I remember the first time we watched James Cameron's Titanic my Grandmother was very adamant that she'd been on that ship - which was surprising because my grandmother was born in the late 1920s. After some questioning and research it turned out that she'd gone a school trip to Southampton and visited the Olympic while it was in harbour.
I cannot agree more with what is said in this entire video. Very well, and thoughtfully done. Very accurate regarding the Hollywood movie, loosely based on a true story.
Very good essay. One thing that should be mentioned is that many of the first lifeboats went away less than half full. This is due to many of the passengers not believed the ship would sink as she was “unsinkable”. It is, therefore, interesting to speculate who would have been saved as opposed to who perished IF all the lifeboats had gone away filled. Of course, not all would have been saved, but the numbers or proportions of the said saved, may have been drastically different.
I think a lot of it was the subconscious feeling that in the middle of the Atlantic a big warm lighted ship was simply safer than a tiny cold open rowboat. More an intuitive feeling than a conscious sort of knowledge.
I've been consuming a lot of Titanic media on RUclips between Honor & Glory, and Oceanliner Designs. Interesting to get a different perspective on it from your channel. I think you did Ismay dirty though. Oceanliner Designs has a good video explaining why his bad reputation after the sinking is unfair.
Do remember though that Oceanliner Designs is also an opinion, and that the OP of this video is also allowed to express his opinion. RUclips seems to have created almost mythical characters with regards to Titanic, where these RUclips celebrities are being taken as gospel on their opinions - many of them without a degree in history or an real life experience on how to analyse history or present it in an unbiased way.
Another interesting thing I’ve noticed in the past is there’s some overlap with Titanic and Star Trek interest. I’m sure it’s just down to their both ships but it’s interesting nonetheless.
This is an excellent, meticulously researched video of the TITANIC - and I can make that statement of VERY, VERY few other TITANIC video's (outside of Mike Brady at Oceanliner Designs, Sam at Historic Travels, and a smattering of others). Most video's are filled with falsehoods and bullsh*t. Not THIS one. I could not find ONE error in a first viewing. I highly recommend viewing this to the end. (AND we agree 100% on That Movie.)
They had plenty of time to break up some tables or pull up the boards, lash them together and make rafts. 2.5 hours is plenty. That ship went down truly in slow motion.
the Titanic stands for humandkind's achievement, and for gruesome death in the cold Atlanttic. The tale is not that the ship sunk, it is that it sank at his maiden voyage. The Titanic is a tale when we tried to be the elder gods. We have the spark of god in us, but how far will that carry us? The Titanic is a tale of human ambition. We will always try the seas. The Titanic is a traged of human lives lost. While so many more could have been saved. The Titanic is a reflection of ourselves, even today.
@toddkurzbard Know nothing about what? A project that has been going on for a decade and a half, taken a staggering amount of money and delivered nothing but disappointment and broken promises that many consider a scam? Outside of that, yeah I know nothing.

Brilliantly done.
Anyone else click this thinking it was an Oceanliners Design vid? 😂
Very well done!!!
You mean from Our Friend Mike Brady?
Good breakdown. Those different perspectives on the stats are fascinating!

Excellent video. You're totally right about the test of chivalry. You'd never know if you'd pass it unless you're there. Thank you!
Another superb video, thank you.

Hm, in that quote on the 20 minute mark, is that really exogesis (sic!) or rather exegesis?
1 she is bloodly huge

A Night to Remember is a much superior film.
Honor and Glory... yawn.
You obviously know nothing.
