning of Star Trek VI, so Starfleet would make them retire and take the ship for the Fleet Museum (as we later saw in "Picard").
I would think there would be a 'blank' deck or perhaps a high security area to prevent saboteurs from planting explosives underneath.
They totally butchered these sets for TNG
I don't think the ship was retired at the end of "Undiscovered Country." Just the captain and bridge crew I believe. I assumed that it was eventually handed off to a new captain after the events in the film.
May I ask, what software program are you using?
Created by Gene Roddenberry, with the original cast of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Majel Barrett, and TOS writers David Gerrold and D. C. Fontana, Star Trek, the Animated Series is full canon.
No where near as large as his ego - or hairpiece
Kirk's quarters didn't look like that in Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country. Might want to re-address this in revised video.
Concluding thoughts... those writers really need to make up their freaking minds.😅
The Imperial shuttle is way cooler but the Runabout is much more practical.
I STILL HAVE MYBLUEPRINTS FROM WHEN I WENT TO A TREK CONVENTION IN 1974 AND THEY'RE ALL IN PERFECT CONDITION. THERE WERE SCIENCE OFFICES ON DECKS 2 & 3.
Very nicely done It is shame they didn’t name the first “phase” (more on that in minute) after the space shuttles. Star Trek: Enterprise was on course to do just that but was cut far too short. Your suggestion of “batches” is very similar to the rail fan term “phases” to describe the minute visual changes in production units that we not recognized by manufacturer but were visible to the the eye of enthusiasts……
The person who, "wrote" this has no clue as to what the society Star Trek takes place in is about. There is no currency, there is no need to be fancy to "impress" people. The ships are exploratory and not military. All of this is explained multiple times. Interior space is still at a premium. Furnishing placement on the show mostly had to do with where the camera's can go to get the shot. The command structure was loosely borrowed form Roddenberry's Naval experience. There is, "liberal" bias, because the show is about a bright future after the Earth almost destroyed itself by following Fascism and Eugenics. Same as the US at the time, which was leaning away from the right due to the Vietnam wars mismanagement. Overall: poorly done.
The Scale is all wrong compared to the bridge above. There is only enough room for one deck below the bridge, not two, despite what any plans say.
Who's to say that the name, "Syracuse," hasn't become something legendary by the time of TNG? Sure, as of 2024 AD, the name Syracuse for a starship is not impressive... but a lot of centuries have yet to pass. Perhaps some great event within the Star Trek universe occurs where a vessel, place, or person called Syracuse did something incredible... and thus it is more than worthy to name a Galaxy class in honor of it.
You should learn about captains cabins on board navy ships. They usually have 2 cabins, an in port cabin which is larger, and is as you would want it to be, lavish etc. But the one the captain would use most is the at sea cabin, which is the size of a normal officer's cabin but with a private bathroom, and is just off the bridge, when the ship is at sea, the captain would spend most of his time between his at sea cabin and the bridge, not in his lavish cabin, which would mainly be used for entertaining visiting dignitaries.
Mr Trek is currently building this
Yeah I think 🤔 they just repainted the original model 🖖🎅🎄
Deck 2 was under the Bridge! DUH!
It’s a massage parlor. Move along move along!
For me, the 1954 Paramount Pictures was my definitive version of the classic story… especially considering that they used sound effects that would be used in Star Trek TOS
In the context of the Story, both Enterprise's were given new bridge module for each "adventure"
Everybody knows, (well,at least all devoted Trekkies!) that "The Enterprise", was originally conceived, copied and designed from the old sailing ships which carried cargo and explored new lands and territories, right?🫤
Thank you.
My head cannon for all the inconsistency the battle was that it wasn't all the ships engaging the cube at the same time. But rather in groups, and over the course of the of the cubes path to earth. As for the odd casualty numbers not matching the number of and stated types of ships is that many of the ships were not entirely destroyed, but mostly disabled, and that the Borg simply left many survivors with the intent to assimilate them later, the primary task being earth. So MOST of ships crews survived in escape pods, or in the wreckage. This requires us to hand wave away "No life signs and power signatures" this cannot be easily reconciled and at some point we have to merge the versions to create the best of all worlds with the LEAST retcon possible. So i find your idea of the casualty numbers makes more sense and better avoids retcons so it's now my new head canon for that contradiction. As far as Sisko i imagine his escape pod left the area during the battle while the Borg were distracted. While most everyone else was NOT so lucky.
It sure as hell wasn't shock absorbers!
