Unleash The Power: Your Ultimate Guide To Purchasing A PA Sound System For Beginners
#homestudio #livemusic #soundsystem
If you are just starting out, buying your first PA Sound System can be a bit of a gamble. Which powered speakers should you buy? How much power do you need? How many channels do you need in a mixer? What should you be looking for in a mixer? Should you purchase online or in a local music store?
It's easy to get "sold" something that doesn't meet your needs by a local music store trying to move products and even easier to waste your budget on the wrong things.
This video breaks down all of the considerations you need to think about when buying or building out your first PA.

    Man, for the price, I can get a custom desk from a local hi-end furniture maker using local hardwoods for just a touch more in a fraction of the time. Time is money, and it’s not refundable. Six months for a commercial, non-custom furniture product is absolutely ridiculous. They aren’t ready for prime time. Scale up their labor and then I’ll consider them.

    • @justinbrogdon
      @justinbrogdon 23 дня назад

      Hey Chris, that is going to vary based on what interface you are using. I am runnning an Apollo X16 which only has DB25 outs so I run a DB to 1/4" TRS snake from the Apollo interface to the P16 interface. From there, cat 5 from the interface to the P16 monitor mixers. Hope that helps. Cheers!

    Hi Justin, thanks for your interesting tutorial. I have a recording studio now set up with an Apollo x8p, a Focustrite Scarlett Octo Pre connected to it via ADAT, and for monitors I've got several P16. In order to get the signals of both sound cards to monitors I've got a Behringer XR 18. I've connected channels 1-8 out from Apollo to channels in 1-8 from Behringer and channels 1-8 out from Octopre to channels in 9-16 from Behringer. Now during recording I'm trying to route the channels of the Apollo and Octopre via Behringer to the P16 (via a Behringer P16-D connected to Ultranet). I thought that assigning in the Apollo Console the desired Output of the affected channel (ie. Line 3 or Adat 2) It would go to the respective Behringer Input (in this case Ch 3 or Ch 10 in the example). But in it doesn't work that automatically, sometimes displaced. On the other hand the only way to hear the DAW in the P16 is assigning it to Line1 and/or Line2, otherwise the DAW doesn't sound. I know what I'm telling is quite complex, but I'm near to get crazy because I'm not able to understand the logics behind the Apollo Console software. And besides the outputs in the console channels itself, there is the I/O Matrix. How do both interact ? If you give me some clue to understand it I would be quite grateful. Thanks in advance Justine

    • @justinbrogdon
      @justinbrogdon 25 дней назад

      Hey Carlos, sorry for the delayed reply. That is a quite complex setup, nt sure if I'll be of any assistance. You should be able to assign your outputs in UAD Console using your cue outputs and flex routing using the process I explained inn the video, but I'm not sure about the OCTO or how the XR18 comes into play with the setup. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck! Cheers!

    Yes, the QSC K10.2 is an excellent sounding speaker. Although very fragile, as all powered speakers are, it packs a solid wollup for it's compact size and weight. It's sound is clear with pristine highs. And it's packed with features. Based on all this, these would be worth their steep price. But there is a problem with the whole K.2 line. And it is a bad problem. For the live musician, it is a deal breaker. I've owned two for 2-1/2 years. I used them for my 3 piece classic rock cover band. When they work, they are awesome. The problem? It's not hard to find. Do any type of search on problems with the K.2 series. You will find ongoing references to code 4 speaker shutdowns. After dialing them in at rehearsals, we were all excited to hear them at our first gig 2-1/2 years ago. I turned them on for pre-show check. Without a single note being played, they both went immediately into code 4 shutdown with a message indicating possible speaker damage. Then I had to follow screen directions to work through a test process to turn them back on. There was no speaker damage. There seems to be a problem somewhere in a series of firmware upgrades that causes this protective shutdown when no problem exists at all that warrants shutdown. Since that beginning, 1 or both speakers have shutdown, once or more, mid show, in about 60% of our gigs. The last straw was 6 months ago when the stage left unit shutdown 9 times and the other speaker shut down twice. That was during a 3 hour show. I've pursued many directions trying to figure out the cause and resolve the issue. We kept our faith in the product up to that night, believing we'd find the solution. We haven't. Now I use a pair of Yamaha C112V passive speakers that I've had for years and can trust. I power them with a QSC GX5. It is a time tested and reliable piece of gear. My 2 units are still under warranty. I'm currently working with tech support to either fix the problem or replace with other models. I want to use them for solo acoustic gigs if I can solve this issue. I will never trust any K.2 series speaker for a band gig again.

    Yeah, I’m going to mortgage a Gibson Les Paul I think did nice guitars, but come on Gibson you’re so fucking greedy. I got a Strat 700 bucks it’s beautiful I got a ESP telecast that grows like less Paul it’s gonna humbucking pick up in the neck well under $1000

      Newer strings are more critical on an acoustic guitar.

    As of this month I’ve waited a year for my desk to show up and have been given many false promises since last summer. I was told my desk was being made numerous times but never was. As of Jan I lost my patience and had the credit card company refund me the money back. It’s a real shame this happened as the desks are amazing but the company’s logistics are terrible and the overall experience for me was very negative.

      Dude that sucks so much man. Im currently trying to cancel mine as well. But beforehand i have a friend that works at vintage king. I noticed that dangerfox is sold on vk and sweetwater. Im wondering if you buy through them they will be a bit more communicative bc of the fact they probably dont want to burn their bridges with these vendors.

    every couple months. i play with a lot of attack so very new strings just sound a bit to “flimsy“ for my taste. i don’t know how else to explain it

    I've had an EV 635a for over 25 years. I don't use it a lot but when I do, it's super cool. Also, tell me how you painted that main rook. I love the monotone dark color.

    Geez. Good question. I have been contemplating that for a while now. I used to do the every 3-4 months deal. This is what I found. After~15-20 hours of play you will lose the new string sound. If they are not broken leave them. Don't bang the strings up and they will last. Unless you are a Pro leave them be. Oh, if you use good strings then they will last.
