Good evening Cheryl! Would you believe the author of Among the Grey Gums was at my local library last month speaking and signing her books. Oh I so wish I had gone now. My library is only 5 minutes away! However, she is local to me, so maybe I will get another opportunity! I also have All Among the Barley sitting next to me, amidst ** ahem ** twenty other books 😂 - two coincidences though, that's amazing!

Actually, a second thought Cheryl, you said some of the streets still exist today from the Among the Grey Gums, I can maybe go investigate and get some photos for you! (If I can find them of course) Would you prefer if I sent you a personal email?

@kelbell1987! Hello, Good Morning! What a gorgeous day it is here today. Thick frost, but blue sky and the sun is shining. Ok, Spooky, is how I would describe that 'coincidence', Kelbell!! Weird and spooky!🙃🙂 Among the Grey Gums is a lovely easy read with a little bit of everything; history, love story, mystery, 'edge of the seat' drama and a nice bit of atmosphere. I love that it is Australian too! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It would be super to speak to the author.....'stalk'/track her down, Kelbell and let us know what you discover. We need to know her thoughts and processes of writing her latest novel. I will leave that in your capable hands!😁 'Among all the barley' is a wonderful read, with all emotions discovered within, along with a bit of historical content and context. This is one of my all time favourites (aside from the classics), along with 'A month in the Country', 'Cider with Rosie', 'The Offing', to name just a few. I will be interested to know what you think of it, once you are able to read it (the TBR piles are a disaster around here and I love every one of them!😇☺). Just about to read your second comment.....Hang on....will respond to it...

Good Morning @vintagesue! Miss Read's books are the ultimate comfort read, I believe. There are a collection of books to be kept and re-read whenever there is uncertainty or a need to 'bunker down', particularly during Winter. Sylvia Fenton's two nature/memoir books should definitely be on people's bookshelves, I think and I aim to poke and prod until I see them back in publication (stay tuned). So pleased that you enjoy the reviews/recommendations. Please do let us know if you have any particular suggestions or ideas that you would like to see implemented in the channel. @vintagesue! Good Morning! I have read your lovely comment and be rest assured, I am taking your suggestions on board! Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know what you think or suggest. It is greatly appreciated. We need feedback to give viewers what they want/like/appreciate (within reason, of course). These are ideas (and more) that we have been toying with lately. There is so much that we want to present to viewers, but we understand that we need to do so whilst keeping the core value (books) in sight. We are negotiating with ourselves on how best to present your suggestions and our ideas, with individuality. The ideas are flowing, it is just a matter of time, I think. We have begun the initiative of cleaning and stocking any street library we come across in our travels as part of 'giving back' to communities that we visit and film and we are filming and promoting pet friendly historic accommodation that we use whilst filming......but we do have other ideas to expand on this, again, time and careful planning is imperative to our ideas becoming reality. We hope you enjoy these ideas/videos, but we understand that we need, and have other aspects of life, as you suggest, that are of interest to viewers. Leave it with us, give us time and hopefully, you will be happy with the result! Thank you again, for your wonderful comment and suggestions. We truly appreciate it. More importantly, we are chuffed that you watch and enjoy the channel thus far. Happy reading and safe travels Cheryl (ABT)

@craigquinn7887. Welcome to the channel! My understanding is that Charlton did not experience flooding in the town in 2022 to the extent that it has in the past, due to the implementation of the levees. I believe the street and one house was flooded and a few of the main street businesses but not as badly as it has in previous years. Of course, reporting that I have researched may be wrong, so I stand to be corrected. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

@ around 36 minutes, I’ve been away for some time but either the bakery or the winery cellar buildings for a time back in the 1950’s operated as a knitting mill producing woollen fabrics ; it was known as Cleckheaton from my distant memory.

Re. the hotels ; in the older days Heathcote was reputed to have had the highest alcohol consumption per head in Victoria. Mainly due to wood cutters , though shearer’s played a part as well. I’m 78 and when I was young there was not a wine grape growing in the region though there once were plenty. The phylloxera wiped them all out and they didn’t re-appear until around the late 1960’s.

In measuring the Main Street it is worth remembering that Heathcote adjoins what used to be known as South Heathcote which is just over the hill to the south of the town on the Northern Highway. Whether that part of the “Main” street counts in distance I am not sure. (South Heathcote used to have a bit of it’s own identity even with it’s own football club).

@davidmartin1015. Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, a few of these towns do tend to morph into South or West, East or North provinces, so I am not sure exactly where the main street was measured in order to proclaim it the 'longest' main street and I cannot find reference to it, sadly. Nevertheless, to the average eye, it appears long to travel along (I believe 1.2 km??). Happy reading and safe travels ABT

Good Morning Jacqueline! Ohhh I am so pleased that you enjoyed Linton. It is a lovely, albeit, small town. St Peter's is possibly my favourite building so far in our travels and the location on which it stands is truly stunning and peaceful. Cemeteries are always fascinating to me as they are full of history. I find myself wondering who the people were, wondering what they did in their life and who mourned them. They touch my heart to be honest. Hope to 'see' you next video Cheers Cheryl (ABT)

apoetreadstowrite. This cottage is outstanding. Although small, which I prefer to term as 'cosy and romantic', it was an absolute delight. Immaculate with all the lovely, necessary details to enjoy time away. The little sunroom area at the rear of the cottage, was just the right space to place the bed for our two boys and the garden was secure and the right size to feel secure, leaving the dogs to eat and snoot around. AND, it is only a minute's walk (at most) to the town's main street/centre. We stayed two nights but we will definitely return, likely for a good holiday of a week or more. We hope you and your boy, enjoy it as much as we did. Cheryl (ABT)

Good Morning Kelly, I will be interested to know what you think of MFS if you do read it. Please do let me know. A library borrow is definitely the best option and then if you do enjoy it, you could always buy it then. Having a small kitchen does tend to make baking and cooking an issue. Space is definitely required although these vegetable dishes are easy and do not require much space. I have recommended the occasional cookbook, and try to, usually at least once a month.
