My hard mode is being underleveled... just like the old days.

As someone who enjoyed Fire Emblem: Three Houses (mostly for the grid-based battle system), but normally doesn't care for anime-style RPGs, should I give this one a go?

I saw everything but the giant head in the sky coming. They also show a lot of everything early on in trailers and such which might have helped make everything guessable. Music is weird but great as you said. Am I wrong that in persona 5 if you overleveled the characters you could kill them in the overworld? the overworld combat seems the same except you have to actually swing and fight more.

I think I may be alone in this, but what if Cloud, while certainly more than a bit mentally off, is not 100% gone and that rift in the sky is a hint at something else? I feel like the rift and the sudden repair of the plane’s wings are a little suspect (were they just carrying spare plane wings? If so, why not repair it sooner?)

It's because it's what's called hybrid-combat. This style of combat is to supposedly "speed things up" Trails through Daybreak also did it.

I really wish you didnt have to keep your starter in the party until you finish their story. I love having everyone be equal levels and eventually your starter is like 50 while some people are 32 or so

Bravo, loved these vids. I’ve gotten to about the same places you have in terms of theories. Though I would say Aerith is coming back in the terrier timeline - the flowers are just a mallet over our heads in this regard (I think Zack returned there too). Cloud does seem split between worlds, JUST like the imagery in the OG lifestream scene. He also seems to accept that Aerith is…”quasi” dead (?) I figure if he’s seeing Jenova images or being delusional, she’d hop on the plane with him. But he accepts she has to stay there. The tear in the sky…looks a lot like the tears inside the black materia to me. Are the alternate worlds contained inside it? And those gaps in the credits are just there to tease everyone. If they showed them it would “confirm” they happened. This leaves open the possibility that Cloud just imagined all of it.

I do agree with you on the UI going a bit overboard in the sense that everything is moving even the borders on the dialog boxes have little animations. Other than that I loved it, the setting has me real curious to explore the world. Sure there's that one character that you kinda know what's gonna happen with as soon as you meet him but the plot looks interesting.

I know you said about predictable but the giant monster threat is so interesting and sounds like nier lmao

It is woke in a lot of ways though, you can't even deny that. This whole narrative of how "our lives are decided at birth", how these abominations of creatures are called humans, and how these "minorities" are treated so poorly. I mean come on now...

Demo is trash way too fucking easy embarrassingly easy. Lol…. It even puts lightbulbs in your skill list to let you know what moves to use and when. 😂

It is eye-wash for some of the more ugly games that have presented themselves lately. I am looking forward to this one... after Metaphore... sometime in November... probably. Tty about it then, maybe.

I played the demo and will be playing the full game. I must say, though, it’s a weird concept to me having a game with named characters and a story where you’re better off not becoming attached to any specific character and just treating them like units, like interchangeable NPCs

As a turn-based RPG fan I am really looking forward to this! Though, given my 70-year-old reflexes, I think I'll be playing on the easiest mode! I've never liked difficulty for the sake of difficulty, I want the story first and foremost. Have a great day yourself, too! (It's supposed to be drier over the weekend, thank goodness. Congrats, I thoroughly enjoyed your breakdowns. I didn't think it possible but you brought up so many little points I never heard or though of before. About the "promise" thing - I can't really see it being a translation error. I'm gonna stick out my neck and say Square Enix has one of if not THE most thorough localisation process in the industry. The line in Remake was "wrong" because the translator couldn't have known ahead of time. This one is right on the nose, juxtaposed directly with the song and the text line. And I've just checked, the German says "promise" too. I can't see the reasoning yet but I think it's on purpose.

200m just to develop it. At 2M+ copies sold it would not pay for the development costs alone, not even counting marketing. Enix does not have too high expectations for the time/money they spent on it, it's also ff7 which is the golden goose for them. Part 3 will likely cost more to make due to openworld+highwind+submarine, yet it will see another huge drop-off in sales due to it being a sequel to a sequel, of which many people haven't even finished the 2nd game.

Awesome job on the finale! Tough work I'm sure, but greatly appreciated. Honestly Rebirths hardest part was creating the physical world of FF7, but story wise its just a small part. I have a feeling part 3 is going to absolutely massive, which means many many more parts from you good sir. I wanted to come back to defend Zack’s combat. Zack is a freaking monster in combat and once you get his rhythm going, he’s a one man show. It sucks that the game don’t give you enough time with him but I learned how to unlock his potential when completing his hard mode combat sim with cloud

I literally watch your videos all day cuz I wfh on my laptop. So hey the purple and black and green sweets being symbolic of the corrupted ls is such a good one! I would have never caught that I was so distracted by the cuteness of Cloud and Aerith’s last date together. So I’m really happy your saying you don’t think Cloud is imagining he saved Aerith bc basically I feel the same way as you and came to the same conclusion. But a lot of other channels are saying Cloud is delusional and pretended he saved Aerith and they played the OG and know the story better then me so I started thinking they’re probably the ones who really know what’s going on. But yeah at the end of the game I thought that is the real Aerith in spirit form and I saved her. I really hope that’s what happened. I do understand that chances are she’s in a pocket world Cloud made and it will disappear. So she will be taken from us eventually but I really want it to be true that Cloud attempted and technically succeeded in saving her. I saw this Reddit post on theorizing the ending and one thing they said in it was that they think Clouds spirit ripped from his body in that moment and saved Aerith (spiritually) and also that the Cloud Zach is lugging around in the terrier timeline is Clouds broken soul. Not entirely sure how that fits but I liked it. Another thing was I noticed Cloud is wearing a uniform with two black shoulder pads at the end of Crisis Core and in the terrier timeline. I was wondering how come his out fit changes to the one shoulder pad blue uniform?

Great job with this chapter breakdown series, really enjoyed it! Some interesting thoughts

Yeah, the series of criticisms you talked about are unbelievably weird to me too. In chapter 8, I started working my way through minigame and side-quest completion. I really enjoyed it, but I was ready for a short break after completing most of the things available to me. I came back after a few weeks, did some meaty story stuff, and most of the remaining side content at the end of chapter 12. Again, I came back a few weeks later and did the rest of my side activities in chapter 13, then checked out for a few months to ocassionally practice combat while leveling my characters to 70 (for max Dynamic difficulty) and materia. Finally, after that longer break, I was feeling refreshed and stoked to plow through the endgame. I'm in my hard mode playthrough now, and I'm still having a blast.

My notes/feedback @ 11:21 I interpreted the Stall Owner feeling more chipper at the sight of this couple selecting jewelry; act of kindness or closeness. He might be missing folks acting in a loving or caring matter, it’s the near end of the world so my guess is not all the patrons who shop are in a good mood. Aerith in particular really pushes this idea she's enjoying herself so I’m assuming this NPC is drawn toward that. @33:59 I interpreted this scene as a future outcome. It’s that trope, if I show you your future you’ll may try to escape it but it occurs anyway.. much like Anakin Skywalker and his dream in the Star Wars film prequels. I might be wrong, like your idea it’s a new world, that’s a good possibility. @ 47:50 I agree 100%, Cloud sees simultaneously the world where he saved Aerith and the world where Aerith meet her fate like in the original 1997 game.

I took a different approach to everything sort of “going wrong” in Aerith’s dream world. I took it as a significance of their relationship, or lack there of. That their relationship as it stands is not a good fit. They need more time, but had fun for what it is. And the fact that the over looming sky is showing us it’s coming to an end, and what their relationship fate is meant to be. They’ve served their purposes in each other’s lives, but nothing more.
