Добавлен 6 июл 2020
Hello, my name is Dave and welcome to the channel. DAB DIY documents our journey through the process of self teaching DIY mechanics and other DIY related tasks around the house and the garden. Along the way, my wife will feature on the channel and show some of her DIY projects and to demonstrate how she learns by doing. This is my way of recording our learning process and show progress on our projects. We have been doing this offline for a while now, so we thought it is time to start sharing it with anyone who is interested. These videos are not intended to be a 'how to' guide and is for entertainment purposes only. I hope you enjoy the content and find it helpful for your own projects. Please feel free to watch, like, comment and share what you see.

5.7 V8 Dodge Ram 1500 Thermostat Change
In today’s video, Kayne is installing a new thermostat in his 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 litre V8 fitted. He is getting an engine management light show up on the dashboard and is being given codes P0128 and P2098, which means that the engine is running well below normal operating temperature.
Previously, we have fitted a lot of parts at the front end, including aux drive belt, tensioner, AC compressor and a number of other things. The only thing remaining in the cooling system that hasn’t been touched is the thermostat, so that’s where we thing the problem lies. The rest of the system is fresh and new, so this is the most likely weak point in the system.

C1/107/Aygo - Fitting dynamic side repeaters
Просмотров 346Месяц назад
In today’s video, I’m installing some dynamic side repeaters onto #projectc1. It’s something that’s been on the cards for a while now, I just never got round to it. I bought these from ebay for just under £10, but honestly, the quality isn’t that great, so consider finding them somewhere else. I guess you get what you pay for! The procedure to change these is fairly simple. Isolate the electric...
Installing custom indicator mirror caps
Просмотров 638Месяц назад
In today’s video, I’m fitting some indicator mirror caps, courtesy of Tony Murton from Little Buggers Club. According to Tony, #projectc1 is unique at the time of writing because no other sets exist, these are a prototype pair. They are a modified pair of OEM spec mirror caps that have had a dynamic LED strip installed. In order to install these, the existing mirror housings need some major sur...
Volvo V40 Rear Brake Calliper Rebuild
Просмотров 1902 месяца назад
In today’s video, I’m rebuilding the rear nearside brake calliper that came off my Volvo V40 in a previous video - ruclips.net/video/2F33EPYxkCY/видео.html I had to replace it initially because when I changed the front brake pads, something didn’t feel quite right, so I went round the vehicle to check the hoses and callipers. That’s when I found that the nearside rear calliper was leaking. In o...
C1/107/Aygo Bilstein shocks & Apex lowering springs
Просмотров 8112 месяца назад
In today’s video, I’m installing Bilstein shocks and Apex lowering springs on to #projectc1. I’m doing this for two reasons; improved handling and also because the existing shocks are well and truly knackered! The rear shocks have collapsed completely and the front ones are weeping oil and were picked up on last year’s MOT. Its MOT time again very soon, so it’s time to get the done. I got these...
Mk2 Citroen C1 brake calliper change
Просмотров 3973 месяца назад
In today’s video, I’m changing the front left (nearside) brake calliper because I am an idiot. In the last video on #projectbluebean, I changed the driver’s side brake disc and pads on camera successfully, but did the passenger side off camera. In doing so, I split the seal on the piston. I could have ordered a £14 calliper rebuild kit, but the car was needed early the following morning, so I h...
Mk 2 Citroen C1 - Front brake discs and pads change
Просмотров 7433 месяца назад
In today’s video, I’m changing the brake discs and pads on a 2016 (Mk2) Citroen C1. It’s been three years since I last did this. It was in fact supposed to be the first ever video for this channel, but the videography was poor, so I didn’t end up making that video, but here we are! I’ve gotten myself a pair of brake discs and set of brake pads from Borg & Beck. I’ve used their products extensiv...
Renault Clio Mk3 lower suspension arm & track rod end change
Просмотров 7804 месяца назад
In today’s video, Kayne and I are changing the track rod end and lower suspension arm on a Mk 3 (2009) Renault Clio. This car used to belong to me and I’m not going to lie to you, I hate this car! I used to call it Christine because it used to try to kill me on a regular basis. Anyway, now it belongs to my mum (I told her emphatically not to take this money pit on!) and since it’s been in her o...
L322 Range Rover air suspension desiccant change kit from X8R

In today’s video, Kayne and I are changing the desiccant pack on his L322 Range Rover from 2008 because the air suspension is throwing up a warning on the dash saying that the vehicle is lifting slowly. After much reading of forums etc, we have decided that its because there is moisture in the system. The desiccant pack has most likely never been changed, so it’s a good place to start. We bough...
