It kinda annoys me when people insult John Simm’s Saxon Master calling his performance ‘over the top’ and ‘unhinged’ and I’m like uh yeah that was the point he was driven insane by both the events of the Time War and the never ending constant drums in his mind it makes sense he’s be driven to being completely unhinged and truly dangerous as opposed to being more calm and controlled

The Master was granted a "new full set of regenerations" in return for assisting the Doctor in The Five Doctors. This mechanic could have also been used for Thirteen, instead of creating that thrice-damned Infinite Child nonsense. We could literally have a different actor as the Doctor every week now, sheer insanity.

    • @TastySalamanders
      @TastySalamanders 3 месяца назад +8

@@xheralt I mean before The Timeless Child stuff happened, the Doctor DID receive a new set of regenerations. That's how Eleven regenerated into Twelve in The Time of the Doctor (the War Doctor and the Meta-Crisis using up two regenerations). So it isn't even clear how the Timeless Child stuff is supposed to work with that.
(Also while the Master was indeed offered a new set of regenerations in The Five Doctors, he never ended up receiving them until the Time Lords resurrected him for the Time War.)

    • @carlrix4646

      @Nicolas-lz6pg 2 месяца назад +3

@@TastySalamanders An easy explaination for the Timeless child being compatible with the set of regeneration 11 received is that the Timelords had finds a way to stop the timeless child from regenerating past 13 lifes (given that The Doctor was freed from the Division by being turned into the first Doctor)
And that the removed this limitation in "The time of the Doctor" by making him believed that he received a new set of regenerations

But, along with additional versions of The Master and Doctor, there is one I’d like to find out more about, but not sure if there is/will be more. He regenerated into the next Master on Galifrey. But to no effect, the virus followed him through and Master #12 succumbed to the illness. I say it’s a new incarnation of the Master because, decaying body aside, he looks and acts completely different than Delgato’s 11th Master.

I know this only about the TV shows Masters, but the Dreyfuss Master, the Black Eyes Master and the Lumiat should be on this list.
I also love in audio, when all the Masters met at one point and Missy makes the comments about them...
SPOILERS (dont read, if you want to listen to it)
The reason all the Masters meet is the destruction of the universe and when the other Masters worry about it, Missy, pointing to the War Master, says "Thats because the universe got blown up, by Gandalfs husband over there" A really cool joke about the series "Vicious" were Jacobi and McKellen played an old married couple.
Later, when the Lumiat entered the Delgardo master is like "Who is that?" and Missy says "A scene stealing adition"
The Lumiat happend, after Missy. When Missy was shot, she couldnt regenerate, so she used the same ritual that created the Valeyard (the evil Doctor) she concentrated all what was good in her, to create the Lumiat an all good version of Missy.

The Master is a sociopath and therefore you can never go wrong in presenting the character with different ways to do evil in order to make themselves look big. Which is what appeals to an actor looking to just let out their dark side. Although the context of the original Master has changed, the evil that he represents in our culture is still present. And sometimes controls things we wish they did not.

12:20 This assertion is one of my biggest pet peeves. Tom Baker's Doctor made mention of a Time Lord as "He or she" and I'm certain he made mention of being a mother once or twice, though I can't find that quote so senility is possible. The idea, at least in the show, that Time Lords can regenerate as either gender is at least that old. Though in The Doctor's Wife, Tennent's Doctor found evidence of an old friend and specifically referenced their tendency to regenerate either way. Missy was just a great example on how to do it. Whittaker's Doctor left a lot to be desired on the topic, but i think that was mostly due to extremely poor writing.

Ooohh I totally missed, or just forgot, that Celestial Toy Maker had him incased in a gold tooth. Because the tooth was picked up by what appears to be a woman, when I saw the character "Maestro" later on in the new series, I though that was the master, until she is revealed she's a completely different unique villain, Jinkx Monsoon did a great job as a villain. Also gender swapping the Master as Missy was brilliant and she was well casted and written for.... However I can't say the same thing for Whittaker as the writing was subpar and felt a little forced since it seemed to be more about the Doctor being a woman than having a good story, which isn't what they did with the Missy character.

    Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!
    I got a lightbulb moment. 💡
The Harold Saxon Master and Missy turn on each other, right?
She stabs him, he shoots her.
Saxon recites to Missy this cheesy line: "Don't bother trying to regenerate, you got the full blast."
Maybe Saxon was convinced that the laser screwdriver shot was somehow efficient enough to kill her without letting her regenerate.
We know for a fact that that's possible. It happened to the Doctor in "Turn Left", among others.
And he is a scientific genius. Who am I to challenge his line of thought?
    But... *WHAT IF...?*
What if both fell and then Saxon regenerated into Missy?
Then Missy sees other Missy on the floor and helps her.
Which leads to Missy surviving and regenerating into something else (Lumiat? Spy Master?) instead.
This would give Missy's entire arc a whole new perspective, with her very slowly turning to the side of good despite knowing that she will eventually "die" for it.
Or... maybe she forgot about it, like the Doctor in the 50th Anniversary.

No mention of the Fatal Death Master? For shame!
Saxon Master didn't kill the US President. He killed the US President-Elect. Meaning he was elected but hadn't yet taken office. The previous President was still President. And the Doctor didn't fix that; he came back and stopped the Master shortly after the P-E was killed. That still happened. Also, the resurrection should count as a separate regeneration of the Master, just like the Meta-Crisis Doctor is a different Doctor than the 10th, and the 14th is a different Doctor than the 10th, and the Spy Master into the Doctor Master.

If the master can do all this to avoid death, so can the doctor. The doctor just refuses

This channel really needs to research big finish, cause this whole video is we don't know why or how this happens but big finish has explained it.
Also this ignores several incarnations of the master, including their first incarnation, the big finish master (who mainly fought the 8th doctor) the child war doctor and the good incarnation, plus the unbound master (who does have some level of interaction with the main timeline).
There is also the curse of fatal death master, who is somewhat canon, as all three 9th doctors are.

My favourite is Roger Delgado. However, the first Master was The Time Meddler. He was the monk. And He took place with the first Doctor, William Hartnell.

I still feel that the latter Masters are, in order, Saxon Master, then Spy Master, then Missy. Otherwise Missy's redemption arc doesn't make sense if she then goes back to being a genocidal manic as the Spy Master.

I think one of the better ideas for a spin-off show would be a show focusing on the Master.
They could switch the order, have Missy as the most recent, a now redeemed Master, who "somehow returns" (heh Star Wars reference), but it'd be fun, you'd not know if the Master is going to be a little killy, or friendly this specific episode lol

Big fan of the Master, but seem to be the only one who’s not a fan Missy’s “redemption” arc. Her death laugh is a “Yep, you’re right” to Saxon. Let’s not forget the Doctor turns up to her execution, she begs for her life, he throws the switch anyway and locks her in a vault. Cruel and Cowardly.

I really want a retcon that puts Dhawan somewhere in the Master's past, because while brilliant, placing him after Missy really takes away from the growth the character had made in that form.

I wish we could just keep one actor as the Master across multiple Doctors these days. Gets annoying for yet another “I’m the Master” with every new Doctor. Although the last 2 reveals nailed it both times.
