    Good to know even the professionals get pain. I tend to favour the pain area and thereby 8:19 over stress other parts of my body and probably create even more problems for myself.

    Thanks so much for sharing your story Alicia and sharing some of the emotions you went through. I think too little consideration is given to ‘fixing’ the trauma experienced with nasty injuries and the subsequent fear of risking re-injury. Emotional recovery is just as important as physical because it can be really life-limiting to fear activities.

      Hi, We do also have physios of a range of ages at our company, many do in-home physio and also run groups up in our studio. Due to availability at this stage our online content just happens to be filmed by our young physios, however hopefully in the future, we may have some more people of other ages in our online content. At Be Mobile we do specialise in exercise for those over 55's. So although the physiotherapists are young themselves, they have a great deal of experience working with people over the age of 55 and have done and continue to keep up with the latest research for older adults.

      As I said, it can be normal for an ankle sprain to take several weeks to recover. You'll get there!

    I sprained my ankle and after 2 weeks it’s not fully healed. So annoying. Not sure what to do.

      Sorry to hear that! Depending on the type of sprain it can be very normal to take several weeks to recover. There are certainly exercises and things you can be doing to help it recover faster, so I suggest going to see a physiotherapist if you haven't yet.

      Interesting question! It's actually not true that most ex-pro-footballers have it, at least from the data we have been able to find. One study reported that hip OA (osteoarthritis) ranged from 2% to 60% in former elite athletes. Another study reported that the prevalence of (any joint) OA in retired Olympians was 23.2% overall with the knee most affected (7.4%). These rates are a little higher than general population that's true. But it's not necessarily true that "most" have it. As to why it might be more prevalent in former elite athletes.... these people do massive amounts of very intense exercise during their teens, 20s and 30s. Often there is significant financial incentive to work their bodies extremely hard and potentially to push through pain and injury. They also have higher rates of traumatic injuries (eg. knee ACL injuries etc) which do increase the risk for OA later in life. But this doesn't mean average people doing regular amounts of exercise are at an increased risk, in fact, they are clearly at a lower risk of developing OA.

      Thanks for you input. However, these are all true facts, they are not just our opinion. They are based on extensive clinical research, as well as national clinical practice guidelines, which health professionals around the world use when assessing, treating and managing this condition.

      No, this specifically does not include aquarobics. That's why the term "land-based" is used. Aquarobics is fine as a form of exercise but if you have joint arthritis, you need to be doing strengthening exercise on land, while the joint is under normal loading conditions - not exercising in water where the joint is unloaded. We live life on land, so our joints need to be strong enough for that.

      With a condition such as stenosis, you may have to modify or change some exercises. This one might not suit you, and that's ok. No exercise is a perfect solution for everyone, but everyone can find an exercise that suits them!

    If you do the wrist curl should it be heavy enough to cause pain in the affected area?

      It doesn't need to be heavy enough to cause pain. But it is generally ok if it does cause a bit of pain. It needs to be heavy enough to be challenging for your muscles. Let's say you intend to do 3 sets of 12 curls. For each set, by the 12th rep, it should feel like your muscles are fatiguing. It should feel like you couldn't do more than about 3 more curls. If after doing 12, you think you could keep going for another 5-10 without resting, then its not heavy enough.