Volvo V40 brake calliper replacement
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In today’s video, I’m changing the rear left brake calliper. The OEM calliper has sprung a leak and as this is my daily driver, I’ve got to get it back on the road pronto. In order to achieve this, I’ve ordered a Febi Bilstein brake calliper to be a direct replacement for the OEM Volvo one. Bilstein is a name that I know and trust, so I’m happy to fit it as a temporary replacement, while the re...
Citroen C1 rear wiper delete
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In today’s video, Liz is removing the rear wiper from her Mk 2 Citroen C1. In order to do this, you’ll need a de-wiper bung kit (whichever one you prefer), a 10mm socket and a 13mm spanner. The reason this is being done is purely for aesthetic reasons. The wiper is rarely used anyway and by removing it, the back of the car looks much cleaner and sleeker in order to improve the look of the car. ...
Fitting an oil cooler to Project C1
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In today’s video, I’m installing an oil cooler onto Project C1. This is a preparatory job for the eventual turbo conversion job because as everyone knows, turbos produce heat and heat breaks down engine oil. I bought an oil filter sandwich plate from AliExpress and has an M20 x 1.5 and a ¾ - 16 UNF filter adapter in the box. It’s made from billet aluminium and has 2x AN-10 and 2x AN-4 outputs. ...

I've just managed to change this part so many thanks for this video! I had this P0494 error appearing on and off my C1 for over a year and hopefully replacing this part clears this issue. Also for less experienced people like myself, to pull the connectors out, you first have to push the wider bottom part of the orange "latch" down (i.e. away from the connector). This then gives you space to push the inside top part of the connector/clip up, which holds it onto the controller, and pull the connector out. I used a flat head screwdriver for both of these steps. 2:49 and 2:08, respectively, are probably the best still pictures for reference
I’m glad the video helped! Good of you to give additional advice to everyone else too, thank you 👏🏻
How do I know the deference btw the red wires that if the defrost switch and the AC switch.? Mine was strip and I can't tell the difference
I’m not sure about that, I don’t have AC, only rear demister.
It seems like they are moving back to front (but hard to see on video). Take them out en rotatie 180° 😉
Took them out and threw them in the bin cause they’re far too tacky for even my taste 😅
Que guapo queda 👍👍👍👍
Muy bien 👍 👏 😌
same spot on my mk2, not to that severe extent though.
I wish the mk2 had an optional sporty spoiler, got big dreams for my little sh""box haha. just watched your front splitter video on your mk1, tempting with the mk2.
Hi mate, I heard there is some sort of oil valve thing on the mk1, that will give the appearance of "burning oil" always requiring to top the engine oil up, my mk2 seems to drink through engine oil, i was originally on 0W30 but due to the issue and at the time, last year the weather was pretty hot, so i presumed better to try 5W30 since that is an option in the manual. same issue, i cant find anywhere that states the mk2 has this valve thing, so, since you have the mk1 and your wife has the mk2, maybe you might know? appreciate any response, cheers.
It’s got a PCV valve, I’m just not sure where. I haven’t done that much work on the Mk2 tbh. Besides, it’s a 1.2, most people have the 1.0.
Hi mate, great vid, I have the C1 mk2 flair puretech 1.2, gonna be installing a viofo A119 V3 when it arrives, Hoping that same VCC fuse spot will work for me, with the viofo hardwire kit it gives options for not letting the battery go below a certain voltage, your voltage seems a bit low in my opinion but im not an electrician so heres to hoping mines all normal. for comparison i had to wire vcc to my kenwood head unit i fitted and mine was showing (from my memory), something like 14.15V to 14.25V
Oh i dont know if this will help anyone, but i fixed a god awful leak in my boot, turns out for some reason, i had no seal around my centre brake light, so i slapped some silo sealant made for caravans around it and put it back in, worked a treat, however, its a b......ard to get out, I had to use a handful of business cards i took from the local garage to use as a little tool to unhook the push in pins. the water would come through the none sealed centre brake light, when youd open the boot or if there was enough water inside that little area behind the light, it would leak through the wiring rubber bung thing that connects to the roof inside the car itself and then run down the sides of the roof and behind the plastic panels each side in the boot. thank god for the heat wave we had to help dry any water remaining inside after i sealed it up.
I hear good things about Viofo. This camera install hasn’t affected the battery in any way. Yes, water in the spoiler is a common problem on these Mk2 cars. We did a video about it on the channel a while back.
