the upper part of the glass was supposed to move as well, but due to budget constraints and problems with the mechanism it was left static, also one of my only favorite things on this console is the demat lever and its sound, i love the idea of using a ship throttle as that lever hah!
Yeah, the sound design when he flipped-up the "handbrake" and pulled that lever was good. (Though I've still got a soft-spot for the weird little spinny thing 9 used.)
I have to first admit to being a classic fan and tend to look at the Eighth Doctor’s console and onwards as something not as liked. Mind you, I did like the steampunk console including in later animated (altered) form. The Ninth and Tenth Doctors’ console was a bit mixed for me. It was based on comic Eratosthenes Bryan Hitch’s concept, including the room. I could see his design in it and enjoyed that. With this console, I hated that yellow coral stuff but like you, liked the return to the shape. The next console was better, the room with the cool colours was more enjoyed. But I hated the carousel above the console. I’ve seen two of them in stills and clips since then. The latest all white is really nice. The console is not bad. Pity, the series has and is unwatchable since Capaldi departed. You wanna go nuts? Try making the Eighth’s control room or even the Peter Cushing control room. 😱😉
When this was new, I really liked this console. Though that's partly because my walls were yellow and covered in crap, so I feel a bit called-out by the teenager's bedroom comment ;) However, in the time since, I've come to really prefer its successor and predecessors more. I liked the maximalism back then, but now I appreciate the thematic through-line the others have more of. Now, I've come to be annoyed by all the light-up spinny things on this console which they take time to give loving close-ups to. Probably the only part I still agree with myself about is that pull-down TV, that thing is the proverbial dog's plums. Though even back then, I didn't like the metallic orbs inside the column. I always preferred when they're translucent light-up cylinders - probably because my dad showed me the 1996 TV movie to try and "fill me in" before the 2005 reboot (before realising he didn't really have to). I've always enjoyed how you can see the strongest relations between 8 and 9's consoles, compared to more drastic recent redesigns.

It does move if I remember correctly
@@TheMilkman-ur5ip It doesn't.

Red Dwarf reference acknowledged. Well done.
Yay were back with another Console and its one of my favourites
I’m pretty sure the top part of the rotor would lower as the bottom one lower as well, and vice versa.