@@DABDIY pretty sure it was your video i saw mentioning about it but i think you fixed it on your mk1, i remembered it after i typed it lol, thanks for the reply.
Hi there, when trying to remove the front bolt that holds the throttle body I think it snapped. It just keeps spinning but won’t come out. Do you think there’s anything I can do?
The threaded insert has most likely come loose from inside the intake. Worst case scenario, you’ll need a new intake. Best case, see if you can hold it with a pair of pliers as you undo the bolt
The C1’s are brilliant wee cars
This video is actually extriemly helpfull and therapeutic to watch..guess I'm not not free tomorrow after all as I now want to do this..at 00.41am..😂..thanks a bunch dude👍 Question..what is the pcv used for? What's its job?
I’m glad you like the video! The PCV valve, positive crankcase ventilation valve, is responsible for venting the positive pressure generated within the engine when combustion takes place. It contains oil vapour and other such things like that in the expelled gasses, which are then fed back into the air intake for emissions purposes. I did a video on cleaning the Throttle Body Control Valve too. It’s in the Project C1 playlist.
Huge fan of the C1 content, I’m a Pug 107 owner (first car) and have been modding / upgrading bits n bobs of it over the last year. Just wondering if a) the front speakers have stood the test of time and if they still sound as good? B) what model of pioneers did you use for the rear speakers? Cheers, George
Hi George Glad you like the content! The speakers sound as good as the first day they were installed, they’ve held up really well. Since this video, I’ve installed an under seat subwoofer under the passenger seat and I’ve got some door cards with speakers in them, video about that to come soon. I’m not sure which model number of speakers I used in the rear, I just know they were the 6.5” speakers, they’re the same as I’ll be installing in the door cards. Sorry I couldn’t be any further help. If you’re on Instagram, follow me @dabdiy and I’ll post on there soon which speakers I’ll be using for the door cards.
Why the hell for the price would you pay to clean an air filter.. Stick a new one on man. While your at it, clean your engine bay.
K&N are reusable performance air filters. Cleaning them is one of their main selling points! As for the engine bay… no.
After cleaning an old filter they will never be regarded as performance again. Just selling jargon. As for the engine bay, apart from meat, there is now't better then a clean engine area. Maybe a top heavy woman comes close. 😂😂
@Bakerboy69 I can’t agree with you there. The K&N filters are more or less just as effective after a cleaning than they are from the factory, as long as you follow the instructions in the kit. As for the engine bay, it’ll be a little difficult to clean it, even if I saw any merit in doing so, because the car was scrapped after an accident a couple of years ago.
Probably caused by all that dirt from the engine bay getting into that old used air filter....
Noticed mine aren’t lighting up anymore either with the little orange light. Could this be causing a drain on my battery cause it keeps dying. Checked all the fuses and are all good. Changed alternator and the battery twice but car still seems to drain. Ground connections seem fine so can’t get my head around why the battery keeps dying
You have a parasitic drain somewhere. The best thing to do would be to go to an auto electrician for this because they’re notoriously hard to find, however if you have the facility, see if there is any voltage drop across every fuse while everything is turned off. Also, try removing the bulbs you installed and see if that stops the drain.
At 2.28..did you use anything to squeeze them together because I am squeezing with all strength God gave me and this just will not pop out
I used two screw drivers to push them together and when it was loose, I used one of them behind the fitting to prize it out. Fiddly, but it does work.
Nice work, very useful
You should slow down video give us a chance to see in stages. Cheers
You can slow the video down in your play options
Thanks man for that video, where did you get that knob ? Mine too is loose.
I got it from eBay. The link I used isn’t active anymore, but it’s just a generic gear knob, I’m sure there will be similar available on eBay and Amazon.
In fact, here’s an Amazon link to it amzn.to/3VHMCmc
@@DABDIY the thing is I have a toyota aygo vip edition. Under the gear knob, it is just a white plastic. I hope it will not be a pain to change.
@greezly3348 it’s fairly easy to change
@@DABDIY Thanks a lot, I hope it will fit, maybe that plastic under the gear knob I can remove it I dont know I will try. All the cars looks like yours, a steel thing where you can screw something, not on my car.
Hello, my switch selector for the car fan is not working properly. Do you know how to unplug this selector, on your video thats the white thing that gives power to the bulbs? I tried to unplug but it doesnt come. Thanks !
It is fiddly to unplug, keep at it!
@@DABDIY it was such a pain to take it off. It was melt inside. I replaced it, everything is working. Its sad because I changed the blower motor and resistance for nothing. Thanks man. It was easy to unplug it on another car to put it on mine.
At least you can be assured that you’ve got a fresh blower motor and resistor pack and you won’t have that problem again
Bonjour, les plaquettes ne sont pas tres usées? tu as combien de KM
About 60,000 miles
Nice work mate, just looked at Mrs's C1, exactly the same problem. Thank you x
What is the red wire off the positive on the battery for please? Mines snapped 😢
That is the power supply for my daytime running lights. Mine are after market, that red wire is not part of the OEM wiring loom.
Got an p0011 error today 2013 aygo what can be the cause
Copied from a quick Google search. P0011 refers to a fault in the variable valve timing (VVT) system. It indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected that the camshaft timing in cylinder bank 1 is more advanced than it is supposed to be.
That looks sooooo much clearer !!
I thought so too. Goes with the red and black theme of the car too.
I have no idea why my light isn't working. I bought a new one from Ebay...not just the bulb but the whole section...still no joy. Could there be an issue with my fuses?
Fuse would definitely be where I’d start my fault diagnosis.
@@DABDIY thanks mate

Subd love the detail you literally show everything as I have bought these same arches for cit ds3 so you have helped massively cheers
I’m glad the video helped you! I did an exhaust on a DS3 not long back, but didn’t get chance to record it. Great car though, I’d have one.
Are you able to do this for me at cost ? Where are you located ?
No, sorry. I’m not a business and as such, I’m not insured to work on anyone else’s car.
How do you locate the steering wheel control plug
I don’t have an answer for you there, I’m sorry. Took a few days of searching for it on the internet myself, but this isn’t actually my truck, I have no regular access to it. Sorry I couldn’t help you.
How do you locate the steering control plug
Thank you this video proved very successful my hubby fixed the stalk after obviously I found your video Thanks once again
I’m glad the video helped!
Does this car have a fuel filter?
To my knowledge, it’s part of the in-tank unit and isn’t serviceable, just like the Mk1s.
@@DABDIY Thank you a lot! I got 108 model and was puzzled why no one says anything about the fuel filter in different videos on RUclips
I cant see it on your But my daughters 107 has an extra part that I cant see on yours. Its a plastic piece which fit Infront of the door at the back end of the arch. About 2 foot long. Do you know if what this is?
That’s a weather seal. It stops road grime getting into the door jamb. Lucky you have yours, they rotted away and were binned for the most part.
Please, where i can buy this spare idle valve?
I would imagine either from a breaker or a main dealer
Well explained again;!
Thank you
Thanks got my clean too, daihatsu cuore 2009
Have you compression tested the new one?
Before I picked it up. I even saw it running too.
What readings did you get if you don’t mind me asking? And was that the reason for change on the old one?
@fodey_3134 I can’t remember the readings tbh, it’s been a while since I tested it. I lost compression in two of the three cylinders in the old engine.
Exactly what happened to my old one.. so bought a new one! But wasn’t sure of ‘good’ pressure readings
@fodey_3134 I’ve had a read in the technical manual and I believe the correct readings are: Minimum pressure: 11 bar Normal pressure: 14.5 bar Difference between cylinders: 1.5 bar or less
is this still technically road legal? 👍🏽
Absolutely! Not all vehicles have a rear wiper fitted by design.
Jeg har lige fået dem på min Toyota Aygo mk2 de er for fede
jeg er glad for du kan lide dem
Good info!!
Make sure to use some sealant. I've had these without sealant before and they gave out after a few rainy days.
Good idea, I hadn’t thought of that! I’ve actually removed them now and gone back to OEM because they look a little bit too cheap and tacky for my liking. Now that I’ve got the mirror cap side repeaters, I’m tempted to weld up the side repeater aperture and make it like they were never there. Still road legal too.
Did they have km/hours customize dashboard?
I’m not sure about that. Drop them a message and ask, I’m sure they’d be able to accommodate your design choice.
@@DABDIYThanks, I will ask them. Very helpful video btw, I will try it one day when i have time for it.
@waxupp38 I’m sure they’ll be able to do something to help you out. Glad you liked the video too 🤙🏻
Well explained!!
Thank you!
Is that legal in Spain?
I don’t know, I’m not Spanish.
Very good video. Just curious as to why you didn't fill the oil filter and hosing with oil?
Because of gravity. Once you go to install it, it’ll pour out of the housing and cover the engine bay in oil.
😢@@DABDIYI have a lot of the best time
YES!
Just make sure the screw doesn't fall. Mine fell and it was gone. No idea, it fell down and couldn't be found anymore. Annoying.
